About Miguel

The Owner and the house's name are unique and has have a lot of history behind it. The name 'Villa Marquesa' means the 'Grand Home of the Marquis' in Spanish. The Owner's grandfather was a Spanish Marquis and part of the Spanish Royalty and Nobility. Her family history in Spain goes back 750 years, to a time of chivalry, conquests and conquistadors.

We have owned had this home for years and just love it. it is our own piece of Caribbean Paradise. We have traveled the world but are always drawn back to the Florida Keys. We love the climate, the nature, the warm ocean and especially the people. The people are what makes the Keys and Key West on of the most special places on earth. Here weird and strange are 'normal' and conventionality are frowned upon!

Miguel purchased this villa in 1976

Why Miguel chose USA

Villa Marquesa was one of the first homes built on the Atlantic/ Ocean Side of Ramrod Key, in Breeze Swept Beach Estates, that's why its architecture is very distinctive and unique. The home is built on a perfect east-west / north-south axis in order to take advantage of the Tropical Caribbean Trade winds. The home is decorated in authentic Caribbean Colonial style and filled with teak and mahogany furniture which give you the feeling of staying at one of the great Caribbean Beach side Villas.

You can fish right off the dock, or just bring bread to feed them but the best fishing sites are off Little Palm Island or by boat off Bahia Honda bridge. If you want deep-sea fishing you can go to American Shoal Light House or past Looe Key Reef. You can also rent kayaks to go up and cruise the canals to see birds, iguanas, and the occasional winter manatee.

What makes this villa unique

The Villa Marquesa vacation home is located on the Ocean Side of Ramrod Key, between Mile Marker mm 26 and 27.5. We call our Lower Keys Islands, the windy keys due to their favorable geographical position, which allows the flow of tropical trade winds to blow in all directions, delivering its cooling breezes and also reducing mosquito. Luckily our average temperatures never dip below the 60's in winter and never rise above the 90's even in the hottest summers, making theses islands a true Tropical Caribbean Paradise all year around. We owe our great weather to the Caribbean Tropical Trade Winds and the Gulf Stream, a super current of warm Caribbean water that constantly bathes our islands year round. That's why you will see an abundance of Tropical plants, animals, fish and corals. The warm winter water temperatures also allows for year round snorkeling, fishing, diving , beach-going or other water-sports.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We were lucky enough to rent Villa Marquesa for two full weeks over the Christmas/New Year's holiday for a family vacation. The property is beautiful, well-maintained, and the furnishings are eclectic and lovely (think Pottery Barn at the beach). In a word, all the comforts of home and we felt at home right away. We brought our boat down and were able to launch it easily and keep it at the dock. With very easy access to the ocean we could be diving on Looe Key within an hour of leaving the dock. My daughter and I also took advantage of the kayak to paddle out to 'Picnic Island' in the middle of Newfound Harbor. All in all, Villa Marquesa was a fantastic vacation rental and Miguel was super to deal with. We are planning to rent again - just figuring out when! Thanks, Miguel, for a great experience!

Enjoy The Real Florida Keys

  • 5 of 5

Having enjoyed traveling the length of the Keys near about every one of the past 45 years, I have never really had a chance to really experience the Keys as I did from this unique property. Unlike the typical hotel environment, this cozy villa made me feel at home. The decor is "island time", fully equipped and the perfect distance from great beaches, one-of-a-kind restaurants and "watering holes", and the inimitable Key West. Take a short walk to the Looe key bar and I promise you leave with an unforgettable memory and a smile on your face! Can't wait to do this again.

Lovely Villa!

  • 5 of 5

My mother, my brother and his fiance and I stayed in lovely Villa Marquesa for 1 month. The view from the balcony was so nice to wake up to each morning. The villa had all the necessities supplied including beach towels and chairs, the villa is ideal for rest and relaxation.

The owner gave us great tips on where to shop and eat. Take his advise and go wherever he said!

We rented a boat locally this year to do some fishing, hoping to get something on the grill. Three hours later, we had caught Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Wahoo, and even a surprise Sailfish. A lifetime memory for all.

I write this review with some hesitation as I would like to keep this pearl of the keys a secret for family and friends.

Success is a vacation where everyone in the family gets what they want and come home with a smile. This is truly a very special place.

Mom also wants to know when we are going back.

Please do not sit in my favorite chair out by the dock!

Place Worth Staying

  • 5 of 5

What a great experience! The house is in an excellent location, it's clean, with more than enough space. LOTS of space actually. We got everything you need for a wonderful vacation. We spent most of the time in the sea with the paddle board ... and in the villa of course. This is really "what you see is what you get". The photos and description are spot on. The host is very attentive and helpful throughout the visit, he is a true professional. Extremely responsive and just a really nice guy! Thanks, Miguel!
