About Miranda Lake

I have been living in New Orleans since '98 and can't imagine calling another place home. I love to travel, but the best part of that is knowing I am coming back here. I work as an artist, designer, and avid gardener. I consider my home and gardens one of my best works yet...enjoy!

Miranda Lake purchased this house in 1999

Magical NOLA Sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

This property is one of the most beautiful, well curated, intimately decorated rentals I have ever stayed in. Shelley was so helpful and warm. The pictures don't even do this place justice. This is a place I will return to any time I ever come back to New Orleans! Thank you so much for a magical weekend, Shelley!

Garden District Oasis

  • 5 of 5

We stayed on Jena Street with friends for the week of the French Quarter Festival, there were 7 of us total, and this space was absolutely perfect for us. We came and went easily, parking was always available, and we also got to walk and explore the area extensively. Only a few short blocks to the St. Charles Streetcar and then a few more to Magazine Street with great food and shopping. The space is charming, lovely and comfortable inside and out, and so perfectly equipped with supplies, Miranda has thought of everything you might need to not worry about the little stuff and enjoy this amazing city. We cooked breakfasts at the house and spent most of our time in the outdoor garden sitting area. Miranda and Shelley were great and offered many suggestions for not to be missed food and music fun. We would go back in a heart beat, and I wish we were back there right now! Thank you!

Adorable & Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We used the main house area and the little apartment. It had all the amenities you would want/need eg. A water cooler (doesn't cool the water, but provides clean, fresh water to drink). You can tell the decorations were well thought out. Coming in the summer, it was great because the air conditioning worked well, and the pool is awesome. The owner (Miranda) lives on the property, but she is super nice and accommodating. She does not like crazy bachelor/ette parties, which I can understand b/c the place is very well kept. It was very easy to cab to French Quarter, etc. from here. Would definitely stay here again (if she keeps it on VRBO:)

Owner's Response: I'm so glad to hear you all had a great time, though I'm sorry to hear that the water cooler was unplugged during your stay. When plugged in, it also offers hot water for tea. I will be sure to double-check that it is plugged in for future guests. As you mentioned, bachelor and bachelorette parties are no longer groups I entertain... if people are looking for a party house, a place downtown might be a better bet. But if you are seeking a calm, chill oasis it relax in after a day or night out, then this is the place! Thanks for submitting your review and best wishes to the bride to be!

our personal oasis in NOLA!

  • 5 of 5

We came into town for a wedding and booked Miranda's place because of location and the pool. Her place is gorgeous from top to bottom. We rented both the main house and the guest house for a group of 8 and it worked out perfectly. The outdoor area was fantastic and with the sweltering heat--the pool was a life saver!

Location was perfect for visiting our friends that live off of Magazine. Not necessarily close enough to walk in the heat to shops and restaurants, but only a $6 uber ride and a really cute neighborhood. When we were there (in early June) the construction on St Charles was in full effect, but once its done I imagine it will be easy to get around!

The house itself was in fantastic condition and beautifully decorated. Plenty of space to hang out as a group, or have quiet time separately. My only complaint would be that there was no dining space big enough for our group--besides outdoors--and the mosquitoes were too much to handle for eating outside. The air conditioning in the main house is located in the master suite, and it didn't circulate well to the back bedroom, but other than that it was great. There were plenty of clean towels and toiletries at the house and our hostess was incredibly friendly and helpful. We felt right at home.

One thing to note--the pool is shared and the hours for guests only go until 5pm. If you plan on spending your evenings swimming, you may need to clear it with your hostess first!

Thanks again for having us, it was a great week and we will certainly be back!

Owner's Response: I am so glad you all enjoyed your stay! As far as the AC goes, there is central AC in the apartment and another AC unit in the master suite. During your stay, unfortunately the central AC went out and was repaired as soon as possible... sometimes these things happen, and I do apologize for any inconvenience. And it's true, there is no indoor dining area for large parties unless you set something up in the studio, which might not be everyone's cup of tea to have to move things around. As far as pool hours go, the posted hours for guests, as stated in the rental description, only go until 5. Since this is my private home, I reserve the right to have to the pool to myself in the evenings in case I am entertaining, but more often than not I am more than happy to share the evening hours with guests until dark. Definitely no swimming at night as that is simply a liability I am not willing to take on. Thanks so much for sharing your impressions of your stay and I would look forward to having you all come back anytime!

A Great Place for Family Gathering

  • 5 of 5

My extended family's annual reunion took place in New Orleans over three days. The Jena Street location was very comfortable, very well supplied with both necessities and little extras, very clean and worked well for us. The neighborhood is very accessible, and there are plenty of options for dining or taking out.

The rental was decorated very pleasantly as well. The only minor issue was there are so many items in the main living areas of the units, it's a little hard to find space to put extra luggage, equipment, toys, etc. Two or three less small furniture items would make for more comfortable space.

The owner was very responsive to all my questions prior to arrival, and very helpful while we were there as well. A rare double lot property with plenty of amenetiies in New Orleans.

Owner's Response: I am always glad to hear suggestions and feedback, and I appreciate my guests taking the time to let me know how I can make their stay more comfortable. This review confirms the sneaking suspicion I've had for some time that I need to get those fold away suitcase racks! And I've also seen some potentially handy over-the-door clothing hangers that I will look into that could help with hanging items. As it stands, each unit has 4 or more drawers for placing items in, an antique wardrobe (not the most spacious of options, but does the trick for most!) or a double sliding door closet. Over each of the washers are open shelves where luggage can be stashed, but they are hard to reach without a ladder. Under the beds or behind the living room sofa in the apartment has been a popular spot for people to store things, but I will certainly look into a better, more accessible solution.

NOLA home for you!

  • 4 of 5

Great place for our sister reunion! Miranda provides a comfortable home setting with privacy, and all the extra little things that make you feel at home. We enjoyed coffee on the patio by the pool, and gathering in living room for late night gab fests. Her home is located in quiet neighborhood, with good access to public transport. (Note: St. Charles Avenue trolley is under repair in this area, but you can use bus provided to link to trolley stop at Napoleon Avenue.)

Owner's Response: Always happy to hear my guests have had a good time! As of 6/11/14, the St. Charles streetcar line ( 4 blocks from my house) is undergoing extensive renovations that just can't be done soon enough. I would recommend that any travelers to New Orleans check the city's website www.norta.com for up to date information on what portions of the line are closed. As the guest stated, buses link functioning parts of the line together, so you can still get where you need to go.
