Family-friendly space in a great location

  • 4 of 5

Overall I'd recommend this house to anyone visiting Bar Harbor and planning on hiking. Nina was very responsive and a wonderful host, answering our questions ahead of time and during our stay. She checked in the morning of our arrival and greeted us when we arrived to show us around and make sure we were settled. She even quickly ran out to fill the stroller tires with air so we could use it! She was ready to provide local suggestions and the welcome book was full of great information for enjoying the area.

This house is perfect for someone with small children - having the washer/dryer, pack n play, high chair, stroller and hiking back pack available made our packing and stay so easy. The master bedroom is large with lovely vaulted ceilings and a ceiling fan that helps enjoying those cool Maine breezes! The second room is like an alcove off the master so perfect for small kids (but maybe not enough privacy for older ones or for two couples, although the couch downstairs can be a bed as well). The large kitchen/dining area was great for cooking and having family dinners - we went shopping and went to the Sunday farmers market and did most of our own cooking/grilling.

The location is perfect for seeing Bar Harbor - we found it very walkable to pop down to town (about 10-15 minutes) and it's also close to grocery stores. Hiking is up the street the other way and a short drive away. Parking in Acadia can be difficult mid/late morning but this house is on the bus line and while we didn't use it, hear that buses will stop to pick you up. The downside of this is that the road noise can be a bit loud at times. (our youngest though, was THRILLED every time a bus went by!)

I wish i could do a 4.5 stars because I would really highly rate this house but some picky downsides are small upkeep issues like broken chairs on the deck, some rotting wood on the deck and the PVC pipe toilet flusher, garage door that doesn't open well.

But overall, highly recommend this great house in a great location with a great host!

Comfortable, convenient, spacious house for family of 4

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying 4th of July week in Bar Harbor. The house is within walking distance of shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and Bar Island (at low tide). It is within a few miles of Acadia’s main visitor center. The 2nd bedroom worked well for our 12-year-old and 10-year-old. Nina set up a badminton net in the yard, and we played almost every day. Thank you!

Comfortable home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This is a great property! It has a large kitchen, dining room and living area which is clean, modern, roomy and comfortable. The master bedroom is lovely and large. The second bedroom is off the master - we didn't use it but it would be good if you were bringing kids but awkward otherwise as you have to pass through the master to get there. The location is great - close to town and the park entrance. It is a busy road but we enjoyed the balcony nonetheless. I would highly recommend the Devon Cottage. Nina greeted us upon arrival.

A Delightful and Memorable Experiece in modern home amidst the Grandure and Beauty of Early Spring

  • 5 of 5

I have been vacationing in Acadia National Park since 1949 when my Grandparents booked a five day stay for us in honor of my 5th Birthday. Since then, for the next 69 years I've visited Acadia National Park at least every 5 years - with only an 8 year time out recouperating from the Vietnam War.

This was the first time that I decided to rent a two bedroom home rather than several hotel rooms to accomodate my Wife and Nephew for our 7 day Acadia Early Spring Vacation. So it was with a little trepidation that I entered into this new form of accomodation.

The Cottage had a fully stocked Kitchen with every conceivable device and gadget required for cooking and serving meals.

Oh, and forget bringing your quarters on the trip - the Cottage has both a Washer and Dryer plus the Detergent and Bleach etc. for every laundry need.

The 3 beds were comfortable and boasted great pillows and linens. There were even reading lights positioned for Bedtime reading.

The Furniture met any requirement a vacationer could expect and the some. For a "Rainy Evening" there was also a 60" TV and WIFI for your personal devices.

Every "Consumable" one could imagine was provide - extra toilet tissue, garbage bags, light bulbs, detergents, napkins etc.

The Interior boasted wooden flooring and stairways, custom cabinets and even a ceiling fan in the master bedroom.

The Cottage is approximately a quarter mile walk from downtown Bar Harbor (for an evening movie at "Reel Pizza Cinema") and a Acadia National Park Entrance at "Duck Brook" (for Bicycle riding on the Carriage Trails).

The Cottage also boasts a second story porch overlooking "Frenchman's Bay" where you can enjoy the view as well as deploy the Butane BBQ Grill for "Sunset Dinners".

Honestly, the only drawback the Cottage has are two flights of stairs that must be traversed. The Cottage was built over a garage where two stories were added. THe first set of stairs takes you from the ground level to the living level. The second set of stairs takes you from the living level to the sleeping bedroom level.

I'm 74 years old and my Wife is almost 65 years of age and we had no trouble negotiating the stairs. People, regardless of age that have problems with steep stairs should consider another Vacation Home rental. If you don't have a problem negotiating stairs than this Cottage is not only a value but a beautiful home away from home.

Lastly your caring owner Contact NINA is always available via TEXT.

Perfect location for Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park

  • 5 of 5

Nina's house is perfect if you want to go out in Bar Harbor in the evening (a 10 minute walk to the Village Green) and it is very close to Acadia National Park. The house has everything you could possibly need for a holiday and the beds are very comfortable. There is parking on the ground floor, which is very helpful. Some people have commented about the stairs in the house being narrow, but I didn't think they were at all narrow and had no issue with them whatsoever. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer, so no need to go home to loads of washing. Very pleasant sitting out on the balcony and the BBQ has plenty of gas and the kitchen is very well stocked. Nina lives next door if you need anything, but gives you all the privacy you need. I'd highly recommend a stay here.
