Good location - but very basic

  • 3 of 5

The cottage was in a convenient location, within walking distance of town yet not in the thick of the tourist craziness, and only a couple of minutes from an entrance to Acadia National Park. But be aware that it is very basically furnished and that the only bathroom is on a different floor from the bedroom. You will need to provide everything needed in the kitchen, including paper products and all spices, and cooking ingredients. There were pots and pans for on the stove, but we could only locate one baking pan for the oven and it was rusty. The "view" was really of the school across a rather busy road. There was a tiny peek of water in the far distance. As was stated in other reviews, the bed was comfortable, but extremely noisy! Not sure why... Also, if you want to read in the living area, you will have to rig up your own lighting arrangement. There are many small touches that would go a long way to making this a five-star rental. It just needs a bit more attention.

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

The house was at the perfect location. Outside of the village so it was quiet but very close to walk to. The entrance to Acadia was close by and the carriage roads weren't far either. Acadia is a beautiful place with some really nice hikes with plenty of views.

We had dinner out quite a few times. The Thirsty Whale was very good. We had lunch at Stewman's and it was good.

The house was just as advertised and was very clean. All paper products were supplied also all linens and towels.

There were all the kitchen tools you could want and nice pots and pans. Very spacious for 2 people.

Nina was helpful and easy to contact.

Excellent 2 bedroom rental in Bar Harbor

  • 5 of 5

Location is perfect - easy walk to town. House has everything you need. Layout is great with bedrooms on the second floor and living on the first. Garage for your car is a real benefit too. Perfect place to visit Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

A friend of mine and I stayed at this Homeaway property in November. The location is perfect. It is very close to the state park and easy access to Bar Harbor. Nina was wonderful and extremely helpful with suggestions around town. Both my friend and I don't think the pictures on the net do the property justice. It was so much nicer in person. And the beds were EXTREMELY comfortable. I highly recommend this rental.

Fantastic getaway

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay. Our hosts were accommodating and helpful with recommendations before and during our stay, and provided some needed baby equipment (pack & play, hiking backpack, stroller). The listing was accurate and location was great. I'd recommend this property without hesitation to anyone looking to explore MDI / Bar Harbor / Acadia, especially those with young children.

Great property for small family

  • 4 of 5

This cottage worked great for our first family vacation with a toddler. It has everything you need and relieves you of the worry that you have to lug around all the additional items when traveling with a child.

The location, price, and previous reviews are what drew me to this cottage originally.

1. Location: It is perfect. You get a water view, even though you are not directly on the water. It's nice just to be able to see it. Cottage is within walking distance to Bar Harbor (we enjoyed using the stroller for trips down to Bar Island and out for breakfast). It's also a quick drive to Acadia NP. We spent a great deal of time here and it was nice to just be able to go back and forth as we needed especially during nap time.

2. Price is perfect. This is not an upscale cottage, but a well-kept cottage. The owners' home is directly next to it. You get everything that you pay for and more.

3. Previous reviews: I knew our rental would have to be toddler friendly so it was great to see so many others who loved this about this particular cottage.

My other thoughts are:

- extremely easy and smooth process to rent and refund was promptly issued

- Owners are very nice and helpful. Our toddler locked us out onto the deck, we got rescued by Nina ;)

- Loved having use of the stroller, hiking backpack (especially handy when we went to Thunder Hole), and the pack n play.

- The washer had broke prior to our arrival, they communicated with us promptly and had it fixed without any inconvenience to our stay.

- Garage was great and very convenient when it was raining.

- Internet worked great.

- Has nice TV, dishwasher, stove, fridge, microwave, dishes, etc. I was just so surprised and thankful to have all of these on hand. We made many meals there. Recommend visiting Bar Harbor's farmers' market to get a lot of nice produce.

The only thing that I did not like about this place was the bed. It was comfortable, linens were clean, but it was very loud. It creaked and made so much noise when you got into it. With the room for our toddler right next to us, I was always afraid to wake him up when moving around. However, this was a minor thing. I definitely would not let that deter anyone from renting this great cottage.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and cannot wait to return.
