I enjoyed my stay. The home was fairly close to downtown Bar Harbor (close enough where I always walked) and within a 1/2 mile or so of a full service supermarket. The rooms were roomy and the unit was clean and well equipped. They had guidebooks, some of which they wrote that were especially handy and useful. They even had a full two car garage with a washing machine that my miniature car fit comfortably into (the garage, not the washing machine).
A few things to keep in mind. They warn you there are stairs. One enters through the garage and in the daytime and when only carrying a camera and the spooky house key, it isn't any big deal. However, they were a little steeper and the steps smaller than what I was used to. Also a bit tricky in the dark, although I eventually found the light switches behind the shelves in the living room by the door. Truly it wasn't a big deal, but hauling up a suitcase one needs to be careful. There is only one bathroom which was very handy when in the kitchen or downstairs, but it isn't on the same floor as the bedrooms. Bathroom was fine, clean, sized fine etc., but not close to the bed. There are two bedrooms, both upstairs, and their layout could be really ideal, or not so much, depending on your circumstances. They look like they were at one time one room where a wall was added (and a door). So for a couple with small children would probably find it ideal. However, for two couples it might lack enough privacy. One couple is going to have to walk through the bedroom of the other couple to use the "facilities" downstairs. I was by myself, so I found it to be fine. I only used the main bedroom and it was quite roomy and the bed was very comfortable. My comments are mostly quibbles. I enjoyed my stay and would certainly not hesitate to stay there again.
The cottage was in a convenient location, within walking distance of town yet not in the thick of the tourist craziness, and only a couple of minutes from an entrance to Acadia National Park. But be aware that it is very basically furnished and that the only bathroom is on a different floor from the bedroom. You will need to provide everything needed in the kitchen, including paper products and all spices, and cooking ingredients. There were pots and pans for on the stove, but we could only locate one baking pan for the oven and it was rusty. The "view" was really of the school across a rather busy road. There was a tiny peek of water in the far distance. As was stated in other reviews, the bed was comfortable, but extremely noisy! Not sure why... Also, if you want to read in the living area, you will have to rig up your own lighting arrangement. There are many small touches that would go a long way to making this a five-star rental. It just needs a bit more attention.
The house was at the perfect location. Outside of the village so it was quiet but very close to walk to. The entrance to Acadia was close by and the carriage roads weren't far either. Acadia is a beautiful place with some really nice hikes with plenty of views.
We had dinner out quite a few times. The Thirsty Whale was very good. We had lunch at Stewman's and it was good.
The house was just as advertised and was very clean. All paper products were supplied also all linens and towels.
There were all the kitchen tools you could want and nice pots and pans. Very spacious for 2 people.
Nina was helpful and easy to contact.
Location is perfect - easy walk to town. House has everything you need. Layout is great with bedrooms on the second floor and living on the first. Garage for your car is a real benefit too. Perfect place to visit Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.
A friend of mine and I stayed at this Homeaway property in November. The location is perfect. It is very close to the state park and easy access to Bar Harbor. Nina was wonderful and extremely helpful with suggestions around town. Both my friend and I don't think the pictures on the net do the property justice. It was so much nicer in person. And the beds were EXTREMELY comfortable. I highly recommend this rental.
We loved our stay. Our hosts were accommodating and helpful with recommendations before and during our stay, and provided some needed baby equipment (pack & play, hiking backpack, stroller). The listing was accurate and location was great. I'd recommend this property without hesitation to anyone looking to explore MDI / Bar Harbor / Acadia, especially those with young children.
1/2 mile easy stroll to the center of Bar Harbor's Downtown area. 3/4 mile to Acadia National Park's Loop Road. Playground across the street. Easy access to Acadia National Park hiking trails. 3 miles to Sand Beach. Shopping and restaurants within 1 mile.
Golf: Kebo Valley Golf Course is less than a half a mile away!
