Good for 2 people

  • 3 of 5

The building and the area are a bit questionable, but we had no problems. It was quiet and convenient for getting into the city - just a straight 30min tram ride. Great for sightseeing of a less known part of town.

The car park space was a huge bonus as parking is a problem.

The apartment was clean and well appointed and nicely furnished.

We were in the upstairs apartment which has a deck area. We never used it because it was very cold in SF.

The bedroom is very nice with a lot of storage space. However our two teenage sons had to sleep on a very filthy, stained fold out mattress with inadequate bedding. Having to pull it out also meant that we had to move all the furniture in the lounge every night, which was inconvenient.

When we asked for proper fitted sheets that could actually stay on the mattress, the housekeeper just brought additional flat sheets. Our further complaints were ignored.

So just to make it clear - the apartment is good for only 2 people unless the owner makes a small investment in a proper sofa bed and decent bedding.

Also, bring your own soap and shampoo - no toiletries were provided.

Kitchen has everything you need including the dishwashing liquid. There is no dishwasher. The fridge and stove are large.

All in all, it is an ok place to stay for a short break.

Don't rent this property! There's a reason that there are no photos of the outside of the building or the street. The building is run-down, dilapidated, and in need of some serious repair. When we arrived as it was getting dark, I called the property manager to ask for the code to get into the apartment. While awaiting his reply, we checked out the neighborhood, only to discover a boarded-up building across the street, next to the sleazy liquor store. Oh, and did I mention the people hanging around performing some illegal activities? We made the decision to walk away from a two month lease and lose the money we pre-paid, because in our opinion, the property was NOT as advertised. Yes, the pictures of the unit make it look nice. Our complaint is that the property manager intentionally omitted providing details about the neighborhood or pictures on the outside of the building. If I had seen what the building looked like, I never would have rented this unit. Also be aware that the owner never did call me back. I had to call him!

One more comment..........CLEAN LAUNDROMAT!!!!..........you've got to be kidding. I wouldn't wash my dog blankets in that place.

Owner's Response: Responding to G’s comments regarding their satisfaction: We are sorry for your situation. We have owned, and operated this rental unit on this site for over 10 years. In that time frame we have had hundreds of satisfied guests who enjoy this quiet place one block from the beach, thank you for this success we work hard to provide comfortable accommodations at a very reasonable rate for SF CA. This property is in a residential neighborhood of single family and multi unit buildings built in the 1930’s to1960’s. Guests who stay in our units rarely have issues and when one arises we work hard to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. Unfortunately in this instance the guest who was not happy never entered the apartment. The building is neither run down, nor dilapidated. The boarded up building referred to is a house undergoing a major renovation, adding a third floor for panoramic sweeping views of the Pacific ocean. Upgrades like this happen from time to time in the area. Urban construction can at times be difficult for those not accustomed to tight city living quarters and we appreciate whatever incidental inconvenience this might bring. The laundromat mentioned in the complaint is not operated by our location, the business is well attended , any issues with this site should be brought to the owner's attention. The “sleazy liquor store” is actually a mom and pop convenience store operated by a nice couple who live in the building. Lastly, due to privacy issues, the mapping on the site shows a close proximity to the property. We do not post pictures of the exterior for these same security reasons. Although we have never had any crime in the years that we have owned it, San Francisco is a big urban city with many great opportunities and along with that comes some of the unfortunate aspects of city life. These urban issues can be found in any of San Francisco’s extraordinary neighborhoods. Again, we are sorry for G’s experience. If you have questions regarding our feedback, please feel free to contact us and thank you for your continued patronage.

Comfortable & clean

  • 4 of 5

Loved the proximity to the beach in this quiet town. Anything we needed was pretty much within walking distance including the fantastic Beachside Cafe - delicious meals, fresh pastries and nice array of coffees, we ate there every morning. Muni was an easy block away but we either drove our car (thankful for assigned parking!) or Ubered into downtown and sights. We liked staying away from the craziness of the city but close enough to do the touristy things we came for. At the end of every day we were able to walk down our street for the sunset.

The apartment itself was very nice & clean, perfect for the 3 of us. Nice kitchen & living area. The master bed was a pleasant surprise in that it was SO comfortable, but the pull out sofa mattress was abit rough on my teenage son. (Would maybe not recommend for anyone over 125lbs.)  The place was decorated nicely and just like the photos!

The owner was a pleasure to work with, great communication and getting in/checking out was a breeze with the key lock box. We would definitely stay here again!

Visiting Family in San Francisco

  • 4 of 5

This sweet little apartment was perfect for us. It was well appointed, clean and comfortable. Parking is a little tight, but after a few tries it was fine. Particularly enjoyed morning coffee around the corner at Java Beach and a walks along the Great Highway. Looking forward to our next visit.

dirty apartment - unresponsive owner

  • 1 of 5

Bad experience with this owner. When we arrived we found the apartment in unacceptable conditions with used linens in the bed, garbage in the trash, a pile of dirty towels in the bathroom, dirty floors and toilette with signs of urine. Clearly the apartment had not been cleaned since the last guest.

I contacted immediately the owner via email and text message (as instructed by him). It took him more than 24 hours to send back a text. He said he was going to refund the cleaning fee for the inconvenience and send someone to clean the apartment the following day. This is the last time I heard from him despite my many attempts at reaching him. He did refund the cleaning fee but never sent anybody to clean the apartment. We had to take the towels and linens used by the previous guest and wash them ourselves at the laundromat across the street. Very disappointing experience.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately we did have a scheduling issue with the housekeeper for this guest. The guest initially contacted me after 11 pm on Christmas eve. I did not see his email until late Christmas day and then there was nothing we could do to accommodate. I am very sorry that this guest experienced a problem. We strive to do our best to resolve issues as quickly as possible. lesson learned, we will not schedule a guest arrival on the night of a major holiday when we are unable to respond properly.

GREAT find!

  • 4 of 5

Laid back beach town meets urban grit - welcome to San Francisco's Western Sunset district.

Cute little apartment in an unassuming building - very quiet, particularly for San Francisco, but just 1-3 blocks from great coffee and pastries, the Muni rail line, neighborhood bars, restaurants, Golden Gate park and great surfing (albeit cold water). Assigned off street parking another plus. And most importantly to me (and not something you find at all VRBO properties) - a REALLY good bed.

Bring your own soap and shampoo - owner did not supply. Same goes for a welcome basket or goodies in the fridge. But not everybody does that.

We rented surfing gear and bicycles, walked on the beach, caught movies and meals, and found it quick and easy to get to the heart of the city. First time staying on the west side for me, but it won't be the last. This place is certainly a find.
