About Carrie Matsushita & Bob Bumstead
We love the outdoors (fishing, skiing, biking, hiking, etc.) and found the perfect vacation home from which to enjoy our favorite recreational activities. We invite you to experience the Central Oregon Cascades in our cozy "home-away-from-home" cabin! Bob and Carrie
Carrie Matsushita & Bob Bumstead purchased this House in 2009
Why Carrie Matsushita & Bob Bumstead chose Crescent
The Oregon Cascades are a true gem. Easy access for snowmobiling, snowshoeing, downhill and cross-country skiing at nearby National Forest Service trails, Willamette Pass Ski Resort, Gold Lake Snow Park, Mt. Bachelor and more. Roads are plowed in the winter for safe travel; and spring, summer, and fall, are picture-perfect for visiting Central Oregon’s beautiful lakes for hiking and fishing. Oregon's 2nd highest waterfall at Salt Creek Falls is easily accessible and only 15-minutes away. The Pacific Crest Trail is only minutes away and offers hikes through beautiful forests and to nearby lakes. Crater Lake National Park and Diamond Lake are only an hour away, and there are an amazing number of beautiful lakes within a 50-mile radius. It’s the perfect getaway anytime of the year.
What makes this House unique
We often invite friends and family to spend time at the cabin. It works well for both large and small groups, as the open floor plan offers plenty of space for everyone. When it's just the two of us, the cabin serves as a cozy getaway from urban life. While at the cabin, it's always nice to return from a fun day recreating outdoors to a cozy fire, a glass of wine, and good company.

Amazing Mountain Cabin
We love staying at Bummy’s! There is room for my whole family (4 couples w/ kids)! The cabin is very well stocked, located in the most beautiful area. To top it off it’s a short drive to Willamette Pass Ski Resort for a day on the slopes. We have stayed there twice now, and hope for more trips.
In the Forest
We really enjoyed our short stay in your beautiful cabin in the woods. The drive to Crater Lake is very refreshing. Salt Creek Falls was a one of kind waterfall and it is very close. Cresent Lake is right there and is a must see. We had a wonderful lunch at the lodge on Cresent Lake sitting under huge trees watching the boats and relishing in the fresh breeze. You need to plan a WHOLE DAY for Crater Lake. WOW!!!! is just a starter. Your cabin more than met our needs and we will tell all of our friends that travel about it. Tks., TerryB....
I'm so glad you were able to experience the Central Oregon Cascades and used our cabin as the hub from which to travel to some wonderful destinations. There are many outdoor adventures to explore and all within easy access whether it's for half a day or full day. Refer a friend and we will provide a discount to your next rental with us. We hope you return in the future!
Great house for a big group, nice location
We really enjoyed our stay at Bummy's place! The owners are very responsive and understanding when trying to figure out some technical issues. The house is equipped with plenty of anything you could need, I think the only thing we were wishing for is a fire pit out back ;) Overall, perfect for a big group and everyone enjoyed the house. Great location for visiting the beaches at Crescent Lake, we enjoyed Simax and Tranquil Cove. Thanks so much! Highly recommend!
Thank you for your review! Our cabin is located in a forested setting adjacent to the Deschutes National Forest. Summer is designated with extreme fire danger,, which is why we don't have a fire pit. However, winter months are low fire danger months and we do bring out a fire pit for our guests to use. (Firewood available at the Crescent Lake Sportsman Store/gas station one mile from cabin). We hope you return to experience a winter wonderland at Bummy's Place cabin. We provide sleds and snowshoes.
I am part of four couples who rent a house every February to engage in winter sports and get re-acquainted. In 2017 we rented this property. The house looks new, and is extremely well-appointed and very well supplied with kitchen equipment and other supplies. Working with the owners was also an absolute pleasure.
The house is located near snow parks for snow shoeing and cross country skiing. Willamette Pass Ski Resort is also very close if downhill skiing/snow boarding is your preference.
Without hesitation we voted to return next February.
We enjoy opening our vacation home to guests who share our passion for Oregon's great outdoors. Many thanks for your kind words and helpful feedback. We welcome your return visit, and always feel free to let us know what we can do to make your stay more enjoyable. Carrie & Bob
Another great visit
This is the third time that my extended family has all come to stay at the cabin, but the first summer visit. We had a great time, as usual. Carrie and Bob provide countless thoughtful touches around the house that make it feel comfortable and home-like. This time, we especially liked lounging on the deck in the comfy chairs, and driving over to Davis Lake for some fishing. Thanks again for your hospitality!
The annual fishing trip
Great cabin. Couldn't ask for anything more. Bonus room is a must!
We're glad you enjoyed your stay. The bonus room apt and extra full bath seems to be ideal for multiple families/friends who would like a little more separation of space, privacy, and quiet time. Thanks for the feedback. We hope you book again in the future!
If looking for adventure, enjoy these options:
-- Take a 10-min. drive to Crescent Lake for swimming at Simax Beach (we provide beach chairs & beach towels), boating, paddle boarding or fishing (also at Odell Lake). Both have resorts that offer rentals, but check availability on their websites onlline at Crescent Lake Resort or Odell Lake Lodge and Resort.
-- Enjoy a 30-min to 1- hr drive along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Highway with stops at various lakes/resorts for lunch along the way (Twin Lakes, Lava Lake, Elk Lake)
-- A quick 15-min drive gets you to Willamette Pass Ski Resort for downhill skiing and the Gold Lake Snow Park for xctry skiing and snowshoeing (rentals available). Stop at the Willamette Pass Ski Hut in the Gold Lake Sno-Park parking lot to warm up and enjoy a cup of hot cider. (We provide 4 sets of adult size snowshoes and 3 or 4 sleds.) Plenty of maps and information are available in our "Welcome" guidebook.
-- Plan to drive one-hour and spend the day at Oregon's famed Crater Lake National Park for spectacular views, hiking, or hanging out at the lodge.
-- Mt Bachelor Ski Resort is only a one-hour drive for some of the best ski and snowboarding runs in the state.
-- Head north on Hwy 97 for a 45min to one-1 drive to visit the Lava Caves, the High Desert Museum, or the city of Bend, Oregon (known for great microbrews and fun downtown vibe)
-- Find excellent fishing in the high lakes. Within 20 minutes, enjoy two flyfishing-only lakes (Gold Lake and Davis Lake) for rainbows, brookies, and bass. Both Crescent and Odell lakes offer fishing for lake trout and kokanee. Boat rentals available at both Crescent and Odell lake resorts. Thirty-minute plus will get you to Wikiup, Crane Prairie, and Waldo Lakes. Drive 45-minutes to enjoy beautiful flyfishing-only at Hosmer Lake with outstanding views of Mt. Bachelor and the Three Sisters (also known for paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing on the lake's calm water). An hour away takes you to the famous Diamond, Paulina, and East lakes where boat rentals are available.
-- Need more ideas, feel free to contact us! Or, refer to our Welcome Book and brochures.
The winter months can be a special time to visit. Hwy 58 is plowed by ODOT. And the roads in Diamond Peaks, where our cabin is located, are all plowed. We ensure that our driveway is plowed before guests arrive. Winter is the perfect time for snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding, and you can go straight from the cabin to nearby trails (See our cabin Welcome book for maps). Our cabin is located on the uphill side of the road, which makes for great sledding.
You will need an Oregon Snow Park Permit to park at some locations-available for purchase at the Crescent Lake Sportsman Center or online by searching "Oregon Sno-Park Permit".
