This is an unique home that is located on 59 acres of land. It has been in the same family for generations and was first used as a summer home and then winterized about 40 years ago.
The large wrap around porch has an amazing view of the White Mountains and you can sit there for hours just listening to the stream - looking out at the mountains. One of the wonderful features about this home is that you are completely surrounded by nature while you are there but just a few minutes away you have great restaurants, shopping, golf, skiing and one of the best Farmer's Markets in the area to do your food shopping. As well nearby is the Village of Barnard where there is a State Park on Silver Lake. And there is The Barnard General Store for a great breakfast! Max's Tavern at the Barnard Inn is a wonderful place to have dinner they also have a formal Dining room. The house is comfortable and cozy for two or 14. During the winter months 4 wheel or all wheel drive is needed to get to the house.
First floor: The first floor has a Master bedroom with a full bath and there is an adjoining bedroom with two twin beds, called the 'toe to toe' room. Off these rooms is the large Living room with lots of comfortable places to curl up in front of the fireplace. It has two large window seats, couch, chaise lounge, rocking chair, etc. The next room used to be the formal Dinning room but is now the Family/TV room, it too has lots of seating space, with another fireplace. Then there is the eat in Kitchen that is fully equipped and has a table that can seat 10+. There is a shed off the kitchen that has a BBQ grill. You are totally under cover while at the grill.
On the second floor there are three Bedrooms with Queen size beds and three Bathrooms. One being a suite with it's own bath. One has an open room just off it with a child's bed. Then there is the Nursery with two twin beds and another bedroom with twin beds. The upper bathrooms have old claw foot tubes with hand held showers. We are working on getting a real shower installed upstairs. All bedrooms are nicely decorated, and have lots of closet space. Also on the the second floor is the laundry room. The house is like stepping back into a time less complicated but with all the modern comforts. It is the perfect place to spend time with your family and friends in a relaxed environment.
Caretakers live on the road and are available if needed.
At one time this whole road was owned by family members. They all came here to get away for the summers in beautiful Vermont. There is a private 100 year old Fishing club at the end of the dead end road. This is a true family place. Lots of room to all be together and room to be off on your own. The Appalachian Trail is with in walking distance and off that is a great hike up to Lucy's Lookout where you get a 360 degree view of Vermont and New Hampshire.
This house has never been out of the family. At one time the whole hill was family members and there were cousins running back and forth from house to house. It was used mainly in the summer to begin with and then they but in a furnace. The first furnace used wood and fit 4ft long logs. We have done our best to preserve the original charm while adding modern conveniences. WE hope you will enjoy our home.
Owner purchased this house in 1889
This house is a special place for family gathering. There is enough room to all be together and private space to be apart . The wrap around Porch is a great gathering place rain or shine and the view looking into the white Mts is breathtaking. We have had families with just two children rent the house and they say it always feels cozy, never to big. So large or small group it feels just right
The beauty of this home is that it makes you step back to a time when things were simpler . Families spent dinners together and time hanging out on the porch while the kids play in the yard and discover things about nature. If you are lucky, as some have been, you might see a moose or black bear crossing in the lower field. Nothing to fear they are just passing thru. I walk in the woods all the time with my dog and never have a problem.
From Park City Utah, we loved our time in this lovely house. We enjoyed every nook and cranny and especially the wrap around porch. Our meals in the kitchen were perfect.
Red Top is a beautiful home. I would put it in the category of "grand" and so comfortable. The decorating is eclectic and fun. It is very private with lovely views and grounds. It is incredibly well maintained and well equipped with everything you need. Lesley is very responsive and kind-wants you to love it. We liked the Mountain Creamery in Woodstock the best-real homemade food. The sausage at On the Edge is also terrific. Food at Woodstock Inn is poor. It was just the two of us, but would be great for a large gathering. I would give this the highest possible rating and definitely recommend it to everyone.
Our stay was amazing. The house was perfect for our large group of 7 couples celebrating our 50th birthdays. Lots of large areas to hang, chat, and play games. Private. Stunning views. Friendly neighbors. Beautiful peonies.
Exactly what we wanted for a large group to spend a 50th birthday weekend in Barnard, Woodstock and Windsor. The property, house, fireplaces, bedrooms, linens, guest information, details, and little touches made this home a most enjoyable and warm place to entertain a group- or even just a few couples. Lesley, the property manager, was delightful to deal with and quite responsive through the whole rental. We are eager to return- maybe summer! Thanks!
My family and I stayed at Red Top for a weekend in January. We were very impressed with the amount of detail that this beautiful estate had to offer. The furnishings, huge stone fireplaces, old fashion country kitchen was a perfect setting for our winter skiing weekend. Red Top is a gem and really gives you the feeling of being in "Vermont". We cant wait to go back! Thank you for letting us stay in your fabulous home!
Our family booked this wonderful house during Christmas. It was a perfect backdrop and atmosphere for the holiday season. The house was warm and cozy and Lesley set up a Christmas tree prior to our arrival. The web pictures, while beautiful, do not do this house justice. The attention to little details (including craftsmanship and furnishings for the Christmas holiday) was remarkable. It was exactly what we were hoping for - just like a Currier and Ives post card. Additionally, the house was spotlessly clean, plenty of good quality bathroom towels and nice touches such as wood for the fire, and lovely Christmas adornments. Finally, it was also a great location, just a short drive to everything in beautiful Woodstock.
Our group of 8 stayed at Red Top while showing at GMHA this past weekend. This Home was amazing and so was Lesley. The attention to detail and care is obvious from the moment you drive up the road and see it. From your first step in RED TOP envelopes you and you immediately feel at home. With large comfortable rooms, a kitchen that is a delight gather around for meals and a gorgeous wrap around porch that makes you want to sit there all day just looking at the stunning view. The bedrooms are absolutely pristine and with four washrooms there was no line ups in the morning getting ready (and no shortage of hot water!!). Lesley was truly wonderful to deal with as we were arriving later in the evening she had the heat on and a fire laid in one of the fireplaces ready to go. We are so happy that we decided to book this home and kept trying to find a reasons that would let us stay a few extra days - nobody wanted to leave. We hope to return to GMHA in the future and Red Top will definitely be our first choice while showing there. Thank you so much Lesley for sharing your family's home with us.
