We brought our five children ranging in age from 11 to 2 months and both our sets of parents (all in their 70's) to this property this summer. The home was beautiful and well maintained. My husband went fishing everyday on the pontoon boat with the older kids and we relaxed in the evenings in the basement with movies, games and playing pool after a sunset ride around the lake on the pontoon boat. From the cabin we were able to access some great areas. We made a day trip up the Upper Peninsula to Sault Ste. Marie, we did some smaller trips to Indian River and Burt Lake State Park, Petosky, Grayling and Gaylord. It was a great area to stay in and the cabin was just wonderful. It does get a little hot in the summer, but the basement was nice and cool.
We had 9 women stay 3 nights, we had a great time. We rented the pontoon boat for the weekend and we also went rafting in Indian River down the Sturgeon River. We would recommend this cabin to others.
Our family of 7 rented the cottage for the week. We had a wonderful time, and never felt like there were 7 of us under one roof. It was great that everyone had their own rooms, never had to wait for a bathroom, TV was a plus for those Big Brother fans, and the boat was the best addition. We must have easily caught 500 panfish, and even 1 nice pike. None of which we kept, it was just for the sport, and bragging rights.
Loved the upper deck, listening to the loons, and had something grilled almost every day. And with so much lawn furniture, there was never a shortage of seats in the sun.
The fire pit convienence was great, who could beat a pit right outside the door and down the stairs. My 17year old spent many an hour tending the fire that he insisted we needed to have, and of course we sat around and enjoyed.
The amount of birds in the trees around us, make you feel like your in the middle of the woods. Even had a family of woodpeckers, to watch, as baby learned to imitate Mom.
Your place was easy to find, and no more than an hour from any of the attractions we wanted to see. We spent the day in Mackinaw City, headed to Bellaire for beer tasting at Shorts Brewery, went zip lining at Old Mill Creek, checked out the sinkholes south of Onaway, and Ocqueoc Falls to the east of Onaway. (BTW, bring your bathing suit, it's a great place to cool off on a hot day in the whirlpool) Plus a trip down to Hartwick Pines.
Definitely loved all the kitchen supplies, it made cooking for a larger family easy. And having a dishwasher was sure a plus. It saved us from a lot of hand washing.
Thank you again for letting us rent your lovely cottage. It was a fantastic and way to short week of vacation.
Our family of 4 (plus 1 guest) just left this beautiful cabin, and we hated to leave! It is so well stocked by the owners, just bring your clothes and food. The lack of air conditioning was challenging at times on very hot days, but there are many fans throughout the home, and that helped a great deal. The game room/basement is a perfect spot to hang out on those really hot days! We did rent the pontoon, and that was awesome-went out on the lake daily...mostly for fishing, which was good, but the older teenagers also enjoyed swimming by the sandbar. It's a beautiful lake, and not overly busy, so that made for wonderful times. Not much in Wolverine, granted, but Indian River is close by with many options, and day trips to many popular cities requires only fairly short car rides. For those who want a beach for swimming, our family discovered the Burt Lake State Park in Indian River has a WONDERFUL beach....very sandy, crystal clear water that stays shallow for 100's of yards! Great for little ones, but our teenagers loved it, too! All in all, this vacation was awesome, and we would definitely use this rental again. It was rated one of our best vacations by all!
Couldn't say enough good things about the house itself other than no A/C. Tended to get a bit hot mid-day, but as others mentioned, plenty of box and window fans to help out. We had 4 adults and 4 young children. Suprisingly well equipped beautiful house with everything you could need beside food. Boat rental is a great idea, but with 4 kids under 4 years old, it was better suited for a floating paito with walls. Pool table and dart board was great for when the kids went to bed. Our only negative about this property is it had zero view of the beautiful lake from the deck. I highly recommend to remove some trees, or at least undercut them. Also, some more beach/ sitting areas other than the dock would make this a 5-star for sure. Not much action in Wolverine, but Indian River has everything you'll need. Thanks for a great week!
We rented this cabin 7/15-7/22 and had a wonderful time. Our four adult kids, three spouses, three grand children all joined us for the weekend and then left us time to kick back a few days on our own. The cabin is great, has a well stocked kitchen and nice decor. We had the very hottest weather I have ever experienced in the north country and the trees surrounding the cabin really helped keep it cooler. The cabin does not have air conditioning which I did not even consider as a necessary thing - boy were we glad there were LOTS of fans and a great cool downstairs room to hang out in! We did wish there was some beach area for the kiddies, but alas, only the dock. We rented the pontoon and recommend it! The lake is great for swimming and fishing and we enjoyed cruising around. We also went to Mackinaw Island (40 minutes north) and kayaked the Sturgeon & Pigeon Rivers. The Sturgeon is the best river in lower Michigan and I recommend the Wolverine to South White Road, it even has some rapids. We had tons of fun!
