I am the Latin teacher at Nauset Regional High School. Originally from Washington, D.C., I moved to Cape Cod in 2000 with my wife Helen, an Atlanta native who works for Delta Airlines. Helen and I met while working for Chatham Bars Inn 20 years ago, and as we fell in love with one another we also fell in love with the natural beauty and charm of the Cape and of Chatham in particular. We enjoy life on the Cape with our three sons, John, Ben, Will, passionate about the game soccer and the theater (quite a combination!). Each summer we travel to near and far flung destinations thanks to Helen's travel benefits while we invite families who might also appreciate the quaint charm of Chatham to share our home.
Sean purchased this house in 2003
When we first moved to Chatham, we lived in a classic Cape cottage that was located on the very property we own today. As our family grew, we made the decision to build our new house on the location we fell in love with, alongside Perch Pond. A day trip to Nantucket put a few design ideas in Helen head which I translated into some rough drawings for my friend, colleague, and local architect Greg Kelly. The old cottage was sold to a young history teacher from Harwich for $1, and he moved it to its present location in Brewster. By the time our youngest was born in 2003, our beautiful pond side colonial was ready for us to move in, and we've been enjoying every since.
There are many special places in our house that we love to be, but it has to be said that many of them have to do with our rear vistas of Perch Pond. Most of our warm weather evening meals are enjoyed on the screened porch overlooking the pond and wetland. Helen and I sometimes use our master bed room balcony as a place to sit and relax during morning coffee or evening cocktails. Our formal dining room is the scene of our annual Christmas dinner served on our best china, but eaten while still in our morning pajamas!
We've stayed on the Cape many, many times and have stayed in Chatham always. We like to stay within a short walk to the village because of traffic and parking. This year we booked a little late and couldn't find anything as close as we wanted - enter this wonderful home. First to note, this is a home - not a house that someone bought to rent out and minimally furnished - and the feel of it is comfortable and welcoming. The distance to town center is less than a 5 min drive, and 15/20 min walk (which we did several times). I will say the location of the house is great and we weren't affected by not being directly in town. I will also add that 5 min of the walk into town is on Olde Queen Anne Road, which doesn't have a sidewalk, and is busy with traffic. Once you hit the sidewalk, easy walk into town. The house is as described, along with towels, bed linens, and beach supplies. The beach towels are on the small side, so maybe bring your own. The kitchen is well equipped; the grill is new and works great; the screened-in porch and deck are very nice with a nice view of Perch Pond, and lots of seating. The bedrooms were comfortable and all had ceiling fans and plenty of clothing storage. Bathrooms aplenty. They were clean and with good water pressure. Oh, and the central air -- wonderful (we had several 90 degree days). All in all, a great place to stay.
Sean, Helen and the family were there to greet us when we arrived, a relaxed conversation about their house and what it offered followed and then we were left to our own devices for the next 7 days.
The house was everything we wanted and more
The house is in a wonderful location overlooking Perch Pond (more like a lake actually!) just situated outside the beautiful town of Chatham, it is full of character and very much a family home that we really enjoyed sharing for the week.
We were made to feel that nothing was too much trouble (indeed later in the week when we had a problem re lighting in one of the bedrooms, Sean had it sorted in 2 minutes with a very quick return phone call)
We enjoyed the house so much we stayed in 5 of the 7 nights and took advantage of the monster gas barbeque and relaxed setting.
The local supermarket was very well stocked (although expensive) and we were able to buy all the variety of food we could ask for.
When we had finished our evening meal re went downstairs into the basement where we had table tennis and pool to keep us occupied along with musical instruments (there's a guitar, snare drum and piano at the house !)
There are also plenty of games and books available for younger children
Chatham has expensive shops and restaurants that are all worth a visit (or two!) we went to Chatham Squires which was very good and Del Mar which was superb.
We visited July 4th week so had to pre book restaurants otherwise you had a lengthy wait (maybe other times of the year this is a lot shorter?)
However there are lots of restaurants to choose from and you could easily have a great meal every night.
There are plenty of beaches within a short driving distance, all well worth a visit.
The icing on the cake, our €300 deposit for damages was actually refunded the same day we left!!
Sean is a very efficient, helpful and friendly host.
Everything you could want for a great location close to Chatham and Harwich and all the sites. Beautiful view of the pond and lovely birds to watch from the open or the screened porch. All the amenities of home and delightful owners to boot.
Everything about our week in Chatham was perfect, but never would have been as comfortable without all the conveniences of this lovely home! Along with our 3 twenty-something kids, my husband and I woke each morning with a fresh pot of coffee on the cool porch, planning our day. Do we head left into town to explore Main Street or do we head right and relax at the beach? Some days we did both-easy walk/drive/bike ride to everything! And on that miserable rainy day? The house was plenty big enough to have each of us scattered in different cozy, comfortable, beautiful rooms! Very sad to leave this home. We all enjoyed each and every day.
This colonial house was very comfortable for the 6 of us - 4 adults, 2 children. Great outdoor shower and back porch for relaxing. Good location for walking in town.
We had a relaxing week in Chatham staying at Sean's charming home. The house is filled with cozy nooks to sit and read books from his libraries or to play some of the many games available. The house is spacious and beautifully decorated. We loved our morning coffee on the back deck overlooking Perch Pond and watching for various wildlife. It did rain during our stay, however, we still enjoyed the outdoors within the screened porch. There was ample parking and storage for our bikes. Sean's home is perfect for a quick trip to the Corner Store, Chatham Bakery, Delmar, Red Nun, Chatham A's baseball games, and of course, shopping! Thank you Sean for sharing your lovely home with us. All our best, The Cicarellis
