In the area you will find colourful yachting harbours, fantastic golf courses, some overlooking the Mediterranean and the mountains. The place has unforgettable diving spots (with caves etc.), and there are diving schools in most of the seaside towns, including one in Cebère that has its own salt-water pool and boat. You can also choose to sail or surf – or you may explore the Pyrénées – on foot by mountain bike or 4x4 (be sure to bring water and compass). In the neighboring towns there are restaurants with Michelin stars and casinos. You can also spend a day on horseback or take a trip with the famous yellow train leaving from the medieval town of Villefranch-de-Conflent continuing through the Pyrénées to Andorra.Or what about a travel in time to the Middle Ages? Visit the castles (e.g. Carcassonne castle) and the surrounding villages, rich in culture traces of both French, Spanish, Roman and Moorish origin. In addition, the Pyrénées offer incredible stalactite caves.

Other detail: What about a travel in time to the Middle Ages? Visit the castles (e.g. Carcassonne castle) and the surrounding villages, rich in culture traces of both French, Spanish, Roman and Moorish origin. In addition, the Pyrénées offer incredible stalactite caves, some of which are enormous. In the winter, the Pyrénées offer some of the very best skiing destinations, and visited by far less tourists than the Alps.
Trips to Spain or Andorra can also be made, among other sights you can visit Salvador Dali’s native town, Figueres, which is located about 30 kilometers drive from Cebère. If you fancy Formula 1 Barcelona is only 170km away. Roussillon offers kilometres of beautiful sandy beaches facing the azure Mediterranean. In this southern part of South France you are far away from the touristy glamour, the excessively high prices, the noise and the pickpockets that you come across in the French Riviera (Monaco, Nice and Cannes).
my husband and I built the house in 2008 because we love the area and the view is unique.
The beautiful view
We had a lovely stay at the villa. It is beautiful and the views from the balconies are gorgeous and restful. The pictures do not fully do it credit. The villa was well equipped with everything that we could need - with lots of kitchen equipment, towels, bedding and outside furniture. There is good wifi and some English TV channels.
The villa is a good hike from the town - downhill going into town and uphill coming back. We were on the cusp of the season and there were limited options for eating/drinking - although the few restaurants that there were were very nice and friendly. The local bakery is open each morning with a supply of bread and pastries and the little 'metro' has everything you need for a short stay. There is also a shop selling cards and maps and a couple of souvenir shops.
We swam in the bay which was rocky in places but sheltered and warm. We went for some stunning walks into the base of the mountains and across the coast to local towns.
A couple of things would have improved our stay. Firstly, it is a long way from the station to the villa with your cases and we did not have details of a local cab firm to pick us up. When we arrived, we had the key details but did not know where to find the key safe - which took us a while to figure out and we were hot and tired after the hill! The air con in the front room did not work during our stay although we didn't bother to get this fixed as it was not too hot. The pool heating was not on but this was resolved by the owner after a day or two.
There was limited information about local towns buses, train times, shopping etc - all of which would have helped to make our stay easier. Finally, they were building a new villa at the end of the row which meant we had machine noise during our stay. It was not overwhelming but is was a bit distracting - especially with the workmen overlooking the pool! Not something the owner could have foreseen but worth trying to check if quiet is important to you.
Overall, we had a lovely stay and can recommend the accommodation.
Villa was as described - very clean and everything needed was provided. Owners were helpful when contacted. Key pickup worked well. We really missed having a microwave for heating milk, porridge soup etc., but everything else was excellent in the lovely kitchen. The only negative for us was the small lounge area, with uncomfortable furniture and a too large coffee table. This wouldn't be an issue later in the year as there are large patio areas. I would recommend this villa for family and friends for a lovely holiday.
This home is amazing. There is so much to do within the immediate area. We took a beautiful hike to a secluded pebble beach. We began the hike at a trailhead five minutes from the house. The view from the house is spectacular! The town here is small but has a little market that has beer and other necessities. The tourism center is very helpful. There is much to do in the area. We drove to Carcassonne to visit the castle. That was an amazing trip! There is a little beach restaurant very close, Le Bout du Monde we drove to. You need to make a reservation. It was fabulous, a must do! Hope to visit this place again someday!
We loved our holiday! The villa was perfect - the 4 main bedrooms are of a good size and located on the lower floor. This arrangement was great as we were travelling with 3 young children and they could go to sleep without any noise from late dinners bothering them. The entire villa is new and very nice, especially the bathrooms. The balcony upstairs next to the living room and kitchen was wonderful for dining outside and the poolside area was large enough to use many lounge chairs and for children to run around and play.
The property was well maintained. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that we had some problems when we arrived but after contacting the owner everything was fixed quickly and we enjoyed our time at villa.
The description in the ad very accurately portrays the villa. The poolside area now has also a glass barrier (not seen on the photos), which was nice as otherwise it would have been quite dangerous with kids. We also found that there was a baby travel bed, which we were very happy about and which is not mentioned in the ad. The air-conditioning was working well (maybe even too well :) ) and as it was very hot in July we were happy to have that.
Regarding beaches and travelling in the region: In Cerbere the beach is mainly pebbles, but there is a more sandier strip towards the end of the beach. I also recommend the nice boulangerie in the town for breakfast croissants. For travelling around the region, we really liked Banylus-sur-mer. I would recommend the restaurant les Jardins de Saint Sebastien which had great food and service and a wonderful attitude to babies. Another town a little further that I loved was Collioure which should be a 'must visit' for all.
