I live on the Big Island with my husband and 3 children. I work as a teacher at a school in Waimea. I am a marathon runner and I love Hawaii very much and we plan on staying here for a long long time.
The house is very peaceful, with the most spectacular views.
Our stay at the Whitfield Kohala Ranch House was very memorable. As a family of five visiting Hawaii for the first time, it was the perfect place to stay. The home and it's location were a vacation in and of themselves. The house, complete with guest quarters, is marvelous, in it's design, decor, and pristene condition. That combined with the serenity of the environs and the spectacular views would bring us back as often as we could!

The house is wonderful and was on par with what we expected. (This is coming from Oahu where the place we stayed at, fell short.)
The ranch was wonderful experience, rich with green grass with well maintained animals. The healthy and happy horses, sheep and cows have shiny coats.
There was 7 of us (a couple stayed in the cottage) and the house was spacious and beautiful. We cooked dinner almost every night. The pool was one of the favorite things about the house. The outdoor shower was another aspect.
Pamela was quick on responding to us and let us have a late checkout which made all the difference in the whole. It was much appreciated as we had an evening flight.
Being on the ranch with quiet privacy has a had a catch. It take about 20 minutes to exit. That being said, we would most definitely stay again.
We had a fantastic time in the luxurious, spacious Welina house! We are a family of 5 and travelled with my husband's sister and daughter. With 3 adults and 4 teenagers, we needed a place with some space and a fully equipped kitchen. We rented the house and guesthouse. The house was a 12 minute drive to two of the most gorgeous beaches on the island, Puako and Mauna Kea. There was also an excellent fish market at the bottom of the hill and fantastic shave ice/icecream place (I recommend the white chocolate ginger icecream, but all flavors were excellent). After each day at the beach, we enjoyed having dinner in the fully equipped kitchen/dining area and watching the gorgeous peaceful sunsets by the pool. The house is about 10 degrees cooler than down by the beach, so much more comfortable. Sometimes it was pretty windy so we only used the jacuzzi/pool a few times. There were lots of movies and games for the family too. All in all, the description was accurate, the photos reflect the amenities, the property was clean and well-maintained, Pam was very helpful in answering questions/concerns, and we will definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. We hope to come back too!
Everyday while we stayed at this Kohala Ranch property, we were mesmerized by the views, watching distant weather patterns, hills and mountains, ocean, beautiful birds singing, butterflies dancing, and rainbows appearing all around us. Honestly, I thought that I was living in a dream! The children played and swam excitedly, walked atop the rock walls, and caught insects in the surrounding hills. And of course, with every drive through the wondrous Kohala Ranch, we were bound to see some free grazing cows and turkeys. The home was modern including gorgeous woodwork, vaulted ceilings, and an open floor plan. A divine Master bathroom with an outdoor rock shower looking at the ocean and Mauna Kea, as did the indoor extra spacious indoor shower, too! All you need is a trip to the grocery store, and one does not need anything else for at least a week. This was beyond our favorite place to stay to date, and I think we may not top this one anytime soon. Truly relaxing and rejuvenating!
Perfect place to relax and enjoy the big island. The house is full of every amenity that you could ever want. Stop by the local fish market, grill some food and enjoy the views. Pam was very helpful during our stay and answered all our questions. The cows on the ranch like to make your evening drive home an adventure, but it just adds to the Hawaii feel. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
We had a great time with three generations of our family, ages 8 months to 62 yrs. at this gorgeous home within the exclusive Kohala Ranch. It's accurately described and has wonderful views - water everywhere. Pictures on this site are current. The pool is large and around 5 ft at the shallow end and has a great hot tub. Also, a great outside barbeque and patio for outdoor dining. Very private setting with cattle roaming outside the gated perimeter walls -drive slowly as you will find them walking down the middle of the road. It's about halfway up the mountain and offers great views. While we were there, there was roughly a 10 degree difference in temperature from the coast. The house is equipped everything you need in the kitchen and for the beach. We rented both the house and the studio and no one had any complaints. Open space living in large areas - no one will feel cramped. The master wing is also very private. Very luxurious feel staying here. The property manager was a delight to deal with and made sure that our late night arrival was expected and had a baby's pack n play all set up for us and some morning essentials in the kitchen. If we get another chance for a trip like this, we would stay here again. It's about a 15 to 20 minute drive to most anything so a car is a must, but that also provides for seclusion. The owner/manager left many recommendations for us for food, entertainment shopping, and activities. They'll do their best to accommodate any reasonable request. Can't go wrong here.
A great place to stay for two adults. The Cottage is a one-bedroom, living room, small kitchen equipped with refridgerator, microwave, toaster, small counter oven and no dishwasher. So, don't expect to do gourmet meals. It is a quiet place to come back to after a day of exploring and eating great meals in Kawaihae and Waimea!
Thank you again! Will definitely come again!
