About John Holland

My wife and I are the proud parents of 5 children. We live here in the beautiful upstate of South Carolina. This is the best place to live and vacation near mountains and lakes, hiking, and all the excitement of Clemson University. We would love to share our part of the country with you.

John Holland purchased this cabin in 2012

Why John Holland chose Table Rock

This property is great for relaxing and getting away without going far. It is easy to get to and you won't want to leave when you do. I bought this property because it is so peaceful. The cabin is also close to many great state parks and other recreation areas

What makes this cabin unique

Close to all upstate attractions. Great place to sit by the river and just relax

Comfortable but not quite the experience I was looking for

Upon driving in, I was surprise to find that the cabin is actually in a neighborhood with houses very close on both sides and neighbors across the street. The area is very rural with manufactured homes and sheds on most of the properties. When we arrived at the property, the first thing we noticed was the overflowing gutters and the general lack of outdoor cleaning. We spent the first 3 hours of our stay sweeping the front porch, the side walkway, and the desks in the back. All areas were covered with leaves and debris. (I realize this time of year leaves are falling constantly, and it isn't realistic to think one would not have any debris on the patio and the decks - but, the situation in the yard that we encountered looked like neglect in any yard upkeep and grooming). Also, we could not find a rake, so we used brooms which were inefficient for yard cleaning. The screening on the porch is also in need of replacing.

The cabin was clean and the condition is as the photos present. The hot tub was very nice and much enjoyed, but again there isn't real privacy with very close neighbors all around if that would concern anyone. The cabin was quiet and the neighborhood seemed quiet as well. There is no internet on the property, also something else I did not think to inquire about - I have my own mi-fi hotspot, but still could not connect.

Owner's Response: Obviously I didn't meet this guest's expectation. I am sorry. With last minutes guests coming in to escape Hurricane Matthew and I was was unable to completely clean the outside as usual. Combine the wind from a hurricane with fall leaves and you have a mess. This cabin has some awesome mostly weekend neighbors. We don't hide the fact that we can't get internet. It is in the contract. I wish we had it.

Great place to relax

  • 5 of 5

What a perfect place for a get away. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. Totally enjoyed the cabin, deck and hot tub. Location was close to state parks to enjoy the views and hiking but you felt like you were in your own private world when at the house. I will definitely recommend this cabin and hope to be able to stay again in the future!

Very quiet and relaxing atmosphere

  • 5 of 5

John Hollands cabin was beautiful, very clean . The scenery from the screened porch was gorgeous. The season was very dry this year so the water level was a little low, but we did enjoy throwing a fishing pole in to catch some small little fish. We went to several park areas to see some beautiful water falls and mountain scenery. We went on a short hike to one of the falls. and the best part was that it was all close to the cabin we stayed at. We also enjoyed a day on the water renting a boat at the state park to fish. After our long day of site seeing we came back to the cabin and relaxed in the hot tub. We would recommend this place to everyone who was interested in a quiet relaxing vacation.

Very relaxing place to enjoy the area but a little too far from Greenville

Only issue was that there was no closet to hang my dress and my husbands suit and tie for the dinner we had to go to

Whether a retreat from it all or a launch point for adventure, THIS IS IT!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we walked in the front door we knew we found something special. Met by the wood interior, our eyes were immediately drawn to the wall size picture window in the dining room. Drawn to that side of the house, we were greeted by the view of the river and the back yard. Our usual exploration of the property interior was put aside and we headed for the screened porch and out to the water. We were greeted by the sounds of the river, the peacefulness of the setting and the appreciation of how nicely the structure was integrated into the setting. With a tasteful rustic feel the property was far from rustic. All the modern conveniences one would expect seamlessly blended with the feel. Though we had considered plans out our first night we quickly changed our minds and settled in for the evening. A relaxing session in the hot tub and a nice dinner in the dining room overlooking the river melded into a night of board games and popcorn.

Centrally located between Table Rock State Park and Caesar's Head State Park the location couldn't have been more perfect. Always fun, we started at Long Shoals State Park where you can slide down a long section of the rock river bottom into a large natural pool at it's end. Looking for a waterfall but not necessarily a long hike? Try Twin Falls! Not exactly easy to find, an easy 1/4 mile walk is all it takes to get there from the parking lot and you arrive almost at the base of the falls, often the only people there. We can not visit this area of the state without visiting Symmes Chapel, also known as Pretty Place. Gaze out upon the panoramic view of the foothills and valleys, take a few minutes to reflect on life and enjoy the cool mountain air. We also found time for some light hiking, swimming, paddle boating, canoeing and scenic drives. Another great thing about this property's central location, we were able to plan a stop back for our meals there between activities keeping dining costs down. Do as we did: prepare a few make ahead meals to simply heat and eat. Friday night, the seafood buffet with live bluegrass music at Aunt Sue's. Can't say enough good about the owner and our contacts, the condition of the property and the description of it and the area. Overall I've had great experiences with HomeAway or VRBO properties but have to list this property among the best. I'm hoping this property is available the next time we return to this area and have already mentioned it to family and friends.

A beautiful view and easy acess to the Saluda River and nearby mountian hiking.

The cabin had everything we needed and minimal steps made entry fairly easy for a family member who uses a walker. Thank you, John!
