About The Owner

My name is Heather Love and my husband Don and I live in Charlottetown, PEI, with our daughter Christina, who attends the local university. I moved to PEI from my original home in Newfoundland in 1973 and Don and I have spent the past 27 years living and working in the Charlotteotwn area. We started out together in Don's family homestead in Charlottetown, built in 1885 by his great, great, grandfather and lived in by 6 generations of his family . We eventually sold the old house in 1993, and built a new house in a suburban setting more suited to raising kids. But we missed the appeal of the old house charm, and decided, in 1994, to buy an older apartment building in the historic section of the city. After three years, we bought another, and started the long and challenging restoration process. After fifteen years and many projects, we decided, in 2009, to restore our largest apartment unit into an upscale vacation rental, in order to allow folks to experience historic Charlottetown from the inside, and to provide elegant accommodations, modern conveniences and a great location to those visiting our great little city.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 1997

Why The Owner chose Charlottetown

We have truly enjoyed developing the old property at 6 Grafton St. We have done extensive renovations and restorations to the exterior and interior, but the work is never done. We have plans to make the property as energy efficient and 'green' as possible, and we have plans to restore another of the units into a vacation property.

What makes this apartment unique

While staying at our property, you can enjoy a quiet, spacious environment right in the heart of the city. Each unit in our building has a private deck overlooking an expansive back yard highlighted by gardens and trees. Inside, our vacation unit contains a blend of modern convenience and historic charm. The beds and bedding are new and of best quality. We have a cozy den with a plasma TV, cable, wireless internet, and stereo system to entertain you on those rainy days and lazy evenings. We have a dining room for more formal occassions, or you can eat in our new and spacious kitchen, complete with new appliances, portable island, tile floor, icemaker, and much more. You are less than a 10 minute walk to the theatre, grocery store, banks, restaurants, waterfront, shopping area, and sports facilities. It's really a great way to experience everything that Charlottetown has to offer. And if it's the beach you like, the PEI National Park is a 30 minute drive and boasts the finest beaches in the world. We even provide you with a park pass and beach towels. And don't forget the golf. We have world class courses as close as 10 minutes away.

Spacious & Elegant Downtown Living

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I lived here for the months of January, February and March 2017. We were both working temporarily in Charlottetown and needed a furnished apartment within walking distance to downtown. Well me hit the jackpot with this property! Heather & Don were wonderful landlords and upon arrival we were welcomed with a box of chocolates and a plant. They were easily accessible and the snow was always removed quickly. The apartment is spacious and beautifully furnished with all the amenities you could ever ask for. The kitchen is very modern with a flat top stove, refrigerator with ice maker and dishwasher. The living room is very cosy, you can shut the glass doors and nestle in for the evening with a great movie. They have thought of all the details, down to cleaning supplies, hotel sized toiletries, books and a plethora of towels and bedding. It takes less than 5 minutes to walk downtown to all the wonderful restaurants, shops and services that Charlottetown has to offer. A 2 minute walk to the waterfront and a 10 minute drive to Charlottetown Mall and all the box stores. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Charm, Convenience, and Civility

  • 5 of 5

Where do you start after a summer of living in and at 6 Grafton St ? Let's start with Charm.

A lovely old family home near the west end of Grafton. It is spacious, beautifully furnished, equipped with all the amenities of home, well-landscaped, spacious bathroom, excellent climate control, off-street parking, and a delightful deck.

Convenience you ask !? Well here's a few suggestions : Need bikes and helmets ? Don's got them stored in the shed and ready for you. A morning walk in the park .... you are less than a leisurely 10 minute walk to the serenity of Victoria . Actually, other than the 5 to 10 minute drive to the Atlantic Super Store or Sobey's, you can access countless Charlottetown venues of all kinds within a 20 minute walk from "home". At 6 Grafton, you will be at the epicenter of residential convenience to downtown delight. Heather and Don will come running with a smile of their face if you need help with anything beyond your purvey. We just don't have enough space here to list all the things that you can do/visit to eat, drink, and be merry as each day unfolds around the magic that is Prince Edward Island . Whether you need rest, adventure, or both, you are in for a treat at 6 Grafton !

Last, but arguably, the most important - civility. I have never seen or experienced so many smiling faces and helpful countenance as my wife and I encountered in Charlottetown and all of PEI. Pedestrians rule the streets and motorists smile as they motion your right-of-way. Efficient servers and cheerful bartenders ! Helpful neighbors ! Patient and helpful shop keepers ! I think you get the idea.

I hope this review helps you, and know that while it may seem a bit lengthy, it's only a synopsis of our recent 74 days at 6 GRAFTON STREET !

Clean and quaint

  • 5 of 5

We were made to feel special at every turn. The apartment was spacious and the owners were welcoming. Upon arrival, we were even treated to a bottle of Anne's (Anne of Green Gables) Raspberry Cordial. Everyone visiting PEI should give that a try! We were within walking distance to many wonderful restaurants (Waterhouse Prince, Dundee Arms, the Pilot House, and a lobster roll at Dave's Lobster at Founder's Hall was simple yet so delicious.) We rented a car and drove all over the Island. The country side and coastal areas are beautiful. The cultural highlight of our week-long stay was our trip to the Trailside Inn in Mount Stewart for dinner and live music. We also enjoyed a tour of Beaconsfield House and a factory tour of Cow's Creamery. We highly recommend this vacation rental property in the quiet, beautiful, friendly, and interesting district of Historic Charlottetown.

Wonderful vacation apartment

  • 5 of 5

My 20+ year older daughter and I spent five days in Charlottetown living in this beautiful vacation apartment. It is 5-10 minutes to walk to the downtown area. Lots of small restaurants and bars with live local music. We went out for lunch everyday (usually mussels and raw oysters) but had supper at home barbequeing seafood kabobs and fish on the Weber barbeque on the back deck. My daughter biked to Sobey's to pick up groceries. (Otherwise you need a car or taxi.) You can buy lobster, shrimp and catch of the day from a local restaurant (on the corner of Prince and Water). We would love to come back again and we have already recommended this apartnment to friends who are coming to PEI later in the summer. Lots to shop for in Charlottetown - lovely jewlery and scarves for women. The apartment is near the waterfront and boardwalk - we spent a lot of time walking everywhere. Thank-you Heather and Don!

First time in PEI and not the last ❤❤❤

  • 5 of 5

First of all, thank you soooo much to Heather ❤ and her hubby, this house has all what you need for a family of 4,all you see on the pictures and description from the listing are exactly the same, this house is just so well maintained and will recommend it to all my family and friends . You are central to mostly everything, during the day, driving to the beach or just sightseeing taking in all the beautiful scenery and at night a beautiful walk to the celebration zone for free concerts and fun for kids and parents, and can't miss out on a walk to COWS Ice cream 😍😍😍. This house is just IMPECABLE ,clean and functional, you just need to bring yourselves and enjoy the PEI atmosphere and people, and scenery.

Once again, thank you Heather for the warm and loving hospitality and inputs on where to go and see and eat. Can't wait to see you again on our next visit in PEI.

EXCELLENT APARTMENT !

  • 5 of 5

EXCELLENT APARTMENT !

We spent 4 great weeks in this most beautiful Charlottetown apartment ... more like a "home away from home"... so much so, we are definitely returning next year.

The apartment is even better than depicted in the listing ... it is immaculate and incredibly well equipped. It is located in the very best area of the city ... quiet, safe and yet only a 4 or 5 minute walk from the best Charlottetown has to offer... Theatre, restaurants, boardwalk etc...

We are former residents of the city and revisited some of our favorite eating places... The Dundee Arms and its beautiful bistro and patio... The Gahan House... The Pilot House... The Claddagh Oyster House... each offering something unique ... and there are many more, all within easy reach.

Also, no visit to PEI is complete without attending live theatre and or music events available all summer long and into the fall.

The hosts, Heather and Don are most charming, welcome you like family and are readily available if needed... note: we did not encounter any problems during our stay.

Highly recommended !
