A Perfect Retreat

  • 5 of 5

The Acadia Cottage was perfect for our stay in the area. It was clean, cozy and had everything we needed and then some! Its perch up on a hill offers great views and lovely breezes. Other than the owner - who we met upon arrival - we never saw another person while at the cottage. The location is absolutely perfect - away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor (just a 15 minute drive away) and close to the lovely little village of Southwest Harbor. Make sure you spend some time in the shops and restaurants there - CODA, Beal's Lobster, and Quietside Cafe (for ice cream) were our favorites. Be sure to do the Acadia Mountain hike for views that can't be found in the national park. We look forward to being able to stay here again!

A beautiful setting and a wonderful getaway

  • 5 of 5

As a family of 6, we comfortably stayed in this cottage for a week. The house was immaculate and everything we needed was provided. The house is on a beautiful lot with amazing views. You feel like you are out in the middle of the woods, but you are approximately 15 minutes from Acadia and Bar Harbor. We loved that we could visit all of these wonderful places and come back to peace and quiet. We spent many of our evenings and mornings enjoying the beautiful views from the hot tub and also sitting by the fire. It truly provided us a relaxing escape.

A great property and now with a/c!

  • 5 of 5

Over the last five years our family of four has spent a total of 10 weeks at this property so that should give you an idea of how much we like it. This year Dave, the owner, surprised us with the addition of mini-split a/c units upstairs and in the master bedroom! It was so wonderful not to have to rely on Mother Nature to keep us cool! We love this rental because of the seclusion from other houses but the proximity to Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor. The hot tub is a family favorite. The views of Somes Sound and the mountains are fantastic. It's a perfect Acadia retreat.

A perfect place!!

  • 5 of 5

Of course we saw the pictures before booking our stay at The Acadia but nothing prepared us for the real thing. It's breathtakingly beautiful! The house was perfect for us even with 2 adults and 4 kids. We did our best to put a dent the enormous pile of firewood by cooking s'mores and even home-made bread over the incredible fire pit and enjoying our time outside under the stars. One of the best parts was the privacy ... there are no other houses in sight (save one far off in the distance and up a hill). It really felt like we had whole universe to ourselves. The walk to the dock on Somes sound was a bit farther than we expected but the path was well marked with numbers and the kids went down to the water frequently.

The house was clean and neat with plenty of towels for all 6 of us. The owner, Becky, was great to work with.

Next time we come back to Maine we will most definitely try to get this place again!!

A Beautiful Mountain Respite

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful location and home! The home itself is clean and well-stocked with what you will need for the week. Location wise, it offers convenient access to all that Acadia National Park has to offer while also providing privacy from the more touristy Bar Harbor side of the island. The Acadia felt like another world - allowing us to unwind from work and life amid the breathtaking mountain views. We can't say enough about it. Rent today; you won't regret it!

Owner's Response: That's why we, too, love the "Quiet Side" of the island! Mount Desert (pronounced like what you eat after dinner, despite the spelling) Island is more than just Bar Harbor. The island is split down the middle by seven-mile-long Somes Sound, the East's only fjord. The Acadia is perched above the west shore. The towns and villages on the western side have just about everything Bar Harbor does -- except for the tourist traps and the people who flock there. Fewer people means smaller, more charming lobster places, shops and galleries. It means minimal auto traffic, less-crowded hiking trails and carriage roads. The western half of Acadia also has more quaint fishing villages and cute little harbors to explore. And with Bar Harbor less than 10 miles from the cottage, it's easy to visit without having to live it!

Perfect Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from our stay at The Acadia. We had a fantastic time exploring MDI, but beyond this, we loved this rental! It was perfect for my husband and I, and our 3 young kids. We all enjoyed exploring the property (its on a rock quarry, with water access), loved seeing wildlife from the deck, and especially enjoyed the wonderful view of Somes Sound. The hot tub was a wonderful bonus and we used it almost every day. We also enjoyed using the fire pit to make a campfire complete with s'mores one evening (there were even the perfect sticks to roast marshmallows right there by the fire pit). The cabin has everything you need to be right at home. We go through a lot of towels and I almost brought some extras just in case. So glad I didn't...I counted at least 14 bath towels! There were plenty of extra blankets/linens, as well as pillows. They really have included EVERYTHING you could need. Extras we appreciated were: Kids games and Maine-themed children's books, first aid kit, laundry baskets, EVERY kitchen gadget you could need to make a feast, plenty of dishes/silverware/glasses/mugs, and plenty of seating for everyone. The owner of the cabin was very prompt and responsive with a few very minor issues we had (due to user error!). Acadia National Park/Mt. Desert is an amazing place to visit with SO much to do (we did not come close to doing everything!), and this rental was so wonderful to come home to each day and relax in. It is right in the middle of the island, making it perfect for accessing all areas. Highly recommend!

Owner's Response: We work hard to provide a special retreat for guests to enjoy. Our many years of hosting guests at our two vacation rentals have given us so much insight into what people want....a comfortable, well-maintained and well-equipped retreat with great amenities. We are proud to offer just that!
