Fabulous property, beautiful site - highly recommended.

We had a marvelous 5 nights at this gorgeous property. The setting is spectacular -- it’s literally right on a collection of ponds and inlets, with kayaking and snorkeling available literally at your feet. The property itself is beautiful and in excellent condition, filled with beautiful Indonesian wood furniture, and the setting is quite private.

We were two families with teen children traveling together, and we had a marvelous time sitting on the beautiful balconies staring at the ocean, snorkeling in the pond, watching the puffer fish get fed, and taking excursions to nearby tide pools, farmer’s markets, towns, as well as venturing out for zip lining, and hiking in volcano national park. We divided our Big Island stay between this property and a hotel on the Kona side, and we loved the mixture of sights and experiences, but this property definitely won the ‘specialness’ award.

The kitchen was equipped for all basic cooking needs, and there’s a nice outdoor grill which we put to use. The master suite is gorgeous. There are two other bedrooms upstairs that share a bathroom, one with a queen bed and one with twins. The bathroom they share is spacious, though has only one sink. Downstairs, there’s a separate room with twins, and a fully-plumbed outdoor bathroom (quite luxurious, though not fully waterproof in the rain, and to get there requires walking 20 feet outdoors). Wifi was a little slow (for all 8 of us) but that kept us from being tethered to our devices. The property was very clean, and there were plenty of towels and an assortment of snorkeling equipment to borrow (though for our group of 8, a couple more snorkels would have been a plus). The ceiling fans kept everything cool and comfortable

There’s lots to do within a 30 minute drive, but depending on what you’re looking for, it could be a little remote -- there’s not anywhere to walk to to grab a coffee or a meal. The nearest town is Pahoa, about 15 minutes away, and Hilo is about another 25-30 minutes beyond that. But it’s a fabulous base for both exploring and for relaxing and enjoying the views and the water, and it’s a truly memorable, gorgeous property.

Highly recommended!

Exceeded our expectations in every way possible!

  • 5 of 5

My family took a trip to Hawaii this year and stayed at this rental for 6 days. We wish we could have stayed longer, because the place absolutely blew our minds. This beautifully built house is on a property that's surrounded by stunning scenery and incredible wildlife. Getting to see the turtles and huge variety of fish that swim though the rivers on the property was a very special experience. The owner and property manager were kind and helpful. Can't recommend this place enough.

Once in a lifetime

Just a truly special property, breathtaking really. Grant (property manager) was very friendly and super helpful - plus he does some really incredible art. Our family had an amazing time and our only regret was that we had to leave. :)

This is an amazing home in a great location. The site is beautiful and peaceful. Turtles are all over in the lagoon along with lovely fish. We had a wonderful time and hope we make it back there!

Why stay anywhere else

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks on the island. Our first week was spent at this amazing property, the second week we went to the other side of the island. Our first morning my 16 year old son took his earbuds out and said "mom, why are we going someplace else this place? This place is amazing!" He actually got up early every day to explore the grounds! I wish I had known how amazing it was going to be, I never would have booked a second home in Kailua Kona.

The pictures really don't do it justice. So serene and relaxing! We all got to snorkel, kayak and turtle watch without going anywhere! The grounds and the house were beautiful. The views were spectacular! We loved to sit in the gazebo and watch the sun set and the moon and stars at night.

Sandy took us on a tour of the fruit trees and told us how to tell when the different fruit was ripe. She also made sure we knew what time to look for the turtles. Grant let us in on a local weekly event called Uncle Roberts Market which turned out to be one of our favorite experiences!

The property is close to Hilo and Volcano National Park. The people were all so friendly and welcoming! We would definitely stay here again.
