This 'change house', one of the oldest in the area built more than 90 years ago to provide a freshwater swim after salt and sand, started with three simple rooms: a main room with a native stone fireplace and two changing rooms upstairs. It still has the original main room and the rustic stairs, so several additions and a recent renovation have created a modern and charming cottage. The main room is the living and dining area (a/c, table seats 10). Also on the first floor: master BR with private full bath; twin BR; full bathroom; large modern kitchen (granite counters, ice maker, microwave, china, glassware, cooking gear, washer/dryer nook); bright, sunny sun porch.
Second floor has queen BR & twin BR (both a/c), large full bathroom, DirecTV room with window seat, VCR, DVD, libraries. House is Wifi, also has fax.
Brick patio has teak furniture, is surrounded by roses, heather, ornamental bushes. Sidewalk runs past outdoor shower thru lawn to path under trees to pond with boardwalk to swimming float, near brick patio for picnics. Lawn for croquet game. Woods between both adjacent properties.
Sunfish sailboat, 2 kayaks, rowboat, diving float in deep water, and horseshoe pitch shared with property next door.

We rented this cottage in 1975, purchased it in 1992; enlarged, renovated, and updated it while spending summers here until we retired nearby five years ago. Our children learned to swim, sail, and catch frogs here, and now bring their friends here before and after the season. We can't wait for grandchildren! So we look forward to welcoming you, and wish for you as happy a time in the cottage as we had.
Ted Borman purchased this cottage in 1992
We rented this cottage in 1975 and then again in 1991 because of family and friends in the neighborhood; after the 1991 rental, our children loved the cottage and swimming, we had wonderful family memories, and friends, authors and writers who borrowed it loved it, so we bought it. The friends who had visited it describe it as charming, lovely, quiet, private, unusual.
Movies, upscale shopping, musical theater, gourmet food and grocery stores, antiques, museums - ten to 30 minutes away.
Velvety, clear water; nearest neighbors swim 100 yards away and grandchildren are the voices to be heard. Lie on the private swim float at night: shooting stars are not uncommon and the sky is a million points of light. In the daytime, the cottage is invisible from the pond because of the white pines and hardwood trees we planted over the years. Sit on the patio, and there is nothing more private or quiet; we have to look hard to see another house.
This rental was an excellent choice for our family’s first Cape Cod vacation. We stayed here in September 2015, during the area’s off season. The home was cozy, and provided ample space and activity for our entire family: adults, young children, and canine guests alike.
The house itself is very comfortable, and we made lots of use of the screened in porch as well as the outdoor patio and fire pit. The property being adjacent to the freshwater pond was perfect for the kids, and we used the kayaks and boat every day.
The location was ideal for our vacation experience. It was close enough to the town for any shopping or activities, while still being secluded enough for privacy and quiet. We also took advantage of the walking trails and beaches that were nearby. Ted was a very gracious host, and made sure all of our needs were met.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our week at this rental, and have spoken very highly of it ever since. We hope to return soon, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing stay on The Cape.
We had never been to Cape Cod and weren’t planning on coming here until we inadvertently came across this listing. After reading all the glowing reviews, we were hooked. The cottage lived up to all expectations and then some. The house was very comfortable and well furnished. It had every amenity you could want, plus hundreds of books and a chest full of jigsaw puzzles. It sits on a secluded lot and is within 10 minutes of a wide array of restaurants, a major grocery store, pharmacy, and liquor store, as well as three golf courses and the ferry to Nantucket. We found it pricier than other rentals in the area, but in this case, you get what you pay for.
We look forward to returning.
This is by far the nicest house we have rented on the cape. The house is so warm and inviting. It offers everything you need for a perfect getaway. Being right on the Pond was so much fun for the kids (and adults). The kids loved the TV room with the window seat. It was their little hideout from the grownups. We loved the big dining room table – it was so nice to have a space where everyone could sit for meals and talk. One of the things we didn’t realize when we rented the house is the location is perfect for Cape Cod excursions. We really could get anywhere we wanted to go in 20 minutes. Ted and Pam are wonderful hosts and it was a pleasure to rent their house.
the only thing that stops me from giving this property a 5th star is that there were many lights that didn't seem to work. The rest of the time was wonderful! I especially liked the access to the pond as well as reading my book with tea on the screened in wicker porch!
We have rented this house twice and could not have been happier! The house is beautiful...renovated, beautifully furnished, well-stocked kitchen, tons of books...anything you would need for a wonderful vacation. The house is located on a beautiful fresh-water pond; your own dock with room for adults and children...beach chairs aplenty and a great outdoor shower. Ted is a wonderful host and is always available to answer questions and make recommendations for dinner reservations! We'll be back again!
We have rented this lovely house twice now and it comes highly recommended! We have three busy kids and a dog who love coming to this house. On fair weather days, the kids and dog love the water, the float, the kayaks, the tree house, the fire pit and the dock. On rainy days, there is plenty of room for everyone to find some privacy, with lots of great books and videos and board games/puzzles to explore. The kitchen is FULLY stocked with every gadget you might need and then some, and its lovely to relax at home for dinner after a full day at the beach or out exploring the Cape. The dinner table is nice and large and there is a grill for outdoor cooking. Having laundry makes the trip most enjoyable for Mom and makes packing easier for everyone! Harwich is a wonderfully quiet mid-Cape location. The off-leash dog park is walkable from the house and the National Seashore beaches are dog-friendly, on-leash. Downtown Harwich has a nice park with tennis courts and a playground and Dr. Cavity's candy store is NOT to be missed - grab a free toothbrush with your purchase :) Dogs are welcome at the Wellfleet Drive In, on the rail trail and at the Mariners game. Ted and Pam are lovely hosts and are right next door should there be any issues that need resolution. It has been our pleasure to rent this home.
Public Bocce, tennis, golf, bumper boats, bowling, duck pins, parasailing, nature tours/walks available nearby. Chatham Airport: plane trips for rental, small planes landing.
