About George

My wife and I are Alabama natives and both grew up vacationing on the gulf coast - from the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay to Panama City Beach Florida. We love being in nature and the perspective it gives to life - the sounds of the breaking waves and coastal birds and the views of the striking white sand and Gulf water.

George purchased this house in 2010

Why George chose Alabama Gulf Coast

We chose Enchanted Dunes because of the wonderful house directly overlooking the beach and the uncrowded, natural surroundings yet with plenty of amenities.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks so much for the house! It was wonderful! We hope to come back!

As Good As Pictured

  • 5 of 5

Our family consisting of 2 seniors, 6 adults, 4 children and 2 toddlers. At the last minute 4 of that number had to cancel.

This ended up being a wonderful 1st time vacation rental experience.

This house was one of the best maintained exteriors of all of the houses in the complex.

We were a little disappointed that we were told at the fitness center that it was for condo guests only. (the owner has since contacted us and assured us that we were supposed to be given a code for the fitness center by the management company).

The mattresses in a couple of the bedrooms were well worn and in need of replacement. (the owner has assured me that this problem will be addressed).

You should definitely make sure that you have what you need to treat jellyfish stings; all of our group with the exception of 2 were stung. Those effected still returned to the water.

All of the appliances were top notch, the knives were all very sharp and other than that the kitchen was better equipped than most peoples home kitchens. They even had a coffee grinder!

We will definitely rent this home again if we can fit it in our budget.

The internet speed was excellent and many of us used it at the same time with no trouble.

We could not get in on time (3pm) and were told that the previous renters did not leave on time and that they left the unit in an inordinate mess.

When you rent a home from someone you should not believe that that gives you the right to treat it like a frat house; treat it as your own.

Leave on time! Those who do not leave on time should be assessed a monetary penalty that could be given to the next renters for their inconvenience!

I have had email contact with the owner and I can assure you that he is very responsive and a great person to deal with; I wouldn't hesitate to ask him and his family over when we are there for a bar-b-que!

Wonderful place for a family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Enchaned Dunes is a lovely house and well maintained. We had 13 adults and 8 young children and the house accommodated us very comfortably. The arrangement of the bedrooms allows for some privacy if needed. And every bedroom having its own bathroom was a super bonus - plus the "powder room" down stairs. Also, having a thermostat on each floor was nice.

The porch is marvelous and is definitely an extension of the living area. Access to the beach is great and it was so convenient to be able to set up our tents and leave them up for the week. A surprise for us was the closet down stairs filled with beach toys, paddle boards, etc.!

The kitchen has two dishwashers which was perfect for us! There are also two large refrigerators - one in the kitchen and one downstairs. And the ice maker may have been everyone's favorite!

The elevator made unloading cars and loading cars much easier. We didn't really need it on a daily basis but it would be very handy for those who might.

Overall, we had a wonderful week at Enchanted Dunes. I would definitely recommend it for a family gathering or a group of couples as well - the bedroom arrangement would make that very easy and comfortable.

Toward the end of our stay the owner contacted me personally to make sure everything went well and to ask if there was anything that needed his attention. It's evident from my initial contact with him through the end of our stay that Mr. Wakefield wants to offer a quality and memorable experience for those who rent Enchanted Dunes. We think he has definitely achieved that goal!

The Enchanted Dunes home was so much more than we expected. Great view of the beach, several private decks, two dish washers and an elevator! Then, to top it off, an ice maker. Truly high tech, yet welcoming and homey. Although the beach was our major attraction, the kids and grand kids enjoyed the bar/grill across the street (did a charter fishing trip from that harbor) and the 1/2 hour drive to major fun and fun. We hated to leave and cannot wait to return. Thank you George, for sharing your home.

Exceeded Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

The house is absolutely perfect, with more room than expected! The balconies and deck are well equipped with chairs and footstools to enjoy a gorgeous view of the beach. More towels and wash clothes than you will most likely use are in the spotless 8 bathrooms.

The kitchen is one of the nicest places in the house, with so many dishes that you may not have to use the same one more than once for a week. The TWO DISHWASHERS and a separate ICE MAKER are VERY HANDY! ALL appliances are top of the line with an extra beverage cooler at entry level for easy access when bringing in food and beverages. Adequate WiFi for our 12 devices, great audio and video entertainment options, games, and books are available. The elevator to all four floors was most helpful for our group of 8 female cousins ranging from in our 50's to 70's; especially when bringing in luggage and groceries.

The location is perfect; and the soft, white sand beach with clear water is just steps from the deck. We saw dolphins every day! Tacky Jacks 2, across the highway, is a wonderful local restaurant with an exceptional staff and great food.

Suggestions to future guests: try Tacky Jacks, pick up necessities in Gulf Shores as there's not an inexpensive place to pick up items closer to the house. Sassy Bass is convenient, but limited and a just little pricey. If you are looking for relaxation, peace and quiet - this is the place and time to go!

The oil rigs on the ocean's horizon are an added bonus - very interesting watching the tankers, and the lights of the rigs are beautiful at night.

We had sunny skies and temps in the 70's and 80's every day of our visit in mid-October. The cool night breeze was comfortable with sweatshirts.

The owner and Meyers are GREAT! ABSOLUTELY SEAMLESS booking, arrival and departure. We hope to go back SOON! Highest recommendation for this house!

We highly recommend this Home.

  • 5 of 5

Our family is spread out between New York and Flordia and every year we plan a reunion of Great grandparents down to the great grand children ages from 8 to 83 there were 22 of us. Mr Wakefields house was perfect for us since my husband is in a wheelchair. We found the home clean and everything accessible to us. We so enjoyed the porches and the beautiful view. Our children enjoyed the activities around us. I must say this home was the best we ever rented and would gladly recommend it. Dorothy & Bob Facey

Another Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay. We had an even better time the 2nd time around (didn't think it was possible). Thanks so much Mr W for sharing your home. Everything was great as usual. And as one reviewer said, the pictures do not do this house justice...inside or out. This place is must-stay!! Hopefully we'll be back for our third Perfect Getaway!!

The Fort Morgan region of Gulf Shores is a less-developed and uncrowded area. Fort Morgan Rd (Highway 180) extends westward from Highway 59 along a peninsula that separates the Gulf of Mexico to the south from Bon Secour/Mobile Bay to the north. The Bon Secour wilderness preserve is along this route. There are two golf courses off of Ft Morgan Rd: Peninsula and Kiva Dunes.
