About the property

Cabin Suite, Full Kitchen, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

We have named this cozy log cabin suite the 'Wolf Den'. You will find it the most comfortable, private and yet rustic accommodations around.

The owner, Cheryl, runs the very unique store, in front. She is very friendly, accommodating and full of information. If you have never been to Silver Gate, you won't be disappointed in this magical little town. The scenery is spectacular!

I look forward to sharing and hearing the experiences of our guests. We hope to see wolf watchers, researchers, Yellowstone visitors, skiers and naturalists. All four seasons are beautiful here, featuring Yellowstone Park as our back yard.

You can find our very popular page on Facebook. Just look up Stop The Car Trading Post and hit the LIKE button. Email or call us with any questions, or if you require additional photos or information.

We will take care of you during your stay, just as we would our own family!

Why Cheryl Ciccarelli chose Montana

We love Yellowstone Park and want to exchange experiences with travelers to this magical place!

What makes this cabin unique

Silver Gate is quiet, private and purely comfortable. With Yellowstone Park one way and the Beartooth Wilderness the other, we are uniquely located to so much beauty. Cody, Wyoming is only 90 minutes away. Red Lodge, Montana is only a couple of hours by way of the Beartooth Scenic Highway. Cooke City is historic and rustic.

Notes:
Silver Gate, MT and our lodging is located one mile from the Northeast entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Lamar Valley, home of the Lamar Canyon wolf pack, is a short drive. Winter park transportation is available nearby. This unit is adjacent to our store, Stop The Car Trading Post, which is open year round and stocks fresh coffee, hot cocoa, cappuccinos, espressos, snacks, soda, juice, Montana and Silver Gate made gifts and good conversation. The area is very remote and quiet during the winter. During the summer, it's in the hub of all that Silver Gate has to offer. This rental is perfect for wolf watchers, wildlife photographers, Yellowstone Park visitors, cross country skiers and other outdoor enthusiasts.

Our favorite place to stay in Yellowstone

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was cozy, inviting and comfortable as always. We did more cooking this trip as not many places open this early for dinner. We found the kitchen to be well stocked and efficient. The owners, Cheryl and Tom are the best. We were treated to ice cream every afternoon when we returned from the park. Staying in Silver Gate allows us to be out in the Lamar area before anyone else is up and about. It was an amazing stay.

Very comfortable, but a little cold

  • 4 of 5

The Wolf Den is located at the Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone so is perfect for day trips to the Lamar Valley. It has the best stocked kitchen we have ever encountered in a rental property, and was very comfortable for the two of us. The owners are extremely helpful and nearby in case of problems. The only downside is that it is an older building, so very drafty with little insulation and gets cold. This is particularly true of the bathroom. Would stay here again.

Owner's Response: Yes, you were here at a very cold time. It is a log building and yes, the owners of the building are aware that some of the chink needs to be replaced. That will help with any drafts. So sorry about that. There is an electric heater in the bath and we should have better advised you of using that during the colder times of the year. So glad you stayed with us and got to experience the winter season, up here.

Our Winter x-country skiing/snowshoe escape was much apppreciated!

  • 4 of 5

The Wolf's Den cabin was very clean and cozy. The supply of cooking utensils and pots/pans was impressive! As was the owners supply of essential provisions. Although the thermostat was a little touchy, we stayed warm and cozy. Having a Bison walk by the window as we were eating breakfast was quite a suprise! We suspect that the batteries in the smoke alarms/CO detectors might need changing since one of the units kept beeping. We would recommend this cabin to friends and relatives, especially as it was pet-friendly. We enjoyed x-country skiing and snowshoeing right out the doorway,, as well as several locations in Yellowstone Park and the wildlife viewing throughout the area was wonderful with Bison and a Moose hanging around just outside the cabin!

The Wolf Den was very comfortable and charming.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the Wolf Den. It was very comfortable and welcoming. We were there for Thanksgiving week, so the Stop The Car store was closed and we were not able to sample the coffee or ice cream, but the wolf watching was only a short drive away. Spectacular scenery.

LOVED our time at the Wolf's Den

  • 5 of 5

This was our third time visiting the Yellowstone area and our first time spending time in Silver Gate. I'll start by saying we will most definitely be spending time at the Wolf's Den on all future trips. We have stayed at multiple areas just outside the park and several hotels within...they are all great and have their own charms, but our stay at the Wolf's Den was our best experience yet. For starters it provides the easiest access to the Lamar Valley, which happens to be our favorite part of the park (we find it to be the most beautiful and the most full of life). On this trip we saw wolves, grizzly, and moose all within a few miles of our cabin. The Wolf's Den itself was perfectly cozy and clean with all the comforts one would need. The decor was exactly what I would think of in a Yellowstone cabin and we felt much more relaxed when we came back in the evenings as there is so much more space as compared to a typical hotel room. Cheryl (the owner) was a pleasure to work with and took time out of her day to recover some items we left behind and make sure they were returned safely. Lastly, we really enjoyed the area itself. All the locals were extremely nice!!! Be sure to spend some time in the Silver Gate area and book your stay at the Wolf's Den!

Wolf watching nearby! It would not be unusual to see moose, elk, fox or bison outside your door! We are only one mile from the Northeast gate to Yellowstone Park. Cooke City is only three miles up the road, which leads to the Beartooth Scenic Highway and Red Lodge, as well as the Chief Joesph Scenic Highway. Silver Gate is also the favorite gateway to Lamar Valley.
