Because the house is thoughtfully designed, well equipped and full of character you will fall in love with this vacation home. Our guests all agree. The well-appointed kitchen has granite counters and all the spices, cookware, wine glasses and matching place settings you need. An open floor plan with beautiful wood floors, exposed wood beam ceilings and glass wall overlooking the river, create a delightful gathering spot.
We provide wireless DSL high speed internet and a house phone. We're close enough to the coast for nature’s moderating effect, yet inland enough to be out of the fog and cold winds when they arise. Our idyllic micro-climate provides moderate temperatures in both summer and winter.
Imagine yourself lounging on the redwood deck, soaking in the hot tub watching life float past on the river or reading a book next to the wood burning stove in the day-lit living room. From your home nestled amongst giant Redwoods on and overlooking the beautiful Russian River, you can meander down to your floating redwood dock & private river access, a favorite fishing spot for Otters, Osprey and Great Blue Herons among other wildlife.
The peaceful Russian River is clear, cool and inviting. A canoe, two kayaks and life-vests are provided for you to explore this natural wonderland. A gorgeous ten-minute drive along the Russian River towards the coast brings you to Jenner and River’s End. You will experience the best of California at the sightseeing attractions, charming towns and beautiful parks close to this ultimate location. In the summer the river is a popular swimming and festival spot for San Franciscans. In the winter the Pacific keeps the climate mild and is popular for whale watching.
This is California's premier wine country with many top vineyard tours in close proximity. You will want to move here once you visit. We'll provide a map of little-known, stunning scenic drives to the coast where you can walk the beaches & coastal bluffs. The landmark Sonoma Coast State Park and Goat Rock are at the mouth of the river. Here you can walk the beach and visit the sea lions that usually lounge where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean.
With two decks, outdoor fireplace and hot tub, the house is a great get-away for a couple, and can comfortably accommodate up to five couples. Families with children will enjoy the yard and private river access. The propane outdoor grill, quality cookware, spices, teas and condiments will make the chef in your group happy. The living room has stunning views of the river through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Certificate # 594N

I love to travel and moved to California from Philadelphia in 2001. This area has just about everything. There is still so much I haven't done here; it makes it hard to leave.
Chris McCook purchased this house in 2005
I was amazed by the natural beauty here; the redwood trees, the coast, the river, the mountains, and the people.
I love hiking and mountain biking on the trails right out the front door or going for a canoe or kayak ride and swim on the river right outside the back door. Of course a fire or the hot tub is great in the evenings and barbecuing on the deck while watching the wildlife on the river is very relaxing.
Chis thought of everything; pots pans, baking items, games, bbq, washer dryer , boats, life vests everything a family could need to enjoy the river and did I mention the hot tub. It was Awesome.
I booked this home with a group of 12 friends for a weekend of relaxation and some wine tasting. The location was close enough to some wineries where we did not have to spend too much time travelling (Korbel Winery was only 9 miles away!). When we first arrived at the house we were extremely impressed by the gorgeous views of the Russian River. The fire was lit when we arrived setting an immediately cozy atmosphere. The house was very well stocked with kitchen supplies, great for our group of 12 who enjoy home-cooked meals. We were also excited about the out door grill which made for an awesome bbq dinner night! The house was clean, spacious and welcoming. The bed was one of the comfiest I've slept in. The hot tub was clean and perfect to come home to after a day of winter hiking. We also loved all of the dragons throughout the house!!! Our group had one of the most fun, relaxing and memorable getaways yet. Thank you so much Chris for letting us stay in your beautiful home! We saw the boats and life-vests and hope to come back sometime in the summer :)!
Loved the view from the living room onto the lake. Thank you so much for having boats for us to ride the river with; it really made the weekend very memorable.
We had a wonderful, cozy, luxurious time at the Dragon's Lair! A group of friends and I celebrated our birthdays there and it couldn't have been better: the view from the living room, the cozy and comfortable bedrooms (with lots of extra room in the downstairs room), the well-equipped kitchen, the fireplace, the hot tub under the redwoods and the dock with canoes and kayaks all made it the perfect place for us. I would highly recommend staying there! The owner is also very conscientious and accommodating...we have no complaints!
Problems at this property were immediate. First, the password emailed to us with stay instructions did not work, Evidently the owner had replaced the lock and didnt update. This caused us considerable grief trying to enter. 2 calls to both emergency numbers went into voice mail.
I circumnavigated the property looking for another way in. To my surprise, the sliding door to the living room was open. I was able to let my wife and six other guests in.
That door was broken, would not close properly and could not be locked.
I received a call from the owner 15-20 minutes after we arrived. He informed me to try a hammer on the slider to fix and apologized for the miscommunication on password. This was the beginning of more things to come.
My dog made a mess of her water bowl. I cleaned the area around it and was disgusted by the dirt that had been accumulated on the paper towels. Clearly, these floors hadnt been mopped in quite some time.
Later we used the BBQ only to find the greasy remnants from the prior guests stay. As we cleaned after dinner, the dishwasher malfunctioned and we had to clean and try by hand. We took the garbage out only to find both refuse cans completely full.
I called Chris the owner the next day. A full 4 hours lapsed before a return call. He sent his house keeper over to clean grill and reset dishwasher but no attempt to fix sliding door, which remained inoperable during our entire stay.
The egress to the dock is difficult to navigate and dangerous for young children or seniors. The dock itself is wobbly, difficult to stand and is an additional danger.
Lastly,a sizeable portion of our security deposit was retained . How does one account for cleaning when no standard for cleanliness has been established?
Chris your home was perfect for our family vacation
I will say that your online description needs to be updated its is far better than Represented. It exceeded all of our expectations.
