Because the house is thoughtfully designed, well equipped and full of character you will fall in love with this vacation home. Our guests all agree. The well-appointed kitchen has granite counters and all the spices, cookware, wine glasses and matching place settings you need. An open floor plan with beautiful wood floors, exposed wood beam ceilings and glass wall overlooking the river, create a delightful gathering spot.
We provide wireless DSL high speed internet and a house phone. We're close enough to the coast for nature’s moderating effect, yet inland enough to be out of the fog and cold winds when they arise. Our idyllic micro-climate provides moderate temperatures in both summer and winter.
Imagine yourself lounging on the redwood deck, soaking in the hot tub watching life float past on the river or reading a book next to the wood burning stove in the day-lit living room. From your home nestled amongst giant Redwoods on and overlooking the beautiful Russian River, you can meander down to your floating redwood dock & private river access, a favorite fishing spot for Otters, Osprey and Great Blue Herons among other wildlife.
The peaceful Russian River is clear, cool and inviting. A canoe, two kayaks and life-vests are provided for you to explore this natural wonderland. A gorgeous ten-minute drive along the Russian River towards the coast brings you to Jenner and River’s End. You will experience the best of California at the sightseeing attractions, charming towns and beautiful parks close to this ultimate location. In the summer the river is a popular swimming and festival spot for San Franciscans. In the winter the Pacific keeps the climate mild and is popular for whale watching.
This is California's premier wine country with many top vineyard tours in close proximity. You will want to move here once you visit. We'll provide a map of little-known, stunning scenic drives to the coast where you can walk the beaches & coastal bluffs. The landmark Sonoma Coast State Park and Goat Rock are at the mouth of the river. Here you can walk the beach and visit the sea lions that usually lounge where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean.
With two decks, outdoor fireplace and hot tub, the house is a great get-away for a couple, and can comfortably accommodate up to five couples. Families with children will enjoy the yard and private river access. The propane outdoor grill, quality cookware, spices, teas and condiments will make the chef in your group happy. The living room has stunning views of the river through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Certificate # 594N

About Chris McCook
I love to travel and moved to California from Philadelphia in 2001. This area has just about everything. There is still so much I haven't done here; it makes it hard to leave.
Chris McCook purchased this House in 2005
Why Chris McCook chose Monte Rio
I was amazed by the natural beauty here; the redwood trees, the coast, the river, the mountains, and the people.
What makes this House unique
I love hiking and mountain biking on the trails right out the front door or going for a canoe or kayak ride and swim on the river right outside the back door. Of course a fire or the hot tub is great in the evenings and barbecuing on the deck while watching the wildlife on the river is very relaxing.

AWESOME place to rent.
Chis thought of everything; pots pans, baking items, games, bbq, washer dryer , boats, life vests everything a family could need to enjoy the river and did I mention the hot tub. It was Awesome.
Great house & location.
The house is very comfortable and well appointed. Chris has thought of a lot of good amenities that enhance the experience. We will definitely return.
Wildlife galore, and a well-equipped kitchen!
Such a lovely place! The house itself is great and well-suited for a large group (we had a total of 9 people), with lots of flexibility for who sleeps where, and the beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed watching the wildlife from the deck and from inside because the windows are so massive -- saw tons of birds, of course, but also sea lions (we think) making excursions up the river, which was wonderful. We paddled up the river a bit by canoe as well, which was nice to do in the off season -- didn't see a single person.
One thing that is really nice about this property is the quality of the kitchen equipment/utensils, which really matters for serious cooks. The kitchen is stocked with extremely solid kitchen gadgets, plenty of nice bowls of all sizes, and Cuisinart cookware. No junky rental house pans with flaking teflon, no rooting around for a crappy bottle opener that might or might not be stocked, no icky cheap salad bowls! This kind of attention to quality makes all the difference for me and my friends...we hope to go back soon!
Great location on the river
House accomodated 12 of us well for my mother's 70th. Beds were very comfortable, kitchen well equipped and outdoor areas very pleasant.
Beautiful home on the river!
Lots of space! Beds we're comfortable, home was clean. Close to town and hikes, all around wonderful. Would definitely go back.
Beauty, comfort, convenience
Beautiful setting - mornings were especially enjoyable with fog in the trees and over the river. Great location with easy access to all the conveniences of home but packaged in small town character. The house is very comfortable and fully stocked with everything needed. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
