Casa de e'Smith is an open floor plan home amidst the rain-forest adjacent to Carara National Park. Views of the ocean from most rooms. There is a small river below at the bottom of the property. Poolside deck and terrace offers views of the rain-forest flora, fauna and of course the spectacular sunsets that will amaze you. Macaws fly over daily, Toucans stopping by on occasion, the butterflies... just try and count them! You can see it all from your fabulous private deck that wraps around the back of the house. Keep your camera close by and don't forget your binoculars! Casa de e'Smith's is a nature lovers paradise. Again, don't go without your camera, and binoculars there is always, always something to see.
Jaco Beach is a short 20 min. drive to the South, all the night life you can ask for, during the day a surfer's paradise, zip lines, ATV's and nature tours. In between lots of great restaurants with fresh seafood and local fare. Bill-fishing on the 'blue' out of Los Suenos is one of best deep sea fishing spots on the planet. There is something for everyone.

Ron and Vicki Smith, Ron is from the U.K and Vicki is from Australia, residing in Southern California. We love to travel, cook and entertain friends and family.
Ron Smith purchased this house in 2008
'Pura Vida' mingling with the nicest people on earth!
We fell in love with the local 'Ticos', the area. Decided on this house for its unique design and location close to so many fun and adventurous things to do! All of which can be shared with you.
How can you combine vacationing next to nature, in the forest/jungle/trees, seeing the ocean and hearing the river and not being totally awed by 'Mother Nature'! No better experience!
We traveled to Casa Smith this passed March Break and were blown away by the beauty of the property and upkeep, it looks exactly like it does in the photos when you arrive and like the other reviews, much wildlife right off the balcony! We traveled with our 11 year old daughter, and 12 and 16 year old boys and enjoyed every minute. Surfing and boogy boarding in Jaco was amazing were you could also rent umbrellas and sun chairs. We also visited the rainfall and hiked up and swam in the water there which is so close to the Casa, and toured the 'crocodile' bridge close by. We hiked into Carrera National Park and we in awe of the playing monkeys (capuchins) and entertained with them eating bananas! We ziplined in near Jaco as well on 12 different lines coming down the mountaint- only about 25 minute drive away as well. So much to do and see, or just relax by your very private pool ( which was cleaned twice while we were there) Calm serenity or adventure, whatever you desire is at your fingertips! Pura Vida! Thanks so much for all your help Ron!
This home is like a piece of paradise. The morning wake up calls from the macaws, aracaris, toucans, was like waking up in a dream. Ron and Vicki provided us with all of the relevant information required to allow our trip run smoothly. Within a short drive of the local grocer, markets, and some great dining. We ate well, travelled well, and stayed in a luxury home. So much to see in this beautiful country. We cannot wait to go back! Thanks to Ron and Vicki for opening your home to our family so we could have a trip of a lifetime.
Took me a while to post this review, but it's a busy world. My family and I had a wonderful stay at this house over our kids' spring break. We have two boys, ages 6 and 9. The house was perfect for us. We came to Costa Rica to see wildlife, and we had almost as much luck birding around the house as we did on our hikes. From the house we saw Scarlet Macaws, Trogons, Toucans, and so many others. The place is centrally located for many outdoor activities. We spent a day at the beach, and many days on the trails. The pool was great. The house is modern and comfortable. We certainly hope to be back.
Our family (myself, my husband, and our 3 children, ages 9-12) recently stayed at Case de e’Smith. There was plenty of room, and privacy, for everyone. The kids enjoyed everything from the Wi-Fi to the pool, while my husband and I enjoyed early morning to late night on the balcony overlooking the forest and all of its wildlife. There was a particular hummingbird that perched just off of the porch. We later discovered that she was nesting in the mango tree beside the deck, and we could watch her keeping her babies warm when she roosted from the master bedroom balcony. In addition to the several types of hummingbirds, we saw scarlet macaws every morning and evening, as well as aracari, cuckoos, and many, many more birds I could not identify. Butterflies where everywhere during the day, and there were huge moths, nighthawks, and bats to watch at night.
We assumed that mosquitoes would be a problem, but were pleasantly surprised to not be bothered by them at all—even in the middle of the rainy season. In fact, our entire stay at Casa de e’Smith exceeded our expectations. We really enjoyed all the comforts the inside and outside of the house offered, and while the listing does not show any pictures of the kitchen, it is just as beautiful as the rest of the house, and it (and the dining room and its balcony) has a fantastic view of the forest and the ocean beyond.
Ron and Vicky gave us some great advice for negotiating our Costa Rican vacation. Their directions helped us get through the airport and navigate the surprisingly easy drive from the airport to Tarcoles. David helped my husband become oriented with the town, and we were easily able to acquire supplies for our stay.
Overall, I cannot emphasize enough how amazing this house was. It was comfortable, secure, and convenient. The view was spectacular, the wildlife and birdsong was amazing, and we cannot wait until our next vacation at Casa de e’Smith.
Recently returned from our visit to Ron and Vicki's wonderful home. Our stay there was truly a dream, home is beautiful, comfortable and nestled in lush forest surroundings.
Waking up each morning to the sounds of the forrest was wonderful. Ron was so helpful with planing our trip before hand and David, the house manager, could not do more for us to help our family have a wonderful first visit to Costa Rica. We walked through Carrera National Park, did zip-line canopy tour in Los Suenos, spent the day at Manuel Antonio National Park, took an ATV tour into mountains, a boat trip to Isla Torguga and still had time for some relaxation at the beach and an afternoon sunning around the pool at home. Sunset dinner at Villa Calleta is not to be missed. We found the home perfectly located for all our adventures and travel was trouble free. We can't thank Ron enough for helping our family have such a wonderful vacation.
We were so fortunate to spend eight days in Ron and Vickie's home in Costa Rica only a mile or two from Carara National Park. All I can say is it couldn't have been better. Ron was so helpful for advice about activities.....best beaches, restaurants, croc tours, and national park hikes with monkeys and sloths. And the home is amazing with almost total privacy, yet in a gated development. The closest neighbor was several hundred feet away and a hundred vertical feet below you with beautiful jungle in between. The house itself was beautiful with virtually as much floor to ceiling glass as solid wall and sits up high on the side of a hill for watching the sunset over the ocean. The pool and deck were perfect for relaxing...a dip in the pool to get nice and cool and then sit back with a drink and some conversation and wait for the beautiful birds to come to you. Too many times you see homes with high ratings and they usually turn out to be nice places to stay, but only once in maybe 10 or 15 homes fit the vacation so well you need a rating above excellent. You don't feel like you're in a gated community, you realize your in the jungle... with amenities! Anyway what can I say...we've probably rented 30+ homes over the last 10 years and I can honestly say this ranks up there with the absolute best of them.
Crocodile river tours, Butterflies, Birds, National Parks, Canopy tour, ATV Jungle tour, Zip-lines, White Water Rafting, Bill-fishing. Snorkeling, fishing and hiking are available.
