About the Owners of The Fairplay Chalet:: The Fairplay Chalet is a dream come true for two professionals who longed for a peaceful and relaxing weekend getaway close to great ski resorts, hiking and fishing yet within easy driving distance from the Denver Metro area. After searching hundreds of properties in Summit and Park Counties, the owners purchased land in South Park and set out to build their dream cabin in the mountains, which they finished themselves in 2008.
The fruits of this laborious effort - an aesthetically appealing mountain retreat that is too good not to share with others. The large deck is great for sipping morning coffee and bird watching. In the evening, relax by one of two fireplaces with a cup of hot cocoa. Read a book in the Loft Library. Play foosball, shuffleboard, darts or watch a movie. After relaxing in the cabin, step outside to enjoy numerous activities in winter and summer from snowshoeing and sledding out the back door to hiking 14ers and fishing gold medal waters just minutes away.

We highly recommend the Fairplay Chalet. This beautiful cabin in the mountains is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty. Shannon thought of everything you would need during your stay. We loved returning to the cabin each day after skiing to cook dinner, play games and just enjoy being in such a beautiful place. My husband and I, along with 2 other a couples, stayed 4 nights completely comfortable with plenty of space for all. The chalet truly feels like a retreat. We would love to return in the summer time.
The property was absolutely beautiful. The house was very charming, and felt like a home. It was obvious that the owners have invested their hearts into the cabin. It was extremely comfortable and cozy! We hope to return and make it a tradition to spend our holidays here.
We stayed here for 4 nights, and we loved every minute at the cabin! There was so much snow and we loved the cabin so much that we didn't venture out but one time to go to Breckenridge. The views from all around were breathtaking! Chains were a MUST to access this property, and even with chains it was rough at times, due to record breaking snow. The photos on VRBO do not do this place justice - extremely clean and the owner thought of everything, from robes and slippers, to a bottle of wine. We want to try to come back during the summertime. I would recommend this cabin to everyone!!
Being from New York my family and I were looking for that unique mountain living experience and this cabin did not disappoint. It was very clean and came with tons of extras that made our stay even that much more enjoyable. It has 3 bathrooms on 3 floors and offered plenty of room for the 6 adults that were staying there. We made great use of the grill and game room and just overall loved the cozy mountain atmosphere. If you are looking for a high quality cabin up high in the mountains you do not have to look any further!
We stayed at the Mountain Getaway with our family (3 generations - 6 people) and there was plenty of room to spread out. We got a lot of information beforehand since the owners aren't living close by and we didn't meet them during our stay. They made sure though that we got there alright and felt comfortable during our stay. If you consider renting the Mountain Getaway you just need to know that it is a little far from everything - 5 miles up the hill from Fairplay, mostly gravel road. So we spent a lot of extra time in the car... (unfortunately it took us even longer to Buena Vista and Salida due to road construction.) Also be aware that you are high up in the mountains - we had some trouble falling asleep due of the altitude...
The property was beautiful not too secluded but nice! The cabin itself...the pictures online do not do justice to how nice the cabin truly is. Shannon has gone out of her way to be so accommodating and attention to every detail. The owners were very responsive to any questions or concerns.
The cabin is in a perfect location to get to Fairplay and Alma with decent fishing at Montgomery Reservoir. We enjoyed horseback riding at Platte Ranch Stables. We hope to visit the cabin during snow season to take in the scenery in the snow. Thanks again for sharing!
The pictures don't do this cabin justice. Our group was all pleasantly surprised at how nice and peaceful. Great starting point to go hiking, head into Breck, or simply relax at the cabin and make a fire in the outside fire pit. The owner was very helpful and responsive. We all plan to come back again. Thanks Shannon!
