In the fabulous Lettered Streets neighborhood, across the street from a park, near numerous coffee shops, restaurants, music venues, etc, sits a lovely daylight basement apartment. Walk up to our large home on a double lot, through the gate and follow the walkway to the left to your private entrance where you'll enter into a bright and colorful basement with big windows. You'll find a living room through the archway to the right, dining area to the left, and then pass through the fully stocked kitchen to the generous bathroom, laundry room and finally the hallway to two beautiful bedrooms with those great windows again.
You are welcome to enjoy the yard with gardens, swings, playhouse, tables and BBQ. Don't forget the park across the street!
Our active family lives upstairs. During waking hours you will certainly hear us. Sometimes we'll be louder than others. With all the events and activities of the kids, we (or most of us) are often gone and the house will be completely quiet. We've had numerous guests (we ran the upstairs, main house as a busy VRBO for several years) and tenants who have used and lived in this space and found it completely fine. You are always welcome to come upstairs and join in the fun, if (on the very rare occasion) there appears to be a party going on. (Party dates are typically blocked out so that guests are not disturbed.) We do our best to keep things quiet after 9 pm and don't typically start up again before 7 am. It's easy for us to avoid the areas above your bedrooms during sleeping hours.
The nice thing is that we are on site to assist you with anything you need. You are welcome to interact with us as you choose or retreat to your private space.
The Bellingham Lettered Streets is a fantastic neighborhood. Filled with charming homes, you will see people strolling about everywhere. We can point you in the direction of lots of Bellingham icons (Rocket Donuts, Old Town Cafe, Lettered Streets Coffeehouse, Elizabeth Park, Mt. Baker Theater, Whatcom Museum, etc.), all within walking distance. We are right in between two major bus lines.
Our little kitty, Luna, is very friendly and loves to find comfortable places to sleep. We do our best to keep her out of your space, but she would be happy to meet you.
You will find that many of our reviews speak to the big house upstairs. Our more recent guests who have stayed in the new smaller space downstairs have given us similar happy endorsements. We hope you'll come stay with us and enjoy your time in Bellingham!
We are Trevor and Sarah vanWoerden, high school sweethearts, who purchased Sarah's childhood home from her parents to raise a family and continue the amazing memories this tremendous house allows.
Sarah vanWoerden purchased this apartment in 2002
Our wedding, numerous birthday parties, holiday celebrations, and regular, everyday life have happened here. It serves us well and we wish to open part of it to allow you and your family to create your own memories here. It's too great not to share. Enjoy!
This home is very clean, organized, well stocked and comfortable. It is also in a great location. Our family really enjoyed our visit!
My husband and I came to Bellingham for our 50th High School Reunion. Sarah and Trevor's rental unit was the ideal choice for our stay! Our week was perfect in every way! The apartment was spotless, spacious, comfortable and meticulously stocked! Its location, close to downtown and the waterfront, makes it a walkers paradise. The owners were delightful and helpful.
I couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay in Bellingham. My family really enjoyed the proximity to all of the things that we love about Bellingham. However, more importantly, this "basement" was beautifully appointed with everything we needed to have a relaxing stay. We love to cook and were really excited that it had a fully appointed kitchen--I mean we had everything we needed to put together tasty meals (spices, too!). The beds were comfortable, the linens clean, and everything was the way it should be.
I wouldn't hesitate to rent here again.
My parents and I shared this space for 5 days/nights and found it to be perfect for us. The few stairs were manageable for my mom and the handrails were secure. There was room for here walker and plenty of seating for her to find a comfortable spot. It had all the amenities it stated & the decorations were colorful and fun. Lots of light in the living room made it NOT feel like a basement apt. The grassy area with bistro table & chairs was a bonus on the sunny days, and parking was never a problem. Plus there is a small park across the street that was perfect for walking the dog. The owners were kind and helpful, and we felt welcomed and comfortable. I highly recommend this property!
What a find! Everything was perfect. Comfy beds, cozy living room, cheery well equipped kitchen
We spent 3 nights here with our 1 and 3 year old and had an excellent time. The space was great for a family. Nothing breakable for the kids and they had dominoes. The kitchen was fully stocked, so we were able to cook, but we also ordered pizza. The kids loved the park across the street, and I loved the coffee shop that was a block away. If we ever visit again we'd definitely stay here.
Within close walking distance to numerous parks, coffee shops, restaurants, shopping and entertainment.
