This fourth floor condo at the Kihei Surfside Resort is on the sought after ocean side of the elevator. It has a spectacular view from the kitchen, living room, dining area and lanai. Even though it was completely repainted and refurnished in October 2012, the owner plans to do a complete remodel in the summer of 2016, as the improvements have entered the last chapter of their useful life. Despite that , the unit is clean and functional and shows well as the interior is predominantly neutral colors.

The kitchen has ceramic tile, with white cabinets, Corian counters and is well equipped with a side by side refrigerator with ice maker and water dispenser, flat top stove with microwave hood fan above, full size dishwasher and garbage disposer.

The living room is carpeted (new Apr 2011), and has a queen size sofa-bed with matching large comfy armchair, swivel-rocker bucket chair and love seat. There is also a large flat screen LCD color TV, stereo and multi speed ceiling fan.

The entry hall is tiled, with a large dresser and desk area with free high speed internet (ethernet and wi-fi) and free long distance calling to the United States and Canada.

The bedroom is carpeted and has a new (Apr 2011) King size Sealy Posturepedic pillow-top bed, multi speed ceiling fan and Hawaiian style mahogany furniture.

The master bathroom has a full size, walk in shower and vanity with granite countertop. The half bath is tastefully decorated with a granite countertop.

The unit is fully equipped with utensils, fresh linens and towels, iron/ironing board, hairdryer, beach chairs, beach towels and a cooler. Umbrellas, boogie boards and snorkel gear are not supplied, but are often left behind in the units by other guests – no guarantees.

This unit is an excellent choice for guests who are looking for a spacious, comfortable budget priced oceanfront condo with a spectacular view.

Kihei Surfside Resort is located at 2936 S. Kihei Road, South Kihei at the entrance of beautiful Wailea. This is the desert part of Maui, where the sun shines more than any other part of the island. The Kihei Surfside Resort consists of an absolute oceanfront concrete building of 6 floors and 84 deluxe units with an elevator. There is free parking on site. The resort is a twenty-five minute drive from the Kahului Airport (OGG). Rental cars are available at the airport or in Kihei town. There are also taxis available at the airport (about $50), a shuttle bus and public transportation.

Virtually all of the properties and resorts in Kihei are either located right on busy S. Kihei Rd., or if they are set back from the road - are across from the street from the ocean. One unique feature of the Kihei Surfside is that it is located at the quiet end of S. Kihei Road, AND is set back 300 feet from S. Kihei Road AND is located right on the ocean! Because it is hard to see from the road, many first time Surfside guests say that even though they have visited Kihei many times, they had never seen the resort!

Another unique feature of the property is that we have a 2 acre, immaculately kept oceanfront lawn area with dozens of loungers, with a heated swimming pool and deluxe barbeque facilities. In season, there are daily whale sightings from both the grounds and lanais. In fact, the Pacific Whale Foundation conducts their annual whale count from our property. The building is located at the north end of Keawakapu Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on Maui, where you can walk for miles past some of the most expensive oceanfront homes on the island and the luxurious hotels of Wailea, including the Grand Wailea Hotel. It is customary for the residents of the Kihei Surfside to gather each evening for cocktails on the shore near the tiki torches for a traditional Hawaiian sundown ceremony. Feel free to join in - this is a great opportunity to meet your neighbours and fellow vacationers!

There are two very nice oceanfront restaurants within 100 yards of the resort; the Five Palms and Sarentos on the Beach. You can see other close by restaurants on this map.

Right across the parking lot from the Surfside is an upscale deli/grocery/wine store, Zach’s . Other larger grocery stores in Kihei, a short drive from the resort are Safeway, Foodland and Star Market.

The island also has a Costco, Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Sears.

There is never any shortage of things to do on Maui. The Shops at Wailea, Wailea Golf Club, Wailea Tennis Club and Makena Golf Club are within a five minute drive. The Kihei boat ramp is located 100 yards north of the property. Several of the tour operators for snorkelling and diving launch here. See Maui Dive Shop, Makena Coast Dive Charters, and Blue Water Rafting. Maalaea harbour is a 20 minute drive, and from there you would get the fishing charters and sunset dinner cruises, or visit the Maui Ocean Center. The old whaling town of Lahaina is a 45 minute drive, from there you can ride on the Atlantis Submarine, or go for a boat trip with the Pacific Whale Foundation. Helicopter tours are available from the airport. See Blue Hawaiian Helicopters or Air Maui. Feeling adventurous? Try riding a bike down Mount Haleakala - Haleakala Bike Company. For exercise enthusiasts, there are a couple of gyms nearby – Powerhouse Gym, Valley Isle Fitness, and Pilates Maui. There is also a yoga studio Maui Yoga Path right across the parking lot.

We are convinced this property offers the best value and location for oceanfront accommodation in the south Kihei/Wailea area. All of the units are direct oceanfront, and the property has the most amazing oceanfront lawn area spanning over 2 acres, which is unique to our property. The best part about the Surfside are the friendly, happy people, and the great accommodating staff!

What makes this condo unique

The property is located right at the north end of world famous Keawakapu Beach. It is one of the finest white sand beaches anywhere. It stretches for miles past some of the most expensive homes and hotels in all of Maui. Great for walking or running. We enjoy walking the beach each morning, and spending time some time there soaking up some morning sun and swimming/snorkeling in the warm ocean. When we want some quieter time, we spend time on the oceanfront lawn. The grass is like a putting green - many people reach down to feel it to see if it is real - it looks like carpet! It is a great place to soak up some sun, read a great book, watch the whales, dolphins and turtles or catch a nap! There is a reef right at our property that has the most amazing snorkeling we have seen anywhere. Unlike most other oceanfront properties in Kihei, the Surfside is perched right on the sea shore, set back several hundred feet from S. Kihei Road, so you hear the ocean, not the road noise. The complex has two high end stainless steel barbeques and picnic tables right at the ocean. Almost every night, we use the barbeque and eat our dinner at the oceanfront lit by tiki torches.

Perfect vacation spot!

This was our 3rd time at Kihei Surfside and first time in Unit 404. This is a wonderful location right on the ocean. The building is well maintained and Rosie's Rentals was great to deal with. The unit was clean and well stocked with beach chairs, snorkelling gear, etc. New dishwasher and microwave. There are new sliders and screen doors on all the units. We love this place and will be back next year!

Love KS but NOT this unit!

We've stayed at KS many times and have loved it. However, the last two times have been less than desirable. We recently returned from a 10 day stay. We were hoping for a nice, clean unit but were disappointed. The unit was filthy, especially the kitchen, which should be spotless. The cupboards were grimy and were stinky when opened. The outside of the refer was dirty, the microwave over the range was broken and was replaced by a chintzy small one on the counter. The dishwasher was disgustingly dirty and broken also. The under cabinet lighting was non-working so that the only lighting was in the ceiling. At night, working in the kitchen was like working in the dark. It was a horrible situation. The sofa and loveseat were filthy and the bamboo arms were sticky. The arms on the chairs of the dining set were sticky also. The TV remote did not work properly. This unit needs a deep, deep cleaning and a facelift, replacement of furniture, including the two chairs and table on the lanai. They were rusty with chipped paint and uncomfortable to sit on. The master bath shower doors were so laden with soap scum that it was impossible to see through them. They need to be replaced. The only redeeming feature of this unit was the very nice bedroom furniture. It looked to be fairly new and very pretty. With all this said, we would never stay in this unit again and would never recommend it for anyone.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately, this guest did not bring the condition of the unit to our attention prior to check out, when she told the building manager that she was not satisfied, and through her review. The owner requested and paid for a "deep clean" in November 2015. A deep clean is when the cleaners spend considerable additional time cleaning areas of the unit that do not receive attention on the every day turnover cleans. This work is typically done twice a year. It seems the work done by the cleaning crew was not thorough. This segment of the negative experience could have been rectified had the guest brought this to our attention as soon as the problem was discovered.. The unit is scheduled to have a major remodel in the summer of 2016. As a result of this review, the owner has decided to expedite the purchase of a microwave and dishwasher. The reviewer incorrectly described the shower door as having "soap scum". In fact the water in Hawaii is very hard and leaves water marks on glass. This needs to be removed by having the surface of the doors restored on a periodic basis. The owner has ordered this service be done. The unit is described as having an older remodel and the décor being near the end of its useful life, and is priced accordingly.

Surfside Nice...Unit iOutdated/Misrepresented

This unit is WAY OUTDATED. My wife said it looked like furnishings were from a garage sale in 1983. All white whicker furniture, etc. Patio door out to lanai was constantly coming off track (don't know how many times i had to answer the "honey, come and fix this again!" call). One screen had a big hole in it-discovered that after the first night after about 50 buggies flew in through it. One of the hinges on a cabinet door in the kitchen was messed up and always looked like it was ready to fall off the wall. So decor gets about a D-. Not much aloha for sure. All appliances did work. Wife was upset because of no basic spices, etc available to make basic meals (a little salt and pepper was it!!) Also this room was misrepresented, which is my biggest problem here. Owner stated that there were booogie boards and a cooler in the room . We showed up, and having 2 kids who would be in the water 24-7, they were REALLY disappointed that there were no boogie boards in the room as advertised. My wife and i are really not picky, but this is something we were counting on, so we called the owners on-island contact right away. She did get back to us in a few hours and told us to just go buy 2 boogie boards at costco and she would reimburse us cash for them when she was in the area in a few days. Groovy-made the drive to Costco (even though we were just there a few hours ago), picked up 2 boards, and everyone was happy. After 2 days or so, we began our usual trek to other beaches-discovered then there was NO COOLER as was advertised by the owner. This did leave us a little upset, as this was the 2nd thing that wasn't correct about the unit. Soooo, picked up a cooler at Longs for 40 bucks, left the on-island contact a note explaining the situation and the reciept for the cooler along with the boogie board receipt, hoping to get reimbursed for cooler as well. No dice-got 90 bucks for the boards but no 40 for the cooler. Contacted owner upon return-emailed him a picture of the cooler/boogie boards in the room and explained what happened. He would not reimburse us for the cooler w/o a receipt (which i didn't have as i gave it to his on-island contact!) Left with a sour taste in my mouth as we spent time/$/gas running around on my vacation for stuff not in the room as stated. Thought i should have been reimbursed with a "sorry" and "thank you for spending your vacation time picking these things up".

Owner's Response: This review is from an upset guest who was angry that we refused his request to reimburse him $40 for a cooler that he claimed he purchased for the unit (without our permission). We did offer to reimburse him, but it was conditional that he provide a receipt, as it seemed the $40 he was claiming very high for the small cooler. He could not provide a receipt, so we did not reimbuse him. It is true that at the time of his stay, the unit had not been updated in quite some time, but the condition of the unit was clearly described in the listing. Since then, the unit was completely repainted and refurnished in October 2013.
