About Ted Gogol
In the early 1980s we moved away from Michigan for jobs, settling in Maryland near Washington, DC where we raised our two wonderful children. As empty nesters, in the summer of 2008, we started what we thought would be a 5-year search for our dream retirement home back in Michigan, on a lake, halfway between Chicago and Detroit -- where all of Brenda's family have homes. In our very first house-hunting trip in June 2008 we came across a beautifully restored 1935 craftsman house on 3 acres; it exceeded our expectations in every conceivable way. It's a dream come true for us that in one short year became a mecca for family gatherings. In 2010 a 47-acre wooded parcel became available that surrounds the 3 acres and which included 150 feet of lake frontage...we were able to acquire it and build the Knotty Pine Lodge right on the water. We hope you will consider staying here at Stone Lake to build your own wonderful family memories. -- Ted & Brenda

Why Ted Gogol chose LaGrange
Cassopolis, Michigan with its two lakes -- Stone Lake and Diamond Lake -- is halfway between Chicago & Detroit...about 2.5 hours from either. Less drive time = more fun time. Why drive 5-6 hours?
What makes this House unique
Here's what's most unique: The privacy and tranquility of a 47-acre wooded retreat with a private shoreline featuring a secluded, gentle-slope sandy beach upon which sits a 7-BR, 7.5-BA, 3,700 sq. ft. home that easily accommodates multiple families. Throw in a private dock with available Pontoon Boat, Kayaks, Row Boat, 8 Mountain Bikes -- and it's a recipe for a great week at the lake. The icing on the cake? Guests can walk to downtown Cassopolis' restaurants & watering holes...and within 15-20 minutes by car are a plethora of other great restaurants. The Lodge House is 40-minutes from Notre Dame / South Bend and 45 minutes from Four Winds Casino. Numerous Golf Courses are nearby as are many Wineries which offer tours.

First of all, let me say that Ted and Brenda were very attentive, professional and friendly during communication before our stay. We could tell that the place would be perfect and it was. Everything was so well explained and we had no issues so we did not need to contact the owners during the stay. However, I am certain that Ted and Brenda would have been responsive to whatever our needs may have been.
Our 5 grandchildren loved the play structure. My kids commented, "It's better than most of the ones in parks". The grandkids spent time playing at the lakefront, although, in April, it was well before swim time.
We opted to spend evenings on the huge deck watching the lake and sunsets, rather than having a fire, as the evenings happened to be windy. But on a nicer weather day, the fire area would have been great.
We were able to spread out over the 7 bedrooms with plenty of space for all and with 7.5 bathrooms, nobody ever had to wait! The place has the sweet smell of pine, the knotty pine walls lending a warm, yet bright ambience, which was welcoming on the one cold rainy day we had. And the game room occupied the little ones for hours on that day.
The kitchen has everything including spices and the second fridge in the game room allowed for the microbrews from our 3 states of Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin to remain chilled. The living/dining area was big enough for 6 adults and 5 kids to hang out comfortably, with 10 chairs at the table and 3 comfy couches. There is also a TV room with couches in the lower level.
Being Wisconsin natives, we used the gas grill to cook bratwurst of course!
We are already talking about when to come back. Bottom line...the place feels like home!
Paradise on Stone Lake!
We loved EVERYTHING about this home! The chair-lift-elevator, for our 74-year old mom, made going between floors a breeze! She loved her walk-in shower. Our other mom, 78-years old, this year, LOVED her first floor bedroom, with the walk-in shower! The GAME ROOM kept our four kids, AND US, busy for HOURS! The memories are priceless! The outside play area was fantastic! Can't say enough good things! :)
Wonderful stay, spectacular property!
Our family of four joined two other families (in total, 6 adults, 6 kids, and 1 dog) for a few chilly March days in Cassopolis at the Knotty Pine Lodge. It was fantastic! The photos do not do the property justice -- the home was beautiful, spacious, spotless, and filled with natural light. We could have easily added another family to our party and not felt cramped at all. Given the cold weather, we knew that we wouldn't be going on the lake; instead, we spent our days cooking, cycling (there are bikes included!), jogging through the woods, drinking around the bonfire, watching sports on the big projection screen, and playing ping pong, basketball, pool, foosball, and Wii. You know the trip is a success when none of the kids complain about being bored! By simply walking through the property, you can see how much thought Ted and Brenda put into the design and amenities. Good towels and linens, plenty of blankets, extra ping pong paddles and balls -- even the kitchen was well-stocked with good cookware and cutlery. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and hope to return during warmer weather. Thank you, Ted & Brenda, for a wonderful experience!
A Bathroom for Every Bedroom!
Plus a very large game room with 5 leather sofas and a couple of bistro tables that let everyone hang out - comfortably - in one space. We played lots of pool, ping pong, even foosball. House was very clean and well appointed!
Was a rainy weekend but we still had a great time in the game room and kitchen/family room , playing games, doing lots of cooking and enjoying each other’s company. The place exceeded our expectations and we would love to come back in warmer weather to enjoy more of the property. The only add we’d suggest is a jacuzzi tub. But the place was absolutely beautiful!
We visited the Knotty Pine Lodge for our 2017 couple’s get away. My goal was to accommodate 6 couples comfortably allowing each to have access to private baths. I stumbled upon the Knotty Pine Lodge on VRBO and was very happy that the property would be able to accommodate our party of 12. I begin contacting Ted (the owner) and was very pleased with his responsiveness to our request and questions. When we arrived at the residence we were all quite pleased, it felt as if we were at home. All of the bedrooms had queen beds in each and, some rooms also included bunk beds. The kitchen was a fully functional and supplied with everything that you could think of, all you have to bring is food. The game room was amazing and quickly became our gathering place. We got a chance to make s’mores by the fire pit all while laughing and enjoying our time together. It’s been almost two weeks and we are still talking about the good memories we made at the Knotty Pine Lodge. Ted & Brenda, thanks for allowing us to make memories in your home. We can’t wait to visit again.
With 47 wooded acres with trails PLUS all of the fun of a lakefront home with available Pontoon Boat, 4 2-person Sea Eagle Kayaks, Fishing Row Boat, champion Ping Pong Table, Pool Table, Foosball Table, Wii with 4 controllers and games, lots of indoor Board and outdoor Yard Games..the Lodge House has it all!
