The Pontoon Boat also makes for a great mobile swimming platform, and sunsets are glorious as it's so peaceful to be out in the middle of Stone Lake and just slowly drift and watch the waterfowl, birds, etc. And if anyone likes to fish - that's what Stone Lake is famous for! We include in the rental of the Pontoon Boat a personal orientation session so that the Pontoon can be operated safely and with confidence. Also included is 10 gallons of fuel -- enough for a week.

For Guests with mobility issues, and Guests with children who love to vacation with other families, the serene setting of the Knotty Pine Lodge with its own boat dock, gentle-slope sandy beach and 47 wooded acres -- makes for family memories to last a lifetime.

About Ted Gogol

In the early 1980s we moved away from Michigan for jobs, settling in Maryland near Washington, DC where we raised our two wonderful children. As empty nesters, in the summer of 2008, we started what we thought would be a 5-year search for our dream retirement home back in Michigan, on a lake, halfway between Chicago and Detroit -- where all of Brenda's family have homes. In our very first house-hunting trip in June 2008 we came across a beautifully restored 1935 craftsman house on 3 acres; it exceeded our expectations in every conceivable way. It's a dream come true for us that in one short year became a mecca for family gatherings. In 2010 a 47-acre wooded parcel became available that surrounds the 3 acres and which included 150 feet of lake frontage...we were able to acquire it and build the Knotty Pine Lodge right on the water. We hope you will consider staying here at Stone Lake to build your own wonderful family memories. -- Ted & Brenda

Why Ted Gogol chose Southwest Michigan

Cassopolis, Michigan with its two lakes -- Stone Lake and Diamond Lake -- is halfway between Chicago & Detroit...about 2.5 hours from either. Less drive time = more fun time. Why drive 5-6 hours?

What makes this house unique

Here's what's most unique: The privacy and tranquility of a 47-acre wooded retreat with a private shoreline featuring a secluded, gentle-slope sandy beach upon which sits a 7-BR, 7.5-BA, 3,700 sq. ft. home that easily accommodates multiple families. Throw in a private dock with available Pontoon Boat, Kayaks, Row Boat, 8 Mountain Bikes -- and it's a recipe for a great week at the lake. The icing on the cake? Guests can walk to downtown Cassopolis' restaurants & watering holes...and within 15-20 minutes by car are a plethora of other great restaurants. The Lodge House is 40-minutes from Notre Dame / South Bend and 45 minutes from Four Winds Casino. Numerous Golf Courses are nearby as are many Wineries which offer tours.

Fantastic Family reunion

  • 5 of 5

My family and I rented the Knotty Pine Lodge for a family reunion during Spring break. Our children and their families came from as far away as the State of Washington. The weather was quite abysmal but the Lodge was perfect for that type of weather. We had 26 people including 14 grandchildren (ranging in age from 2 to 18) and had plenty of sleeping arrangements for everyone. The bedrooms were perfect for closing the door and having quiet for naps and just getting away. Since the weather was mostly rainy, windy, and cold, we were forced to stay in the Lodge most of the time. Normally that would have been worrisome but the game room provided a perfect place for the children to congregate. Many of them had never played Ping Pong and that became one of the center pieces. We have a family tradition of playing around-the-world Ping Pong with everyone trying to run from one paddle to the next to hit the ball and being eliminated if you mess up. Our granddaughter requested we play one last game as we left to go home. The pool table also received a lot of attention as did the Foosball table. One of our sons-in-law is a huge Foosball fan and he was in heaven. In addition to the games, there is a projection TV with a pull-down screen in the game room and we watched one movie as a whole family and the children watched two or three others on their own. The lower gathering room had a Wi game system with numerous remotes for many to play. Each of the bedrooms had an attached bathroom with a half-bath on the main level. We never had a problem finding bathrooms for the children's needs. Our adult children played many games together in the main dining area around the table and had a great time visiting each other. Three of our children live out-of-state and aren't able to get together as often as we like and this was a perfect place to meet and visit. The weather was good enough for us to use the barbecue one afternoon and it was great. When it finally let up a little on Friday, we were able to go outside and some of the younger children enjoyed the very nice swing-set/playset. Some were able to go down and enjoy walking on the beach and some of us walked a little into the woods. All in all, we had a wonderful time and Ted and Brenda were so accommodating and provided everything we needed. Everyone thought this would be a great place for our next family reunion but later in the year when we can enjoy the beautiful lake.

Perfect Rental for

  • 5 of 5

What can I say other than this is our 5th year of being able to stay at the Knotty Pine Lodge with our immediate family & siblings & I hope we can continue to make this a yearly event.

This home is phenomenal, very well equipped with everything you need for a Fabulous stay!

It is the most cozy home with all the perks that any large family would enjoy. I must say that I have never once commented on the beds, but we all talk about how well of a good nights sleep that we get each time we stay there. The kitchen , massive amount of bedrooms & bathrooms & the game room are just perfect for large families! While we stayed there, Ted actually took us for a tour of the other 2 homes on the block that Brenda & him own & rent out which also took our breathe away.

We highly recommend this home for anyone considering it; the only suggestion that I would say is that we need a hot tub , that is the only thing missing that I know everyone would enjoy, especially those staying during the cold months since we don't get to enjoy the outdoors as much.

With or without my "wish" of having that, it is PERFECT! Anyone who visits & stays here will be happy they made that choice.

Great Winter Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I hosted a large group of friends for a celebration in the middle of winter. Brenda and Ted were very responsive and expedient in the introduction/paperwork phase, and everything was in great order when I arrived. The Lodge is bigger and better than the photos reveal and very well laid out. The game room - with a pool table, foosball, ping pong, 10 ft. projection screen, couches and hi-boy tables - was very impressive. Clean and well maintained throughout. Being at the end of the street, right on the lake and with woods all around, made the house feel private and secluded. Highly Recommend! Thanks, Brenda & Ted!

Fun lake house

  • 5 of 5

16 of our family members gathered at the lake house for a fun week on Stone Lake. The home is very well designed, decorated, and equipped with most everything you could possibly want/need.

Although one family member brought his power boat, we also rented the boat package. The pontoon boat was used every day. We anchored it out in the lake, and used it as our floating swim dock. The young children spent hours wading along the shore, catching minnows and frogs.

Because the game room is situated away from the sleeping areas, it was never a problem with noise, even though it was often used.late into the night. The kitchen was very well stocked, and the extra refrigerator in the game room was great to have, because we shopped at Costco on our way to the house and it had plenty of room for our groceries for the week.

We ate dinner every evening out on the deck at the big table. Many of our family members hiked the trails that wandered thru the 47 acres, and we picked up kindling from the nearby woods for our gathering around the fire pit to roast marshmallows and tell stories.over the last 15 years, I have rented 20+ vacation properties from VRBO, and I have to say that Ted was the most attentive owner I have ever dealt with. He is genuinely commited to helping you have a wonderful time while staying in their home.

We hope to return sometime in the next few years.

Thanks, Ted and Brenda

5th Year of Making Family Memories!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family has now stayed at the "Redhouse" for 5 years and we plan to return again next summer. The owners, Ted and Brenda, whom we finally got to met in person this year, are wonderful people. Their hard work and vision guarantee that you will not be disappointed should you be lucky enough to get to spend time at the property. The Redhouse has so many things to offer that we never seem to be able to do it all. Here is just a short list of our activities from this year: boating, rafting, fishing, swimming, camp fires, billiards, corn-hole, foosball, ping-pong, board games, puzzles, croquet, bike riding, hiking, basketball, swinging and playground, movie night, and my favorite... Coffee and breakfast on the back porch while over looking the lake. The fishing was a record year for us, catching mainly largemouth bass, sunfish and bluegills. There is something there for everyone, so much so, that we only go out to eat once during the week, which means we are spending most of our time together catching up and playing games. Another great feature is that the house is at the end of the street, so you feel very secluded and the kids have plenty of room to run around safely. All said, the house is perfect for large families or groups that want to spend time quality time together.

Most Wonderful Week

  • 5 of 5

The house is the most fantastic "cottage" we have ever rented. The knotty pine gave it a cottage feel, but the amenities are first rate! The bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen were all above our expectations. The "Playroom", as my kids called it, and the movie room were above and beyond what we needed, but were used and would have been a life saver if the weather hadn't been perfect, which is was! Even though we are a family that is lucky enough to not need the handicapped accessibility, I know a lot of thought went into the building of this home and it was very well thought out and would make anyone's stay a treat!!
