Very Disappointing

  • 1 of 5

Upon arrival I was pleased with the outdoor appearances of this property. The grounds were well maintained and it has a beautiful peaceful view of the lake. If that's all you care for, then I would recommend staying here. If it is that and cleanliness you desire, then you might think again. Cleanliness is based on how clean the party who rented before you left it. Cleaning is based on the honor system, you clean it for me, I will clean it for you. The kitchen was well stocked with all utensils you need to prepare most meals including cleaning products and paper items. The beds were disgusting with mildew and filthy mattress protectors and one room had fine mildew on the wall. I realize that can happen in a cottage close to the lake, but it can also be prevented with proper maintenance and management. The shower floor was appalling, which was comprised of a wooden pallet and a vinyl bathmat. If you have allergies to animals, mold or dust, I would definitely not recommend this cottage. The owner was made aware of these problems and a handyman was called out to fix the plugged up drains. They also made mention the bathroom was going to be remodeled and another problem fixed, but how soon that will happen is the question. I would recommend you request new photos before renting this cottage.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry that you felt the need to post such a low review of our cabin and found it to be so unclean. We have not had problems with renters finding the place dirty previously and the family that stayed there prior to your arrival assured me that they had cleaned prior to leaving. Not knowing what you encountered we did refund you $50 for your troubles. We also haven't heard that the beds were disgusting, filthy, and had mildew before. We do realize that the mattresses are getting worn and will be replacing them in the spring. As for the shower, it was tiled in September. I am disappointed that in spite of the e-mail you sent me about not writing a negative review without the opportunity to rectify a problem, you chose "blasting negative advertising over the internet". And although we have had numerous repeat renters, what surprised me most is that in spite of you giving us a 1 star review you asked me to keep you informed of the changes and you would "more than likely make a reservation for next summer."

Houghton Lake Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Did not want to leave ever. Absolutely beautiful view. Fell in love with the cabin. Loved waking up watching the sun rise while sitting in the patio. The bathroom was really big and very clean. I have stayed in other cabins for the past 20 years. This was the nicest cabin I have stayed in and a great value for being right on the lake. Will be back for sure!

Short week

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is very nice, and was just what I expected. There were several things that we were not satified with. Even though the neighboors were very close, that was ok, but the other owners were very unfriendly. The lake is nice, even if there is no beach. Would really think that a row boat should be available, even if you add a charge for this. Unfortuanately we ended up staying only 4 nights.

Please provide a list of area businesses that you can recommend. Especially restaurants. We never did find a decent one.

Summer Family Vacation Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Cozy little cottage with a ceiling fan in the room overlooking the lake. A good place to stay for a family in the summer time but may get a little hot during the afternoon without a window A/C unit. Great Lake to bring a boat for the family and do a little skiing, fishing, and boating fun. Be aware of placing the boat at the dock when the water becomes choppy and much better to bring an Auger for mooring the boat near the shoreline on the right side of the dock. A swimming area is to the left side of the dock for the kids to play. Overall a great family trip that I would recommed and good community to share the lot in front of the home near the lake with.

Great Vacation Cottage

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I had a great time at this lakefront cottage Memorial Weekend. The owners are very accomodating and great to work with. It's a delightful cottage where you can sip your coffee and enjoy the sunrise and lake view from the enclosed porch (or when it's really warm you can sit on the outside porch). The grounds are well-maintained and sitting right on the lake front was awesome. The cottage has everything you need for your stay. We also had a great time catching our limit of Walleye. We'd reccommend this to our friends or anyone that wants a lake front cottage for a very reasonible cost.
