About John or Vicki White

John grew up on farm in central Illinois and always loved the country. He is eager to share the countryside and beauty of his farms. He loves to farm, hike, and his latest endeavor is planting a vineyard. In coming years he will be producing wine from the over 1000 vines planted.

John or Vicki White purchased this farmhouse in 2006

Why John or Vicki White chose Hillsboro

We chose this property for the beauty of the rolling hills, the creek dividing both farmhouses and the associability

to nearby towns, wineries, dinning and entertainment. We enjoy getting away from the hectic city life and relaxing on the front porch and the quiet.

What makes this farmhouse unique

You will fall in love with the cottage and the country style setting. The views are spectacular and nothing is more relaxing than rocking on the porch watching the sunrise.

WIFI is available, as is cable TV.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We so enjoyed our time here at your warm country cottage. We have built great memories here! We especially loved the hiking, fishing, fires at night and the scenic drives around town.

Thank you again for the food and cookies. The kids enjoyed every bite!

We hope to come see you again soon. We loved getting to know you better as we sat around the fire. May God Bless you abundantly!

Perfect Quick Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

John and Vicki were two of the best hosts we’ve ever met. When we arrived, there were fresh cookies baked by Vicki waiting for us! John stopped by to check in and gave us some history on the home and land. I’m pretty sure my husband could’ve sat there and talked to him all afternoon! They way this home is set up is perfect for any stay! We hiked the property, roasted hotdogs, played board games, and ended our evening in the hot tub.

Reading and going through photos and learning the history of the home and the previous owners was our favorite part.

Thank you for coming by before we left! We were able to meet Vicki and talk some more. Next time, we will be sure to take the tour of the property that was offered. Highly recommend staying here. Thank you again, and we also thank you very much for welcoming our 4-legged girls in your home. We’ll definitely be back!

A quiet country getaway

  • 5 of 5

I really enjoyed my time at Vicki and John's cottage in Hillsboro. The cottage was very comfortable and the setting was calm and beautiful. John gave me a tour of the property and my dog and I enjoyed exploring the vast grounds during our stay. I saw all kinds of wildlife: turkey, rabbit, deer, tons of birds, and lots of butterflies. There is a grocery store about 15 mins away. The kitchen is fully stocked. The bed was comfortable. They had puzzles and board games available. I spent most of my time on the front porch. One thing to note is that I didn't have cell service there and the wifi was pretty slow. For me, that was no problem at all, as I wanted to truly get away. But if you were planning to work remotely or stay connected, you would have to walk down the road a few hundred feet for cell service or go into town for wifi. I would highly recommend this country cottage and hope to get back soon!

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure having Marci at the guesthouse and her very well behaved dog, Pippin. We are in a valley surrounded by hills and it is a problem to get good WIFI service in the country. (It is slow, sorry) The phone service that works best in our area is AT&T and that is best received on the front porch! We wish it was better but at this time nothing is available for us country folks. We hope to see Marci and Pippin again in the near future. Thanks for visiting.

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our family and is in the most peaceful setting. The creek and trails offered a natural playground for the kids and they had so much fun. John and Vicki were amazing hosts and all of the personal touches they add really show how much they love the property and love to share it with their guests even more. Can't wait to come back!

Pheasant Valley Farms-a pleasant way to spend a week...

  • 5 of 5

Aside from the humidity Illinois is known for, we had a wonderful time. We saw deer, a box turtle and many different birds. The peace and quiet of the farm was just what we needed. We were close enough to Springfield and the Amish communities to be able to enjoy both!
