You may wonder why not stay right on a sandy beachfront home? Well after many years of traveling to Eleuthera, and staying in just about every rental home on the island, we learned that most beachfront homes are on the Atlantic side where the water is normally not calm and at dusk and dawn, there are lots of sand fleas also known as “no see ums.” There so many beaches to explore on the island, that even if you stay in front of one, you will want to see others, there are literally dozens of them and they are all very different.
Also most beachfront homes are built set back behind sea oats and other natural foliage for hurricane protection so waterfront views at most are very limited, many times you have to physically walk out through the foliage to actually see the water, unless the house is 2 story and then you can see the water but only from upstairs. Or if the houses are built on higher elevations, you have to go down very steep stairs to get that sandy beach.
This is why we decided to build on the calm Caribbean side in front of our own natural waterfront aqua-colored pool. When you step into the water, depending on the tide level, it’s just 1-3 feet deep and very protected. Then it gently slopes and just 10-20 feet away from this natural shallow pool, the reefs start where you have one of the best snorkeling areas on the island with a large variety of colorful fish on the beautiful living coral reefs. It is just amazing to find this so close to shore behind your own home.
You can also enjoy hiking through several cleared nature trails and if you want to come up for air, take a walk up Le Mirador, a three story viewing tower where you can enjoy a 360 degree view of the island while capturing full island breezes (a great spot for a picnic!).
We also have our very own historical Caves where island folklore has it that early settlers sought refuge from Pirates in their search for this island of freedom!
This is all available to you without ever having to drive anywhere. Every day can be a new water and nature adventure right outside your door. You are close to dozens of beaches. We have Receivers Beach a couple of miles north on the Caribbean side which is one of the most beautiful beaches on the entire island. This is a shallow beach with white sand and full of sand dollars with amazing hues of colors. Then just less than half a mile away going South, we have one of the best Atlantic side pink sand beaches called Banana Beach which you can access right behind Sky Beach club or if you like to walk, just walk right from the house to the Atlantic side, it’s an awesome 20 walk which we and our guests do all the time.
At the house you’ll find a book called “the Elusive Beaches of Eleuthera” in that book you’ll find just about every beach on the island from north to south and how to get to each, it’s so much fun exploring the different settlements and all of the amazing beaches Eleuthera has to offer. Besides the two right near us, some of our favorites include Lighthouse Beach at the southernmost end of the island and French Leaves beach just a few miles away on the Atlantic side, both pink sand beaches.
There is no place like Eleuthera, it is truly magical, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

About Deborah Vazquez
Experienced global travelers, beach and Island connoisseurs, seeking freedom from stress as close to home as possible and finding it in beautiful, magical Eleuthera
Deborah Vazquez purchased this House in 2005
Why Deborah Vazquez chose Governor's Harbour, The Bahamas
Eleuthera is a Greek word that stands for 'freedom' and that is exactly the feeling you have when you visit this beautiful island and its wonderful people.
What makes this House unique
Close to to the US, yet a pace that is 50 years back in time, in an unspoiled paradise. We built this house from the ground up on a very unique spot on the island. We wanted privacy, yet we wanted to be close to the best amenities and establishments on the island. We found this amazing spot, where you don't feel you are in the middle of nowhere too far from everything yet you have the best of that world too in a central island setting with unparraleled views, swimming and snorkeling right at home.

This home was perfect for our family. The snorkeling on the property was so beautiful- we will return some day
Well located and clean waterfront home
This home is probably best maintained island home we’ve been to. And we’ve been to many! Very bright and clean, and functional for our party of 5. Loved the cave hike and snorkeling right on the property’s waterfront. The top of the tower at night was the best for star gazing. Very beautiful surroundings and great beaches nearby. We’ll be back for sure.
Paradise point is right! Our stay here was amazing! The views are SPECTACULAR and the house was quite & cozy, just BEAUTIFUL! The water access for snorkeling was incredible too. Although we visited many of the beaches on the island, the best snorkeling was right in the backyard. Some of the most beautiful and diverse living communities we've ever seen. We will definitely be coming back!
Thank you for sharing your slice of paradise...
Amazing property with spectacular views.
Clean and comfy housing with a modern touch. Property grounds a bonus. Being able to swim in paradise just steps away from the house.
Gorgeous view but home needs some TLC
The home has a stunning view of the ocean, but is in need of some tender loving care. The home smelled of mildew when we arrived. The furniture was dirty and not in good condition. The bed in the master bedroom had no headboard. The comforter was stained. The bed pillows were soiled and should be thrown in the garbage. We were never able to get the television in the bedroom to work. The throw pillows on the couch were stained and gross. We sprayed everything with Lysol before even sitting down. The blinds in one of the bedrooms wouldn't come down so we had to place the soiled pillows in the window to prevent sunlight so early in the morning. The cabinets in the kitchen were off the hinges and difficult to open. The window seals in the bedrooms were filled with what appeared to be either black mold or dirt. The path to the ocean in the back needs to be trimmed a bit. The caretaker and his family were very nice and attentive. Eleuthra is a very beautiful island with the most beautiful pink sand beaches. We will definitely be returning. We had a water outage (it was fixed the next day) and power outage (that was in nature's control). The islanders are extremely hospitable and friendly. This home has potential, just needs some major attention. In terms of the charges, we were charged $55 per additional person after 2 people which was not stated on the site when we booked and very confusing as the home is a 3 bedroom home and can accommodate well more than 2 people. I'm assuming it is an extra way to make money on a home that was not in any condition to charge any type of extra fee! We weren't looking for perfection but clean comfort was not too much to ask.
It's disappointing that this tenant never brought any issues up, but then gives us this poor review over a month past their stay.
For folks without previous experience staying in island homes there may be expectations that are hard to meet.
Tropical island homes (especially oceanfront) are challenging to upkeep to the level we are used to in the US due to elements like salt, constant high humidity, and frequent tropical storms. It's true that sometimes power or water may be out due to a storm or work at the plant. However, we have a backup cistern for water, and electricity usually comes back on quickly.
On pricing, we are not trying to deceive anyone, quite the contrary we simple try to keep the home affordable for everyone. We price the rental low for 2 people and add $11/day per additional person to make it fair for everyone since water and electric come at high premiums on the island. This is clearly stated under rates ("add $11 per additional person").
The TV issue was simply due to a modem which had just been replaced (due to lightening) and the tech updated the main TV but not the smaller smart TV in the bedroom. This could have been fixed in minutes along with other items cited here. Our caretaker would have gone back to address any issues with cleanliness or extra trimming needed on one of the trails.
The cabinet hinges on a cabinet had simply loosened, again very easy to resolve. And as for the missing headboard, a tenant accidentally hit it with something and broke it and we have a new one in the next shipment down with supplies, but the bed looks and works perfectly without it.
I believe the motivation behind this review were the extra charges when the tenant came back after booking, adding more people to the reservation and not understanding the additional charges although many homes are priced this way on the island for the sames reasons stated.
Fantastic natural tranquility in well kept property!
Paradise Pointe was an amazing experience! The view from the house porch is incredible and the land so naturally beautiful. The seas were rough for a couple of days, so we only got into the water near the end of our trip - but snorkeling was really nice. The home is really comfortable and like new - a fantastic private property which is well situated to explore Governor's harbour area. The rocky shore has its unique character - its not miles of sandy beach strolling, so we went to sky beach club which is maybe 3 mins drive away for that big beach experience and pool access (all free given you buy a drink or meal there).
We understood windy conditions and chop on Caribbean side are somewhat rare, so our water conditions we had are not typical. Even so, we got a peek at the end and its great.
Travelers will want to check out the many beaches nearby which are nearly private to you, offer amazing water, soft sand and beautiful local vegetation surroundings! We highly recommend this property.
This house is one of a kind. Rare to find a modern, clean new home with this many amenities in a top location. We are 2-3 miles from Governor's Harbour airport and 4 miles from Cupids Cay in the very center of Eleuthera, the original capital of the Bahamas. Great amenities nearby including Sky Beach Club with restaurant and infinity pool bar, Coco Di Mama restaurant and Receiver's beach, Banana beach, and the new French Leave Marina, infinity pool and bar just 3 miles away. Other Activities: snorkeling (life coral reef and amazing sea life right in your backyard, large caves on property, 3 story 360 degree viewing tower right on premise and 3 hiking trails through our 10 acre property with over 400 linear feet of Caribbean waterfront! See rare birds and dolphins right from our 600 ft balcony.
