About Jim & Dean Fraser
We are a couple that has made an investment in our retirement in our purchase of a home in Costa Rica. We are awaiting the calendar to tick away to our retirement and in the interim are pleased to be able to offer our home to others who either love Costa Rica or WILL love Costa Rica!! It is truly our home away from home.
Jim & Dean Fraser purchased this Condo in 2009
Why Jim & Dean Fraser chose Sámara
After more than 10 visits to Costa Rica we found the crown jewel in Samara. It offers the true Tico Experience with all the amenities close at hand. Almost exactly between two beaches - Samara Beach and Carrillo Beach we like the option to enjoy the quietness and serenity of Carrillo Beach and the excitement and action of Samara Beach. Samara offers all the amenities required for a relaxing vacation with enough excitement to make it's mark as our favorite place in Costa Rica
What makes this Condo unique
We enjoy the option of having 2 beaches within walking distance. If we are looking for peace and solitude we are an 8 minutes walk to Carrillo Beach or a 5 minute walk to Samara Beach where we often walk into town for the day's fresh fruit and vegetables. We bask in the pool and often just take a 20 minutes dip to refresh, cool down and start over again! We love to lay in the uniquely designed wading area. In the evening we enjoy the ability to watch satellite TV, watch movies, read or listen to music. We have two DVD players as we found out - the hard way - that DVD players have a country code and aren't interchangeable. We bring our iPod and dock it whenever we are home.

Beautiful, Comfortable, Home away from Home with every detail carefully thought of.
Our experience at Casa Marlamda was very relaxing. This beautiful condo is very spacious, clean, and stocked with everything you need. My husband and I stayed for a week and we didn’t even use most of the room that is available with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The pool area is also very clean and while we were here very quiet. Laura was excellent, she met us when we arrived, gave us lots of information and checked in via email to see how we were doing. A few recommendations that we found made our stay more enjoyable. We are not ones who like to lay in the sun so we rented a vehicle from the Liberia airport so we could tour around. We found the best deal through the Samara info Center they get a corporate rate through Alamo. Make sure you rent a vehicle with wifi on the go. It is a hotspot device and we used our phones connected to wifi to travel to Arenal National Park and back no problems. You can put the device in your bag and have wifi everywhere. Book the 2 Hour hike through the info Center early it was very educational to learn about and see the different animals and plants here. Watch the sunset from the beach literally right across the street just follow the little road beside the communication tower it’s the best place no mountains in the way. Eat at El Lagarto restaurant early, you will want I go again. It’s so good. Find the butcher and the fish market early. Again ask Chris and Brenda at the info Center they were fantastic with directions to both of these places. Go to the bank and exchange your American Money to clonus I found it so much easier to make purchases using the local currency, less math. The bank is different the line is long but moves quickly. They have bank machines but I would recommend bringing all your spending money in cash, exchange when you need and leave everything else in the safe, the bank machines only dispense in $100 quantities and there is a $5 charge each transaction. I felt completely safe here, the people here are very friendly and nice and they were willing to help even if they didn’t speak English. I wish it wasn’t time for me to go home, so much I would love to see and do yet. I didn’t make it to the Macaw sanctuary or a sunset boat ride, and I did not see the howler moneys that live close by here, I could hear them though. Maybe next time....Yes there will be a next time 😊. Carla and Shaun
Thanks Shaun and Carla,
It was certainly our pleasure to have you as our guests at Casa Marlanda. It was refreshing to have guests as excited as both of you to visit our home.
It was too bad you missed the macaw center and some of the other sites but it only gives you a reason to return!
Pura Vida! You are welcome back any time!

We stayed at Casa Marlanda for a month with our family of 4, baby and toddler. We cooked and baked a lot, The kitchen is super well equipped, Laura is charming, the grounds well kept , the pool fantastic for kids and the location between both beaches( carillo and samara) perfect! The hotel restaurant was delicious! A common condo BBQ grill by the pool would be a great addition... will be back!!!
Great accomadations ...about a 6 block walk to the beach.....Laura, the manager, is super to work with...fully stocked kitchen.....quiet and restful....
It was a pleasure to have you and your group at Casa Marlanda, Michelle! We look forward to having you again!
Beautiful and peaceful!!!

Loved it here ! Great location, lots of space, quality furnishings.
We, 2 couples, spent 3 weeks here and loved it ! It has been well maintained and has everything that one could want. So much space with over 1700 sq. feet..3 bathrooms and 3 large bedrooms. Lots of seating space in the living room with a sofa, love seat and rocking chairs.
We used the kitchen quite a bit, making our dinners every other day along with breakfasts and we found it very well equipped...lots of plates and glasses...pots and pans etc. There are plastic glasses to take down to the pool, a dishwasher, but we washed by hand to save power.
There is a washer and dryer, which we used, but most of the time we hung the clothes either on the line or the clothes horse as it only takes minutes for things to dry in the heat.
The sheets are nice bamboo sheets, cool for those hot nights...beds very comfortable...there were a couple of different pillows on the K bed, so we managed to find ones that worked for both of us.
AC in the bedrooms, but we only used ceiling fans and fans on the dressers as most nights were quite comfortable this way. The fans in the living area of the house we kept on as well to circulate the air. We would close the condo up early in the day to keep cooler. Power for our 3 wk. stay reasonable
Huge deck with a large table that we usually ate our meals at, but there is also a big table inside too. Great for playing Yahtzee at :) There are lots of books for reading, as well as some games, we left a puzzle as well.
The pool is deep enough to dive into, always cleaned every morning...3 umbrellas to get under at the pool as laying in the sun is not an option for too long with the sun being so intense. Shower at the pool to get the sand off after being at the beach.
Easy walk to Samara Beach...only about a 5-10 minute walk.About a 10-15 minute walk the other direction will bring you to Carillo beach where there is shade that you won't find at Samara beach near the condo. In the shade at Carillo, there are cement tables and stools, so you can take a picnic lunch if you want. The sand is nicer here than at Samara.
There are no sun umbrellas or boogie boards at the condo.Boogie boards break fairly easily...we bought one for $20 so pretty inexpensive. Umbrella...the sun is so hot, that you really need to be in the shade of the trees at the beach.
Would I recommend this condo ? Most definitely, with no hesitation ! The owners, Dean & Jim are quick to reply and great to deal with. Laura, the manager responds right away if you have question
Thank you so much for your kind words. We found the boogie boards would break faster than we could buy them too!! But we couldn't resist buying more every visit. LOL Carrillo Beach is also our favourite beach. The sand is beautiful and having shade is nice for us Canuks who aren't used to the hot sun. I can't wait to get back to do your puzzle (addicting as they are). I might take it to the pool so everyone can help! Thanks again! We look forward to seeing you again in the future! Jim & Dean
Beautiful roomy house accommodates a family well!
Relatively large, tastefully decorated house has very accommodating living, dining & kitchen area for a vacation home away from home. Also has a roomy porch with a table for 6 and 2 lounge chairs to enjoy the sun, breezes and view. 3 air-conditioned bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms suited our family of 6 well. The elevator was a plus for my mother to be able to visit with us, as our 2nd story condo would have been a challenge for her mobility issues. Appreciated the well-stocked kitchen, and having a washer and dryer too. One thing that could've been improved IMO is to have the location labeled a little more clearly; upon arrival we didn't know to go past the Montelaguna Boutique Hotel and turn right into the parking lot where sign simply says "private residence." There was also no reception office, but our hostess Laura was readily available by phone to answer any questions and help us reach our destination. A bonus upgrade would be to have the living/dining/kitchen area air conditioned for when cool breezes were not blowing through the house as it does sometimes. And we did not find any boogie boards (as the webpage mentioned would be available), which we were looking forward to using at beautiful Carrillo Beach. It is tucked away at a great location, though, and overall we were very satisfied to find and use this home!
Thank you for your review. I will update the webpage with your suggestions. The condo shares security with the Montelaguna Boutique Hotel so the one gate is closed. It is safer for all guests and residents and saves costs for all.
We have not replaced the boogie boards as they make their way to the beach and get broken. We lost 6 in one year. I apologize for not being clearer on our webpage.
We look forward to having you again as our guests at Casa Marlanda!
