Really enjoyed the place, both the house and the lake. Neighbors all friendly and welcoming.
So many spiders and ants... in the house!
Seemed like the place hadn't been used for a while and it wasn't cleaned up very well before our arrival. Lots of cobwebs. Looked like mice droppings behind the toilet in one bathroom. Both shower/tubs had huge spiders living in them that we had to kill. Invaded by huge ants - but that was probably due to the weather (melting snow) Son, daughter and kids all slept on couches in front room instead of bedroom because so many ants were dropping from the ceiling onto their beds.
Place was nice, beds comfortable, bathrooms nice. Kitchen small but ok, not super well-equipped (no colander for pasta??) but we managed. Refrigerator wasn't holding temperature, so I'm glad we didn't stay longer than 2 nights or we would have been nervous about keeping our food in there. Back deck is small so we couldn't use it much. (BBQ was down in the garage?) Place does have 2 tables, one dining table that 8 people could comfortably sit at, plus a large game table. That was very nice. Great sectional couch with lots of room.
Two bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms downstairs, and everything else is upstairs. Open kitchen, dining, family room - we liked that a lot. Two bedrooms upstairs with a half bath.
Thermostat was locked - so when it got hot outside, we got hot inside. We couldn't turn on the ceiling fans and the thermostat was set to only on heat, we couldn't put on any air or even fans.
Our family made the best of it and still had a great time. We just didn't expect to have to deal with creepy crawlers after spending hundreds of dollars for less than 48 hours in a cabin.
Cabin location is great with lots of open area right behind the cabin. Kids had a blast out there with lots of room to go 'adventuring'.
We have talked about the ants and spiders when you called after your departure. We do apologize for this oversight on our part. With a severe Winter does come a severe Spring with all kinds of issues. Still no excuse.
However, when we talked we were not aware of the two other issues you had with the Nest thermostat being locked out or the refrigerator not cooling. Instead of "suffering through it" a call to our office (we do have a 24 hour emergency line) would have solved those two problems. Castle Peak does aim to please and we are very quick in handling issues, once we are aware of them.
We enjoyed our stay - the house is comfortable and very close to Royal Gorge, which was great for us.
The house was lovely and the location amazing. With snow at 14feet deep, spending a long weekend here was AWESOME! Complete with AGU coasters, we geologists and skiers really felt at home :-)
Room, comfortable house in a great location near Soda Springs and Sugar Bowl
My family and another family with kids enjoyed a wonderful weekend at the Zoback Cabin, fortunately catching the biggest snow of the 2015-2016 season. The house was comfortably furnished and located in a nice residential area with direct access to Royal Gorge from the back yard, and only about 10 minutes' drive to Sugar Bowl (less to Soda Springs Ski). We enjoyed using the fireplace in the living room, and there was plenty of firewood in the garage. There is also a fireplace in the main bedroom that we used. There was one in one of the smaller bedrooms, but it did not work. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cutlery etc., allowing us to have all our meals in the house. Since the cabin is located near Soda Springs before the Donner Pass, it's an easy 3-hour drive from the Bay Area. I would highly recommend it.
