Classic Summer Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Children, parents, and grandparents, for a total of 9 people, stayed at this house for a few nights over the summer. We had a great time and would love to come back. Plenty of space for all. Only improvement comment is that housecleaning was not great. We found a comb under the table in the main room, a pill on the floor in the master room, and a huge hairball in the drawer in the upstairs bedroom.

Great View and Very Comfy

  • 4 of 5

Great location in Soda Springs, right on a lake. I loved canoeing the lake with my kids, and the view is beautiful. The house is large enough for 8 people though we were just a family of 4, so we had plenty of room. The master mattress is a Sleep Number bed, and was very comfortable. The upstairs bedroom got a little warm for the kids and could use a fan (probably not a problem during winter). All the appliances are pretty new; the décor is a bit dated but everything is very clean and comfortable. The location is about 20 minutes from Truckee, where there are some nice restaurants and shops. Donner State Park is also very close, and we did some great hiking and swimming there. My only complaint is something that the owners cant control, but being right on the lake the mosquitoes were crazy. On the patio deck they were tolerable because the wind and height helped keep them away, but down by the lake it was like the zombie hoards! Great service from the Castle Peak management folks. We needed a bike pump for one of the bikes and they brought one over after I emailed asking about it. Anyhow, we've had a great time here and hate to leave. Now back to Texas, and our own mosquitoes.

Over priced and needs a deep cleaning

  • 1 of 5

We rented this home for a weekend ski trip. The location and view are very nice; however, there are spider webs everywhere and big spiders to go along with the webs. The one time I sat on the living room arm chair, a huge spider was on the seat with me. My husband, who doesn't mind bugs, was shocked at the infestation in this house and how much we paid to stay there. He was killing spiders nonstop. The house needs a deep cleaning and a fumigation. The heat automatically set back during the night and we were freezing. The blankets in the house were dirty.

Owner's Response: Hello Debra: I was sorry to see this review from you. We had not received any comments regarding spiders from guests before or after you, so rather surprised with your comments. But since your review we have gone in and deep cleaned. Hopefully you and your family had an enjoyable time regardless. The Sutton Lakefront is a very sunny, small but cozy home in a wonderful location on our lake. Rather sadden that your compliant would bring it to 1 star.

Great family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful family ski holiday, with more snow than we have ever seen. Even with the unexpected weather, the driveway was plowed and we arrived to a warm house. Nanette called to let us know about highway conditions and made sure we were informed. Would definitely recommend it.

Great little cabin, exactly as promised

  • 4 of 5

Nice location, right on the lake. The complimentary use of the boats made for a very pleasant "paddle around the pond" in the early morning as well as dusk.

The cabin is very tastefully appointed, comfy furniture and beds. Full kitchen with outdoor bbq as well as dining table allowed you prepare all your meals and never need to leave! We did of course as Truckie is so close and so charmingly! We highly recommend a trip there!

The rental company was very professional and easy to work with. Timely responses to email requests, flexible to your needs and great information given, not only the very helpful lists of "do's & don'ts" but also lots of "things to do" suggestions of nearby activities.

We were there for a wedding and many of the fellow guests rented other cabins, the rental agent was great at finding the perfect cabin for each of us. It was like having all your friends create an instant neighborhood! Perfect for what we were looking to do!
