Overview

About the property

First level of a 2-story duplex. In quiet neighborhood so no parties (Sleeps 2)

Vista Mill Valley has the details inside and outside that warrant your consideration. Inside, the property has nice furnishings, from granite counter tops to the Fisher & Paykel gourmet gas range. The bedroom has an 8 ft glass window and a 10 ft sliding glass door. The living room has another 8 ft window, making the wooded lot a part of your experience. Your unit has its own deck, accessible from the bedroom or the main entrance. Your water view includes Richardson Bay, Tiburon, the Sausalito houseboats, Angel Island, the East Bay hills, and, on a clear night, the lit-up cranes of the Oakland waterfront, across the Bay.

Why Mill Valley?

Mill Valley is popular for visitors from around the world because it is minutes from San Francisco, yet a world apart. Famous for its wooded hillsides and water views, Mill Valley has been the home of many notables, from Jerry Garcia to Janis Joplin. Grab a coffee in our downtown, and you might just recognize a few of our current residents.

If you've not been the the San Francisco Bay Area before, do stay in San Francisco for at least one night. But then come join us here in Mill Valley, for the perfect northern California experience.

Why this property?

A few years ago we completed a major remodel, taking much of the property down to the studs. This means that you will be enjoying accommodations that are basically new. All the small details - sophisticated lighting, built-in speakers, etc. - contribute to a great experience. The kitchen is small, so we made it special, with a gourmet gas range, granite counter tops, etc. The deck was always nice, but we made it nicer, with Brazilian teak, and cable railings. And the exterior path and steps have been redesigned, to better leverage the garden.

Finally: consider our location. Mill Valley has many wonderful properties, but some of them are time-consuming to get to. This property is only 1.1 miles from the freeway ramp.

A final thought: this property has about 40 stairs to the unit. Not 40 in a row; and most of the steps are low-rise, but read my 150+ reviews, and make sure the property is appropriate for you. Thanks!

About Bill

I'm Bill; my wife is Terry.

Bill purchased this house in 2003

Why Bill chose California

I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1978. Lots of communities are great. Berkeley's as entertaining as any place in the world, and Palo Alto and Menlo Park were both good addresses when I was working for dot-coms. And for a night-life, San Francisco is, of course, the place to be. But for being close to everything, yet feeling far away, Mill Valley is as good as it gets. (Go to Wikipedia, and look up 'Mill Valley' to see an amazing list of the rich and famous who have selected this town as their home.) While some parts of Mill Valley are hard to get to, this house is only 5.4 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge, making the property particularly practical.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Bill and Terry,

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit at your beautiful place. The interior design and attention to detail were beyond our expectations. The view and scenery from the living room and bedroom were amazing. The terraced hillside gardens were lush, beautiful and peaceful. It was close to all Marin County has to offer. We feel very lucky in finding such an outstanding and reasonably priced accommodation. Thank you very much. Looking forward to a return visit.

Beautiful serene getaway but close to everything

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 3 nights recently, and were completely blown away! The view is gorgeous, the unit is super clean, and has absolutely everything you need. The owners are so kind. We rent thru Homeaway 2-3 times a year over the last several years. And, we can say without a doubt. this is the most well stocked, well maintained place we have ever stayed. You feel like you are a million miles away from everything. But, you are just minutes from restaurants, grocery, and the Golden Gate Bridge. This getaway is HIGHLY recommended in our book!

Nice Place, Great Host!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place and Bill the host was so friendly and accommodating, he even had umbrellas and rain ponchos for the rainy weather we had while there. The views were amazing even in the rain and deer visited us on two mornings. The apartment had great amenities, lots off good music and movies, comfortable bed and nice well stocked kitchen! I highly recommend this lovely place!

Couples vacation getaway

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a week in the Bay area enjoying our stay in Mill Valley at Bill's and Terry's Mill Valley escape. The unit is everything as stated in description and more, we appreciated how inviting it was, the privacy we were given, the comfort of the location, cleanliness that goes beyond expectations, and a view that says you are on vacation! This location puts you within 15 minutes of the Golden Gate Bridge, yet at the same time the area is very peacefull and you feel your away from the hustle and bustle of being in a city. We would recommend this location to couples who want to enjoy the Bay area for all it has to offer and want to thank Bill and Terry for making our stay special!

Awesome place and location!

  • 5 of 5

Bill was a great host and greeted us shortly after we arrived filling us in for a few moments on the place, parking, etc. The place was immaculate and you need nothing to stay there. It has a small but full kitchen, a sizable bedroom and large family and dining area. The thermostat worked perfectly (a concern for us always) and the shower was perfect. The view from the deck that can be accessed from the front or the bedroom were of the bay and wonderful green vegetation. Access to 101 is just a minute or two away and just another 10 minutes across the GG and into the city. We had holiday visits in the city, the east bay, a dinner in Napa and a dinner in Monterey all in four days. This place works perfectly for those who brave the driving in CA. We would definitely consider this as our first choice in the Bay Area and we've been there many times and lived there for 4 years. Great stay, great comfortable place. The place is equipped with a large screen TV, wi-fi and stereo. However, we don't spend much time inside when we go to CA.

Excellent séjour !!!

  • 5 of 5

Ahhmazing

  • 5 of 5

This rental was awesome. The pictures are exactly what you get. The place was super clean, modern, beautifully decorated and in a perfect location. The view from the very large bedroom window and porch are so breathtaking. There are several steps up to the house, through a gorgeous garden. The location to SAN Francisco is perfect. We would spend the day with the crowds in SAN Francisco and then escape the crowds to the beautiful, peaceful quiet little town just minutes away. The owners live right above the rental and are quiet, respectful of your space and very lovely people. The only con with this rental is the seating in living room in front of the tv is not very comfortable for lounging around. ( that's hubby's complaint) But seriously, who is lounging around in front of the tv here when being outside is so amazing here. I was disappointed when I realized it was a duplex type and not a house. ( I didn't read the description to good before booking) But once we arrived I was not disappointed at all. It totally feels like you are the only people around, it has this hidden secluded feel about the place. Book this rental you will not be disappointed.

Mill Valley is a special town - only 7 miles north of San Francisco, but a world apart. This vacation rental - Vista Mill Valley - is also special.

We offer a modern, sophisticated interior, beautiful Brazilian teak deck, and views to die for. And the property has location. It's not 20 minutes up in the hills, but 1.1 miles from the 101 freeway - San Francisco really is just ten minutes away.

You will need to climb 40 stairs to reach your flat, but it is worth it. It means the view is a bit better, and the garden is pleasant. Don't be surprised if a buck or two scurry away as you pass; our goldfish pond seems to be a popular watering hole!

Inside is new. New floors, new drywall, new windows, new cabinets, new tile, new designer stove, new dishes, new glassware, new bedding. Welcome to Vista Mill Valley.
