The guest unit downstairs has 2BR's (2 Queen Beds and two foldout twins) with separate kitchen and bath. $85/nt. $15/person for more than 4 quests. The guest unit has an indoor and outdoor shower, private courtyard and beach access. It has a Amazon Firestick Smart TV. The entire house includes the guest unit and upstairs which has Master BR, Kitchen, DR, LR and 1 1/2 baths. BBQ, wifi and Satellite TV with all the sports and movie channels. Both options include sgear, fishing gear, and beach chairs/umbrellas. Ask about fishing trips and kiteboard lessons. Rent an 4X4 Lexus SUV for $45 day or $275 week. The place is too cool, and basically on the beach as it's on the main beach access just a 20-meter skip to the beach. Includes Flatscreens in LR and BR, wifi, & Vonage phone. The beach is the nicest swimming beach in the area. I have fishing rods, snorkel gear, beach chairs/towels/umbrellas for your use. It's the best value in the area by far. Take advantage of the pool, swim up bar, and restaurant and Spa services at the Buena Vista Hotel just four houses down the beach. You will be welcome there. Quads are allowed on our beach which I can provide a 15% discount from the local rental shop. Jet skis, kayaks, and charter boats are available at the Hotel. Damn, we have to charge 16% IVA tax that is charged on everything you buy in Mexico. For more than 6 people there is a $15/person per night extra charge. If you book for November I need to change the rate to $69 so just send a request.

Property has great potential but...

  • 1 of 5

As mentioned, this property has great potential.

The +'s:

75 yds to the beach

Quiet

Easy access .25 mi walk to access the fishing boat we'd chartered.

Great view from roof.

The -'s

House is isolated from Los Barriles requiring a car to access town, approximately 4 miles.

Because there are no restaurants aside from the resort approximately .25 miles away, you must buy food and stock the fridge. We did so but the refridgerator failed to keep food cold and the freezer did not make ice despite setting the thermostat to the coldest setting. That said, we had to regularly make trips to the store to buy ice to keep food cold and have ice to make drinks.

The listing stated that a clothes washer/dryer was available however, the washer did not work. Clothes were thus washed by hand in the kitchen sink. The dryer did work. Nonetheless, we all came with carry-ons with minimal clothing as we anticipated having the ability to was clothes.

No locks on the common area so valuables had to be locked in rooms while gone.

Bed sheets were ripped on one of the beds.

Landlord left a typed policy stating if we used too much electricity, it would be deducted from our deposit. This policy was not brought to our attention prior to signing agreement. In addition, I received a text stating that he'd entered the facility while we were gone and he'd turned off the AC because it was taking $$$ out of his pocket. When we inquired about Quad rental at the resort next door, we were informed that we were not entitled to the advertised 15% discount as the landlord had not renewed his membership fees.

Conclusion:

The property was beautiful and close to the beach and access to fishing vessels. Nonetheless, coming from the U.S. we expected to be able to lock the place up COMPLETELY when we left as we would at home. I can speak for our party when I say that having to run to the store to get ice repeatedly to make margaritas and have cold drinks was not cool, nor was having to wash clothes in the sink. Too not inform guests that they would be charged extra for electricity was not cool either. Whether you've been exploring the town or out on a fishing boat all day in 90+ degree weather, it is nice to step into an air conditioned room upon your return. It is my belief that the owner did not want to spend $$$ on a new fridge and washer because he is trying to sell the property as evidenced by the FOR SALE sign in front.

Owner's Response: YOU MUST READ THIS!!. I'm shocked: Guest unit was never advertised with a washer dryer. Being a nice guy I let them use mine, it does work. I let them use my Quad at no charge as the partners took the car and left them. Normally I charge $85/day. They had keys to the front door and kept it locked, the courtyard is very secure. They left all 3 AC's on while they went fishing after I asked them nicely to turn them off when not in use. I never charge anyone $10 just ask that don't waste electricity. Fridge does take 8 hours to make Ice.They left beer cans and cigarette butts all over the yard. Sheets are brand new, the second set they took out of the hutch may have had a hole. Gave them my ice chests as they forget theirs. Provided them discounts on a charter boat. The one guy and other couple were very nice and extremely appreciable, but the guy that wrote this review who rented the place was a piece of work. Before I gave them a quad for free they took my old membership to the hotel without my knowledge and tried to get the 15% discount. Can't believe he did that or a least ask first. The rental shop in town is the one I get 15% off for my guests. I also gave them my fishing rods to use. I just can't believe someone would be so ungrateful. Even the charter boat proprietor told me he was very unpleasant. After 8 years on VRBO I guess I was due for a looney.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful view from the roof top and what a great location. Easy to find, access to the beach is right in front of you and the unit downstairs was perfect if all you needed was a place to sleep and shower.

SPECTACULAR!

  • 4 of 5

This was a great experience! The house suited our needs very well and the location was spectacular as it was about 200 steps to the water! The view was pure heaven from the roof as well as from the master bedroom, kitchen and dining room. The owner Jeff was always available to answer any questions that we had as was Jose one of his assistants who was always very helpful and kind. I cant say enough about his other assistant Anna who found us (as we got lost) and escorted us to the house. The area is very quiet, but that is exactly what we were looking for so that made us happy. You definitely need a car or an ATV to get around as the town is about 4 miles away but luckily Jeff had both of those available for us to rent as well! We were able to use the facilities at Buena Vista Resort and that was an excellent treat on days where it was too windy on the beach. There was a bit too much wind for our liking some days but I guess that's why they call it the best place for kiteboarders who were excellent to watch on those windy days too. If you don't like stairs then renting the bottom 2 bedroom suite is for you as there are 22 stairs to the master bedroom, living room, and kitchen on the upper part of the house but otherwise the house was wonderful overall!

Thanks for everything Jeff!

Perfect for our family!!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was perfect for us during our stay at Jeff's house. We rented the guest unit downstairs so we didn't see the rest of the house - but I'm sure it is great. The beds were comfy - we slept great. Loved the outdoor shower - awesome water pressure! Great AC units in both bedrooms and kitchen - very necessary to sleep. There was snorkeling gear and boogie boards there to use. The house is one house away from the beach, which is perfect for swimming with small kids. The best part for us was the access to the Buena Vista Resort which is a 5 minute walk down the beach. The pool there is amazing - swim up bar where you can order food as well, hot tub, great service. Rocco the dog was a highlight too. He is SO sweet and our daughter loved him! Jeff was super accommodating - there were two huge bottles of water in the fridge for us when we arrived and he met us with a smile and an offer of anything we needed! The only drawback if I had to pick one is that the kitchen wasn't very well equipped - not really enough silverware/dishes for more than two or three people. We didn't need it as we had friends staying nearby and we either ate out or ate at their place every night. But for people who really want to cook in the kitchen, it could pose an issue. But other than that, everything was perfect! We will be back! Thanks Jeff!

Perfect for families

  • 5 of 5

We rented the entire house for 10 nights and the layout of Jeff's place was ideal for our family! My husband & I stayed in one of the downstairs bedrooms, our 4-year-old son took the 2nd bedroom downstairs and my parents were very comfortable in the master suite on the 2nd floor. The suite on the lower floor includes it own small kitchen & bathroom which was allowed us our own space when we needed it. The living room, dining room & kitchen area on the second floor has lovely views of the sea, and opening all the windows allowed the ocean breeze to flow through the living space which was great. The kitchen had all the basic essentials we needed including 2 blenders that came in handy for afternoon pina coldas & margaritas! We had Norma Romero & her family prepare meals for us several times and the food was awesome :)

The roof top patio has unobstructed 360 degree views and we spent a lot of our evenings up there enjoying the sunsets & the sound of the waves. There is AC available throughout the house but we only found we needed it on a couple of nights.

Jeff had a beach umbrella at the house which came in handy, and a boogie board available which our son (and my husband!) loved using. I know he usually has an ATV for rent as well but it wasn't avaible during our stay. If you do have the chance to use the ATV though I would recommend it as the beach goes for miles and can easily be explored with the right vehicle. The area the house is in is called Buena Vista and all the locals & visitors we met were really friendly and we always felt safe, day or night. As other guests have metioned the hotel a 5 min walk down the beach has a nice restaurant & an awesome pool area with swim up pool bar that you can use. Apparently they charge $10 USD a day to access the pool facilities, but we had some friends who were staying at the hotel and they didn't charge us the day rate. The town of Los Barriles is a quick 10 min drive away and has a number of great little restaurants & shops to check out. If you are looking for gifts, art or souveniers we found that the store El Toro y La Luna which is on the hwy just past the entrance to Los Barriles on the left side of the road was amazing with some really unique finds. Chapitos was great for groceries but Tienda Popular seemed to be where the locals go and the prices were a bit cheaper. You can get your gallon water bottles refilled at the water depot just up the road from Tienda Popluar for around $1.50 USD.
