This magnificent villa is situated between Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi and ten minutes from the ancient walled city of Lucca. This elegant property is ideally located to explore and experience the world famous beauty and artistic attractions of Tuscany. The villa is surrounded by marvelous and perfectly manicured lawns and flower gardens, which offer shady areas and aromas to stimulate your senses with perfumes of lavender and rosemary. The grounds feature a private swimming pool (open mid May - mid September) with fabulous views of the surrounding woods and landscapes. Guests at Villa Gemma will appreciate the spacious and well-equipped front terrace - perfect for al fresco dinners or moments of absolute relaxation. Wooden table and chairs are available. Furnished and decorated in impeccable Italian style, the mansion is looked after by a full-time maid and a cook who will take care guests meals. Light and spacious, this 19th century, traditional Tuscan property offers an elegant Italian retreat with all the comforts of home.
Ground Floor: The main door opens on to an elegant drawing room with Satellite TV; there is a double sitting room on the right with a large fireplace. On the left is a cozy and elegant dining room and a large, fully equipped kitchen (please note, guests are allowed to use the kitchen only for snacks and drinks; the cook will prepare all meals). From the hall beyond the drawing room, stairs (20 steps) ascend to the first floor. There is a handy service bathroom beneath the stairs.
First Floor: To the right at the top of the stairs, the master bedroom with queen-sized bed, and a smaller, but very nice, bedroom with a French sized bed. These bedrooms share a large bathroom with tub. And to the left, a nice and bright bedroom with twin beds (that can be joined) and a double bedroom with queen-sized bed (sharing a marble bathroom with tub). Stairs (20 steps) to the second floor.
Top Floor: To the left the maid quarter. To the right one nice double bedroom with new bathroom with shower (this room only available upon request). One extra room with bathroom with shower (this room is now used by the cook). A very nice and polite couple lives on the top floor of the property.
Included in the rental price: Final cleaning, maid service (3 hours/day, 6 days/week), cook service (breakfast, lunch and dinner - food and beverages are additional*)
Available upon request at additional cost: Extra maid service, laundry/ironing, babysitting, extra change of linens/towels
* There is a food deposit of 500 Euro upon arrival
Children restrictions: No more than four children under the age of one or over the age of 12 are admitted. Children between ages 1-12 are not allowed. A copy of family insurance is required showing coverage of any cost in case of damage to the property.
With Florence just over an hours drive away, a day-trip to Italys capital of art is a must for any guest of Villa Gemma. See Michelangelos David in the academia art gallery, enjoy a visit to the world famous Uffizi Museum, and stroll through the Piazza Signoria with its impressive medieval buildings.
For food lovers, local farms selling some of Tuscanys best olive oil are on your doorstep, and there are open air markets in one village or another almost every day of the week. A visit to one of the famous vineyards in the vicinity (such as Tenuta di Ghizzano and Tenuta di Valgiano) gives a unique opportunity to view the wine making process from beginning to end and purchase a few bottles for the evening dinner! The weekly local market in Lucca is every Wednesday and Saturday morning, and the antique market is every third Sunday of the month.
For the more active, there is excellent walking in the hills around your villa. Horse-back riding and mountain biking can also be organized, and several 18 hole golf courses are within a 30/40 minute drive. And last but not least, there is the shopping! The outlet stores near Incisa and Arezzo provide endless retail therapy opportunities, and then there are the leather goods and handmade paper that Florence is so famous for and the wonderful olive oil that is produced throughout the region.
