This is a beautiful and cozy unit...the perfect choice for a romantic getaway! This is a nonsmoking, studio condominium with 1 bathroom and a 4 star rating. It has a full kitchen featuring granite countertops, a microwave, pellet stove insert, 37-inch high definition LED flat screen TV, Blu-Ray DVD player, stereo with radio, CD player plus ipod dock and a phone. Wireless internet connectivity is provided, but cannot be guaranteed in the event of a network failure. It also has a partial view of the Sherwin Mountains and features wood flooring. The living room has a queen fold-out couch and a queen size bed. It also has an upgraded bathroom with modern vanity and hardware. There are 11 stairs to reach this unit and it is all one level inside. This unit sleeps up to 4 people. Walking to the Village Gondola from this unit is considered 2 1/2 blocks including a steep driveway to reach Lake Mary Road.
It’s an interesting place. if they correct the easily fixed problems, we'll prolly come back. We enjoyed the location, though we were there during a large snow downfall; without chains or great 4x4, you would not probably don’t want this place during a snow storm; the steep driveway is treacherous when there is ice under snow.
While the unit’s style is dated, and a little vintage, we survived it. Except for the dysfunctional Wi-Fi, the pictures and description of this place are quite accurate. One subtle incongruity: the floor is cheap cold laminate, and not the rich hardwoods which pictures suggest. The owners urgently need to get their own Cable or Wi-Fi internet contract and actually supply internet in the unit. As it is now, the Wi-Fi they tell you to use is from some distant and chronically malfunctioning Wi-Fi router. As a Wi-Fi engineer myself, I’m certain this is not just a matter of range, and is not the ISP letting us down. As things are now, they should not even advertise that this unit has any internet.
The roll-up blinds that cover all the windows are in disgusting condition and mechanical disrepair. They must be replaced ASAP. The fridge is also pretty beat-up with some bent parts, and missing shelves.
My wife and I have rented-out our own beach-house out for many years, and so are quite familiar with the what it means to be a VRBO. This place is not “by owner” The Mammoth Reservation Bureau(MRB) is managing this property, which makes it a little less convenient than the average VRBO, since you have to stop in and pick up and return keys..but as others have noted in yelp reviews of “MRB” this is how it has been done in Mammoth for decades. Fortunately, times are changing.
We will probably stay here again. We’ll just remember to bring a few more things like good knives, a few better skillets and pots, and maybe a toaster oven.
We really like the pellet stove; quite lovely and friendly.
If this were our place we would:
1. In-unit Internet, for wired+wireless internet
2. Update the décor to more modern and less nick-nacky
3. Replace rugs
4. Replace roll-up blinds with nice thick dark curtains and sheers.
5. Better knives
6. Replace door lock with a internet connected lock for remotely managed access codes , eliminating MRB annoying office-hour + lines, key pick-up drop off would be required.
