Delightful, contemporary property

This property has a bit of everything you need with great, contemporary style, well-maintained grounds and plenty of room to relax and play games. When I had questions about where to find certain kitchen items, I found the owners to be very responsive and helpful. Everything in the house was clean, in great working order, and up-to-date. Major bonus points were the immaculate clay-like tennis court, private boat landing, and outdoor grill. All in all, a great stay!

Gorgeousproperty, Amazing owners, Recommended!

We had the opportunity to stay in this lovely, bright home a few weekends ago and immensely enjoyed the beautiful property and gorgeous house. It was very child friendly, modern, and the location was ideal. All of the bedrooms are tastefully decorated with luxurious bedding. The kitchen is amazing! We also used the outdoor grill, tennis court, and my girls had a great time on the swing set and in the bounce house. The owners were quick to respond to our questions and left us detailed instructions along with a list of their favorite restaurants and local sights. Highly recommend!

Renter Beware!! House is not worth the headache

I would like to start by saying I never write reviews, but this stay and this owner deserved a write up, and all future renters deserve a warning in advance.

Lets start with the exaggerated description. Pictures and a description are all you have to go by as a renter if there are no reviews. Such was the case here.

"2 fireplaces" - While there are technically 2 fireplaces, you can only use one, and it doesn't come with any fireplace tools, which you will only realize after lighting a fire and searching in a panic.

"State of the art appliances". This house doesn't even come with a modern way to play music. No bluetooth speaker or stereo system. The TV is dated, the kitchen appliances are aging, and the bathrooms are worn.

"Modern furnishings" - Considering we had to put down a large deposit and are encouraged to purchase an additional enormous insurance plan, one would think that the house would be full of nice things. Instead you are in for a few small couches and chairs.

"A true chefs kitchen" - This might be the biggest "Alternative Fact" in the entire description. While it is a big kitchen, a chefs kitchen usually comes equipped with cooking utensils. While it did have a few pans, they were warped, broken, and barely usable.

The MOST frustrating part of the entire experience has been the communication. The owners style is that of an accusatory bully. While I'm sure I came off as upset when we learned about what I felt was a "bait and switch", there was no reason for the rude tone and inability to empathize with their customer/renter.

Here are some examples...

When asked about the pool and grill not being functional, which we learned the day before check in, he went on the attack. I quote "[you] should have the brains/common sense to ask questions during the booking process". After I pushed harder, he did get the grill working, but the tone was already set.

After I informed the owner that I was going to leave a review that reflected my experience, this was his response, "Directly and/or implicitly threatening us is not only unethical but our RE attorney (after we forwarded him all the exchanges) has just told us what you did may be a clear violation of one of Homeaway's policies. As my wife (also an attorney) mentioned, we are prepared to logically and factually respond ASAP in multiple ways if you open that door"

Bottom line, rent another house.

Ps - They charge you (a lot) for utilities and gas.

Owner's Response: Robert is the type of tenant no landlord wants to have. He is deceitful and unreasonable, abrasive and disrespectful. Initially, Robert signed our standard agreement, accepting the responsibility to care for our home, pay the utilities that were clearly laid out up front, and follow our simple guidelines (house rules/instructions). When Robert found out that parts of our outdoor area were not yet useable (it was still winter with below freezing temperatures), he made unreasonable demands to get the grill cleaned and ready, which we did – and it was not because we were required to, but out of good faith in an attempt to accommodate Robert. Even after telephone conversations and accommodations, Robert was rude and relentless. Not only do we believe he damaged our stone fireplace, he also tried to get out of paying the utilities even after we took the time to clearly explain the charges, showing proof and detailed emails with amounts and dates. Furthermore, Robert attempted to indirectly extort us to lower his utility charges, by threatening to leave a bad review. Additionally, Robert also violated an extremely important part of our standard rental contract (that he signed and we countersigned) in which he did not follow the rules on maintaining proper insurance during his lease term. During the last 7 years, we have extensively rented our beautiful property (often times over 100 nights per year) to all sorts of renters: families, groups, corporations, celebrities and to television studios. We have also hosted special events including weddings, reunions, and taped TV shows. Many of our renters are repeat renters that have enjoyed the property for many years. We have dozens of references that can speak to the quality of our property and how we as landlords, conduct a professional process. Of the over 500 nights that we have rented our property over the last 7 years, Robert was one of the worst tenants we have ever had. Therefore we believe it’s our moral obligation to strongly caution other landlords on the HomeAway platform, and especially our neighbors in East Hampton, from renting their homes to Robert in the future. Overall, Robert is an extremely neglectful and vindictive person, and clearly not accustomed to renting or caring for high end properties.
