Welcome to The Summit at Blue Ridge, our mountain home! The house looks like a log church nestled in the mountains. It sits on 26 acres of mountain valleys and trails, so there are no close neighbors around! We hope you will feel the love and find rest during the days that you are here. You will hear the night sounds of the Blue Ridge Mountains….you will feel the seclusion from the hustle and bustle of city life….you will see the stars as though you were on the front porch of heaven…you will see treasures along the trails that God has placed in the secret spots in the woods…you might even see some wild turkeys along the path, or a glimpse of a beautiful deer.
The home has three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The bathroom in the downstairs has a Jacuzzi tub. There are two stone gas fireplaces, one upstairs in the great room, and one downstairs. The washer-dryer are downstairs for your use. Our house will sleep several people.
There are two queen size beds in the upstairs bedrooms, one double bed in the downstairs bedroom, a set of twin beds and a futon in the loft, plus the sleeper sofa that is in the downstairs great room. The fully-equipped kitchen will probably be the place where you will enjoy many moments around the large dining room table.
The favorite place to hang out is the deck. The view is breath-taking! The hot tub on the deck has an incredible view of the mountains in the day and the myriad of stars at night. We have a charcoal grill that you are welcome to use. Satellite is upstairs and downstairs for the TVs and there is a CD player with speakers for your enjoyment. If it is warm, there are fans for every room, plus ceiling fans with remote controls. We have air conditioning units in the loft, and the two main floor bedrooms, and portable a/c units in the great rooms. Also you will enjoy the fresh mountain air at night with the screens placed in the open windows! You might even hear the whippoorwill calling in the evening and early morning hours!
Bring your camera for those special glimpses of clouds on the mountains or the full rainbow after a mountain shower or just the God-given natural beauty of the surroundings. The Summit backs up to 6,000 acres of a National Wildlife Preserve. It is truly a Summit for the Soul!

My sweet husband unexpectantly passed away in June, 2015. His passing left such a big hole in my heart. We were in church ministry together for over 50 years. We have 5 grown children and 12 grandkids, who are the joy of our lives. We loved to get away to the mountains where life is more carefree and away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. I love music, art, books, playing games, hanging out with family and friends, and LIFE! The Summit was a dream come true for my husband and I enjoy keeping it for others to enjoy.
Madell Price purchased this house in 2006
We love the views from this piece of 'heaven' and feel the stress of city life roll away when we are able to go to The Summit.
The panoramic views of the mountains and the amazing star display on clear nights take you away from the daily grind. Being the only house on the mountain also gives a sense of a true getaway and retreat!
How wonderful to know that our guests have such a great time at The Summit that they want to stay there and spend quality time with their friends and family! The sunsets are amazing...a picture perfect place for artists to try to capture the beauty!
I write reviews by trying to answer the questions I would have as a potential buyer. The most obvious question; would I come to The Summit again? Absolutely! Our family thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I think it would be difficult to find a property that packs this much punch for the price.
Were there any negatives? Not much. The few that were can easily be rectified. For example, the directions. The directions that were emailed to me were perfect. The problem is most of us are so used to GPS we just plug the address in and off we go. Well, either Google Maps is wrong or the address is wrong, but either way 9455 Elk Creek Darby Rd is marked about a half mile north of the turn-off to the gravel road. I know, why isn't that explained in the directions? Not sure. For the record, the turn off is right at the county line where Buffalo Cove Rd turns into Elk Creek Darby. If you look at the satellite view on Google Maps you'll see a turn off at "Walker Gap". That's the gravel road where you need to turn.
Speaking of the gravel road, it's not that bad. But yes, it is really steep in some spots. Two in our group were in small front-wheel drive cars and they had trouble with their front wheels spinning in the ruts. But it was pouring rain, really muddy, and pitch black out. My pick-up and another small SUV had no problems. The next day when it was dry, my nephew came in a very low sports car and had no problem. I would only be concerned if it's raining when you go.
Now, the good stuff. The house really is amazing. It's not like most rentals that tend to be generic, under-furnished, bland and out-dated. This place feels warm and inviting and is very well stocked. Tons of board games and DVD's. There are plenty of blankets and towels. And the kitchen is very well stocked too. Almost everything you'll need is there including basic spices and condiments in the fridge. We made a large batch of spaghetti one night (their slow cooker came in handy for my wife's homemade sauce), but the largest pot in the house could only handle about a pound of pasta. No biggie, next time I'll bring a bigger pot from home.
Everything else was simply amazing. My kids loved the pool table and ping pong. The hot tub was amazing; you really can see more stars away from the city. The trails were a nice touch. I'm an experienced hiker and I was impressed. We even used their turkey call to call in a big gobbler. The kids loved it.
And of course the views really are impressive
We loved our stay at this mountain get away. It was a beautiful home with stunning views and plenty of space for our family. We enjoyed the hiking trails, hot tub, and the cozy home feel this cabin has to offer. We would love to come back sometime for a longer stay!
Our party consisted of three couples holding our monthly wine club get-together. The Summit mountain home was perfect for us. The views were unbelievably awesome. At night you could see a million stars, since there's not major population center nearby. We hiked the trails down the mountain and back - great trails, with a long way to go if you like. There are multiple hiking trails tied to state park nearby - you can hike miles and miles there, too.
The cabin, though, is a great place to hang out and chill. It was comfortable, and had space to spare. We played pool, ping-pong, checkers, and board games. Plenty of couches, satellite TV , and a movie collection with something for everyone. Kitchen with gas stove and oven were perfect for a food-intense weekend. Beds were comfortable, and Rennai water heater meant we never ran out of hot water. The place has about all anyone would need to enjoy themselves for a weekend or longer.
We definitely will be back.
Our large family had a wonderful time getting away and celebrating the start of a new year together! It was a lovely home and we had a fun time playing in the game area downstairs and hanging out in the hot tub. The house is very secluded and the quiet was very nice and relaxing! Thank you for a great trip!
This house is very secluded!! Way back off the road! The house is very spacious with plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable. We had a lot of fun downstairs playing pool and ping pong. The deck has great views of the mountains with plenty of spearing and space for hanging out and relaxing!! Good spot to get away for a few days!!
We had a wonderful time at your mountain house. The views are incredible. The privacy and comfort were just what we needed. It was absolutely lovely. We will be coming back!
