This quaint 1899 Victorian Carriage house, listed on the National Historic Register of Historic Places and located in the Montford Historic District, is an ideal Asheville, North Carolina vacation rental.
The house is well-designed for a family, couples who are seeking private, comfortable surroundings, or for “Girlfriend Getaways” where you can reunite with long-time friends. Among the flower beds and garden patio is a picnic area, where late afternoon gatherings are often the main attraction.
The house consists of three bedrooms, two full baths, a living room, dining room, and galley kitchen. Amenities include two queen beds, one full bed, telephone, expanded cable, Plasma Flat Panel TV, and wireless Internet. Children of all ages welcome.
My two sisters and I spent four days in the Carriage House for a long girls weekend. I made the reservations four months in advance and communicated with the staff on a few occasions prior to our arrival. Each time I emailed or called I was dealt with in a professional and kind manner. The accommodations were comfortable & perfect for our stay and the location is close to the restaurants and shops. The weather was off and on rain so we drove instead of walking but walking would have been fine. The house is small and quaint. We had the privacy to have coffee in our PJ's each morning & late night talks without worrying about other guests. We only brought in snacks but could have prepared full meals & eaten at the dining table together. Each day they provided fresh fruit, croissants, yogurt, coffee bottled water & juice. Keep in mind that this home is historic, the floors creak and the stairs are narrow. That's part of the charm. We loved it and can't wait until our next visit.
NOTE: We were the next guests to stay after Patricia. We found everything to be just the opposite from her statements. As they say--some people are impossible to please.
This was the perfect house for our long weekend getaway. We had three couples fit comfortably. There was plenty of room and we had everything we needed. It's certainly a historic place, in a sweet historic spot of town. The River Arts district is super close to downtown and it is a great place if you want to go for a run or walk. There is a cute park just a block away. It's less than 2 miles from everything Downtown. Uber rides are cheap and great from the house as parking downtown is sparse. The kitchen area was a bit small, but worked well for us as we wanted to eat out at the local places anyway! Check in/out was quick and this place truly is a great deal! Don't let that first review fool you- this place is great. The retaining wall is a rather large drop, but I don't see why you would have your kids around that side of the house anyway. The patio and backyard on the other side are nice and quaint. The steps inside are fine, maybe a little steep, but this is a 100 year old house! We appreciated its history, and would certainly stay here again.
This is a perfect place to stay for a girls getaway weekend or a bachelorette! The house is super cute and in a great place for being able to take morning walks around a gorgeous neighborhood. It is also very close to downtown Asheville and extremely reasonable for the price! The only improvement I would suggest is to turn the heat down slightly because the upstairs was a little stuffy at night. Otherwise I would highly recommend this house! We had a great time staying here.
I was very disappointed that I was not told about the steps in the carriage house. We had 2toddlers and I asked if this rental was child friendly and I was told yes and it is not. There is a very steep set of steps from the first to second floor where there are 2bedrooms and a bath. My husband also had a very hard time with the very long, steep steps. There is also a steep embankment off of the front porch area which we could not take the children out there. There were used coffee grounds in the coffee pot upon our arrival. The woman who works there is very kind, nice and helpful but the man who opens the door and has the keys need inserviced on guest relations. Other than the coffee grounds it was fairly clean. Stay away if you have small children or adults who have difficulty with stairs.
We are located in the Montford Historic District which is only 8/10 of a mile from the downtown area of Asheville.
