We Love Block Island!! Block Island is the jewel of the north. The beaches are great, the water is crystal clear, the restaurants are fabulous and the sunsets are spectacular. Block Island is a great place to take your family and create wonderful memories year after year. Come see us, you will be glad you did!
The Jane Marie Cottage is one of the most comfortably appointed, clean and conveniently located larger homes on Block Island. No need to taxi the kids around when you rent our place. We have air conditiioning and a two cook kitchen perfect for the gourmet chefs of the family looking to entertain a large group.
For our wedding weekend, my wife and I were looking for a way to have our entire family and wedding party in one area. The Jane Marie House and Inn at Block Island were perfect. We put our immediate families in the Jane Marie House (15 people 1 baby). There was a private master suite for my wife and I with its own bathroom and beautiful views. Most of the other couples had their own rooms, only a few people had to share. Plenty of space, plenty of bathrooms. The best part was, we had the entire wedding party stay right next door at the Inn at Block Island which is owned by the same people. SO CONVENIENT. The location is great. Very walkable to town and restaurants. Accommodations were better than we could have every hoped for, and Karen, the owner, was so great at communicating weather, and any potential issues before they arose. We are WITHOUT A DOUBT coming back to the Jane Marie House. Thoroughly impressed with everything this beautiful house had to offer.
We were 13, including a nursing baby, a toddler, and three small children between the ages of 4 and 6. And 8 adults. Layout was great. The downstairs we used for quiet time for the kids and the nice big comfy chair was ideal for my sister-in-law to nurse. Two dishwashers and refrigerators were a must for our family, as we've learned from prior rental experiences. The pond out back was a huge hit! We did plenty of rolling down the hill and took advantage of nearby open spaces to (attempt to) fly a kite. We don't need to say more about Block Island itself. It was breathtaking. We were nervous about grocery options, but were pleasantly surprised to find a well-stocked grocery a couple minutes walk away. Seriously, this grocery was perfect. When we realized the chicken breasts got left behind in PA, it was no problem to grab some at a reasonable cost. But then all your staples and then some were right there. I only elaborate on this grocery thing because I was having a hard time trying to find out the types of stores that were there. And to be so close! A quick errand on foot to pick up extra yogurt, jarred jalapeño peppers, and ice cream was no big deal.
We loved the simplicity of the home, but most of all how it seemed to be organized for our family. The pictures don't really show this, but the main floor master has its door right off the dining room, with another door onto a small porch close by. Was perfect for me and my husband. Closet space is a challenge in a couple of the rooms, but we got over it after sinking into the splendor that is BI. The one tub in the house was happily offered to the grandkids as the grandpa and grandma had the upstairs master.
Now for my one and only major concern. We are a family who gathers together once a year and my husband and I are the gourmet cooks of the bunch. We don't eat out pretty much at all while we're on these vacations and a grill is central to our vacation cooking. While the grill was technically operating, there were some issues with failing burners that prevented us from completing some of our meals on the grill. Now, it was perfectly fine for grilling up some burgers, dogs, or even skewers of chicken...but we were disappointed to not be able grill our lobsters (picked up off-season out back of Finn's, these were big, feisty buggers). My only true piece of feedback would be to replace the grill and try to relocate it.
One criticism, but a necessity when we vacation! We would love to come back, though!
We have rented the Jean Marie for the past 2 years in a row for a Girls weekend! This house is big, clean and in a perfect location! You can walk to town, walk to the grocery store and even to a few restaurants! The house is very roomy and set up in a way that no one feels as though they are on top of each other for a large group!
We look forward to our 3rd annual trip to the Jean Marie in '12!
This is the second year we have rented this house and it was just as amazing as the first time! Perfect for a girls weekend away. This house is equipped with everything you will need from a huge kitchen to cook, plenty of bedrooms and decks from every angle. Oh and don't forget about that outdoor shower!
Location is perfect as you can walk to everything including the ferry to greet your friends but off the main strip enough for a little more privacy. We are already planning next year!
Our stay at this Block Island house was like walking into my own home. Absoluetly everything that we needed and more was provided. The house is spacious, tastefully decorated in a New Enlgand island style with all the ammenities. The large kitchen was a chef's dream as we were able to cook a large meal with ease and comfort. The location is close to town yet quiet and peaceful. We even saw deer in the back yard! The owners were extremely accommodating. We would definitely book again!
I stayed at the Jane Marie Cottage for a long weekend. It was a wonderful place to stay and "get away" to relax. Very clean, comfortable, cozy and easily accessible to anywhere on the island. I would love the time to go back and there I would stay!
