Quiet and quaint Buonconvento is worth a stop for a look at its tiny Museo d\'Arte Sacra, a two-room picture gallery with more than its fair share of works by Tuscan artists such as Duccio and Andrea di Bartolo. The highlight is a triptych with the Madonna and Saints Bernardino and Catherine by Sano di Pietro. Another must-see is Tuscany\'s most-visited abbey, Monte Oliveto Maggiore, which sits in an oasis of olive and cypress trees amid the harsh landscape of Le Crete. It was founded in 1313 by Giovanni Tolomei, a rich Sienese lawyer who, after miraculously regaining his lost sight, changed his name to Bernardo in homage to the Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, who is sometimes credited with the creation of medieval monasticism.\r\n\r\n
