I love the fact that we were in a culturally diverse and interesting neighborhood. There was just a great energy and we were afforded an easy Metro ride to all the sites we needed to get to. Uber was also a backup for when we needed another option. Elizabeth was terrific.
This property is a great little clean, quiet studio that is located a short walk from dining/shopping and the Columbia Heights subway stop. We enjoyed a great dinner at The Heights. The kitchen was stocked with the basics in addition to a bottle of wine and sparkling water/sodas. Nice touch. The bed is very comfortable. We had a minor issue with slow draining plumbing that occurred on a Sunday morning on a holiday weekend. Expecting the worse, we were surprised when our text was answered within ten minutes and the problem was fixed within an hour! Impressive customer service!
I will try to be as comprehensive as possible since I know much is based on reviews of other travelers.... As the title states, this is in a great location. It's about a 5-7 minute walk from the M and closer if you'd like to take the bus. We walked all the way to the White House the first day, however this was quite a jaunt on foot. At no point did I feel unsafe about the area where this apartment is located. There are many stores and restaurants in the immediate area which was also a bonus.
The room: decent size compared to a hotel room. Probably about the same as far as square footage goes. The refrigerator was very noisy however it functioned fine. The bed was very hard just as a warning! Of course this is subjective--I use a 30-35 sleep number and my husband uses about a 55 and even he thought the bed was quite hard.
The person above us was either running a bowling alley or a tap dancing studio. Don't know if it's another VRBO above or an actual renter. I still gave 4 stars as it's not really the owners fault that the people above are noisy but be forewarned. And this was WITH earplugs at night.
Everything was clean albeit old. But all the buildings around DC are old and I like the style (another subjective thought!) As far as actual layout, it's cute. The owner did well with the small space to work within.
We so enjoyed our stay here. The apartment was exactly what we wanted. It was cute, clean and a great location. I would highly recommend this lovely place for your DC visit.
We were looking for a convenient and reasonably priced place to stay while spending the weekend in DC. This absolutely hit the spot. Everything is as described. I agree with other reviews that the Wi-Fi was an issue but it looks like the manager has since updated the modem. As mentioned in another review, it would have been nice if there was a clothes rack or the ability to hang things in the closet. Laundry facilities came in handy and there were no issues there. A few great places nearby are Room 11 for cocktails and Bad Saint for Filipino food. I'd definitely stay here again and would recommend to others!
We spent three nights in this well-located and surprisingly sunny rental that is, somehow, larger than it looks in the photos while at the same time being pretty small. The kitchen is basic and we didn't actually cook in it, but it seemed to completely stocked, including an electric tea kettle --yay! (We added a small french press to the kitchen equipment so, future visitors who want a single cup of coffee, thank us.) The bed is comfortable and there is adequate lighting for reading and writing postcards. Hot water was plentiful and the tub was pretty darned fine. The decor was pleasantly eclectic and there was a surprising amount of storage.
What is missing: hangers, a place to hang anything, hooks, a closet, a strong internet connection. (Internet was weak, at best, throughout our visit though it definitely varied by time of day.)
The street is quiet and the whole neighborhood feels pretty safe. In addition to being a 5 - 10 minute walk from the subway station with connections to all the excitement of the district, the apartment is close to a street of fabulous restaurants and to a second street of shopping opportunities. The Coupe a block away offers decent baked goods and coffee to go as well as sit-down meal service--and, if internet is essential to you, the Coupe also offers wi-fi and comfy couches and armchairs. Giant Food isn't the highest-end grocery you'll ever experience, but it has pretty much every basic supply you're likely to want--and what you can't find there, you'll likely locate at the nearby Target.
Exchanges, via email, with the owner/manager were easy and pleasant. And, oh hey!, we found a couple of Pellegrino sodas, some bottled water, and a bottle of white wine awaiting us on arrival. What are you waiting for? Book it already!
As far as location - I'm pretty sure you will love it here. We are located just 3 blocks away from the Columbia Heights metro station (green and yellow lines), so getting from our apartment downtown to National Mall is really easy and takes approx. 10 minutes by metro. There are many restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance. A big shopping mall and Giant food store are just around the corner. Being close to city center and experience of living like a local is what visitors love about our property most.
