About the property

2017: Repeat tenants are already reserving August weeks for 2017, to be finalized later this month. Still available at this writing: Aug 26 to Sep 2, a perfect time to be on the Cape with summer weather conditions, and the college crowds gone.

Recent renovations- Kitchen appliances; new balcony, patio, spiral stair with view of Martha's Vineyard! Charming 2 story antique family home in historic district, steps to Surf Drive Beach. Prime walking area with access to downtown shops and restaurants, bike path, conservation areas, harbor & ferries, and on route of Falmouth Road Race. Suitable for large family, with traditional dining room seating 12, large sun room (shaded in afternoon), living room, eat-in kitchen, private patio and lawn, ocean views, and off street parking. Steep stairs, full baths are on second level. Limited rental season in August- please consult calendar.

This historic home was built in the days of sailing ships, near the historic commercial harbor (now the Old Stone Dock and Surf Drive beach). Expanded throughout the years, and updated/ renovated in 2004/2010/2015, the house was completely refurnished by new owners in 2010. One first floor suite accommodates older guests, with a half bath and 1 queen bed. Two steep staircases lead to a rambling second level with 3 full baths and several more bedrooms. Two bedrooms share a balcony with spiral stair to new patio below, most have excellent views of the ocean and Martha's Vineyard. Small 'maid's room' over laundry and kitchen also enjoys water views, to keep your guest (or staff?) happy! The first floor has a mud room/ laundry, eat-in chef's kitchen, covered porch, patio with large gas grill, large dining room with antique farm table for 12, large sun room with television, traditional front living room, and small private lawn and gardens. Surf Drive beach, with snack bar and bathrooms, is a very short walk down Shore Street (see photos and map).

A perfect location for exploring Falmouth on foot (we're on the Falmouth Road Race route) or by car, with easy access to Surf Drive, Main Street dining and shopping, Falmouth Harbor (and ferries), Shining Sea Bike Path, and Woods Hole. In addition to the Surf Drive beach and bath house just steps from our door, Falmouth offers beaches on Buzzards Bay, Vineyard Sound, and Nantucket Sound, as well as several different harbors and shopping/dining districts. Bicycling, sport fishing, marinas and yacht services, golf and tennis, museums, shopping, dining, all without leaving town! But of course the rest of Cape Cod is within a short day trip from this location, and 3 nearby ferry services provide easy access to Martha's Vineyard.

Peak season standard rental week is from Sat. 3:00 PM to Sat. 11:00 AM.

INCLUDED: Comcast TV/phone/internet, beach chairs and beach towels, fully furnished chef's kitchen, large gas grill with extra tank, patio furniture, all utilities (new gas water heater 2010), standard cleaning and yard service (Sat. 11:00 AM sharp to 3:00 PM). Off-street parking for 6 to 8 autos. Walk to Surf Drive Beach no charge.

AVAILABLE: Coordination with neighboring Inn and local caterers for functions, family reunions, and weddings (plan ahead!). Bed linens and bath towels can be provided, with extra cleaning charge. (...so many beds, so little time to run the washer!) Falmouth beach permit available to purchase at beach office or town hall for access to parking at town beaches (bring copy of lease and auto registration).

About Gerald Hiam

With family roots on Cape Cod, but no remaining family property, my wife and I purchased the home six years ago. Since that time we have enjoyed restoring and improving the house, and sharing it with our immediate and extended families. Our rental season is short (usually three or four weeks in August), and we enjoy sharing the experience of a traditional family home with our tenants.

Why Gerald Hiam chose Cape Cod

As an experienced home builder, designer, and restorer, I suggested looking at newer houses in the area... Luckily my wife spotted this beautiful antique home and ignored all practical objections!

What makes this house unique

Although we fell in love with the traditional design of the home, it's really the location and views that make for a great vacation experience.
