About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 5)

The best rental location in Guanajuato! Plus a lovely, spacious home with plenty of private space.

The first two floors feature 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, 2 living rooms/sitting rooms, and a dining room. The third floor is a small apartment, complete with small kitchen, bath, bedroom, balcony and laundry room.

Immediately upon entering our gated patio, you'll begin enjoying your stay in Guanajuato, surrounded by mature plantings, a lovely tile bench, and flowering bushes and plants in talavera pots. On the first floor, there is a well-stocked kitchen, dining room, and living room. On the second floor, you will find the comfortable master bedroom (king-sized bed), a second bedroom, as well as an additional sitting room. On the third floor, there is a small apartment which can be entered either from the inside of the house, or from the outside spiral staircase on the patio. There is a terrace on the third floor where you will enjoy seeing the rooftops and churches of the city. The views are interesting and fun, facing the Funicular and sometimes you'll swear El Pipila is waving at you!

Our home has been carefully furnished with high quality linens and beds so that your stay with us will be comfortable. We have included everything you'll need for an enjoyable stay, and we have a bi-lingual manager next door to help with any things that may arise. Our home is filled with natural light due to the large windows, and even has window seats to enjoy the fresh air. You'll enjoy some of the Mexican decorations, such as talavera tile, equipales furniture, wrought iron detail, to name a few.

Perhaps the best quality of our home is its proximity to everything downtown, all within a few minutes' walk: Jardin de La Union, Teatro Principal, Plaza Mexiamora, Estudiantinas, bars, restaurants, museums - you just can't beat our location! Enjoy all things Guanajuato from this spectacular property and we're sure you'll return again and again.

Viva Guanajuato! There's not a more vibrant and exciting city to experience the wonderful lifestyle, colorful culture, and interesting history of Mexico than in the Guanajuato capital! Bring your walking shoes and light clothing for the sunny and temperate climate. You are about to enter a world that is steeped in Mexican history, culture, and beauty. Set in the mountains of central Mexico, you'll enjoy Guanajuato's hilly terrain and cobblestone streets, and marvel at its stimulating architecture. There are very few traffic streets in Guanajuato - most homes can only be accessed on foot, and many require an exhausting climb. But our beautiful home is located in the historic center, only a few steps from one of the most interesting plazas - Plaza Mexiamora - right in the heart of the historic downtown.

About The Owner

We love Mexico, and all things Mexican. We own a home on the Pacific coast (Todos Santos) and have loved living in Mexico (11 years, full-time), attempting the challenge of learning Spanish, and becoming a part of a small Mexican community.

The Owner purchased this house in 2010

Why The Owner chose Zona Centro

Having never traveled to Guanajuato, we attended a wedding of some close friends who have relocated from Todos Santos to Guanajuato and immediately became enchanted with the beauty and allure of Guanajuato. Within days, we were under her spell and simply had to find a wonderful home in this fascinating city! This home suited us immediately, because of the location and because of the floor plan's flexibility. We truly hope you'll enjoy your stay at our home and we will do whatever it takes to bring you back again!

Our property manager is bilingual, and has a new car for transportation to and from airport and bus station. We also offer a tour guide who will bring you to various locations outside of Guanajuato. You will arrange trips and costs with him independently. We have used him for years and love his services. His name and contact information is in the 2nd floor desk in the hallway.

Great home, convenient location

  • 5 of 5

This was a great home, with ample space and great design. Very convenient to walk to the center of town within 5 minutes. Very easy to walk downhill, but you will need to take it slowly walking uphill to not get winded. That hill comes with great views out the front door, and there are hills everywhere in town, so you won't be able to get away from it.

I will be renting it next summer again.

wonderful house!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in other parts of the city and this is a great location if you don't mind a short walk uphill from town center. It is easy to go down for evening events and ice cream! It is very well equipped in the kitchen, and has comfortable beds and other furniture. The manager was very helpful and a good spanish school is right next door. We had several guests and it worked well for all of us. We will come back very soon!

A month in Guanajuato

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 4 weeks at Casa Tranquila from mid January to mid February 2013. The house was recently remodeled in bright colors with interesting Mexican art accents. We found the house very comfortable, and the layout was great for accommodating guests while maintaining a sense of privacy for all. The information about the city and the museum and restaurant tips we received from the owner were very helpful. There is wireless access in the house as well as DVDs and books. The house has more light than other Mexican houses we have seen, as well as a lovely roof terrace and nice patio at the entrance.

Also, it was great to have a language school - Escuela Falcon - right next store. They offer a range of levels in Spanish classes and include outings, as well as some cooking and dance classes. Renee, the very competent house manager, teaches at the school so it was easy to stay in contact with her and she was very responsive and helpful.

The house location is definitely a plus, abut a 5 minute downhill walk to El Jardin, the center of town. It is also close to Baratillo Plaza which has a fresh flower market, a chocolate shop and world-famous gorditas, yum! There are several good restaurants and interesting shops nearby. Guanajuato is a very lively and cultured city and we enjoyed our time there, staying in this lovely house, very much.

A perfect home in Guanajuato

  • 5 of 5

Having heard about Guanajuato from friends, I decided to take a month off and find out for myself what they were always raving about. I had the good fortune to discover Casa Tranquila and rented it for the month of April. From the moment I entered the walled garden I fell in love with the place. It was a lot of house for one person, but, living in a small flat in San Francisco, I enjoyed rambling around the three floors of comfortable, well-furnished rooms. Everything I could want or need was there. My hosts had thought of everything. And if any need would have arisen, Gerardo, the helpful manager, was only a couple minutes away. The weather was perfect: clear skies, warm days and cool nights, so I spent a lot of time in the beautiful garden or on the veranda on the top floor, looking out over the city. I wanted time for peace and quiet, and Casa Tranquila really lived up to its name. But at the same time, I wanted to be close to where the action was, to experience the life of Guanajuato that I'd heard so much about. Just a 2-3 minute walk down the lane were beautiful Plaza Baratillo and lively El Jardin, always full of families out together, students from the nearby university taking a break from classes, and even strolling troubadours, (a Guanajuato tradition). The end of the month two friends came to join me and I thoroughly enjoyed sharing the house and Guanajuato with them. Casa Tranquila and Guanajuato completely charmed me and I can't wait to go back.

More House Than Meets The Eye

  • 4 of 5

Small on the outside, big on the inside, this home is in an almost perfect location for people who want to be close to the historic center and amenities (visual, cultural, gustatory) of Guanajuato, but just far enough away to feel they are in a characteristic neighborhood. The proximity to Mexiamora Plaze, a beautiful little neighborhood square whose daily life unfolds like a movie, is one of the great pluses.

The house is...a house. It can easily accommodate one large or two smaller families on three levels-- two legit bedrooms and a pair of top-floor single beds, with bathrooms on every level. Assuming that folks renting this place can share a home successfully, it has to rank as a great bargain, as the monthly rate divided amongst two or three paying parties brings the rental cost down to peanuts.

Pretty much all the amenities needed to operate a domestic life are included, and the rest can be improvised fairly easily.

While there may be Guanajuato rental homes with more Mexican character (this place is attractive but does not ooze charm), this home met all of our functional needs and, frankly, looked better and better after we scoped a lot of other 'character' homes during our stay in Guanajuato. Also, it was our experience that the house was principally a place to sleep, eat the occasional self-cooked meal, and take some down-time. Life in Guanajuato, after all, is out on the streets.
