Our second visit to Casa Mano Prieto. Wonderfully equipped and arranged...the perfect place to enjoy the Davis Mountains. The Harrisons are great hosts, warm and welcoming, who have created the perfect retreat. We will definitely be back again!

Amazing bird-watching and stargazing house

  • 5 of 5

Nestled on a plain in the middle of the Davis Mountains, this house was incredible! We enjoyed seeing a myriad of wildlife, including lots of birds, rabbits, and even a family of javalina passing by at a respectful distance. The house was clean, and nicely furnished. We hope to stay at Casa Mano Prieto on our next trip to Far West Texas!

Will definately rebook!

With five adults in our group I was a little concerned that we may trip over each other, especially with there being only one bathroom, which is really cute by the way. But the Casa was plenty big enough to accommodate us all and we managed quite well. The whole Casa was very clean and well organized. The kitchen is well stocked, I loved the stainless sink, as well as the high ceilings and all wonderful artwork throughout! We were looking for a place where we could set up our telescopes away from light pollution and this was perfect. Unfortunately, we only had one night of clear skies as our trip was right in the middle of the rainy season. However, even with the rain we enjoyed the views from all the windows at the Casa. Our views were spectacular and watching the birds and rabbits was so much fun. We are definitely going to come back, hopefully sometime in the fall or winter to do this again. Tex and Tom are very conscientious hosts. They anticipated our every need. We enjoyed the tour of Tom's observatory and his knowledge of astronomy and astrophotography. As for the location, it was easy and convenient for our coming and going to all the area attractions.

Wonderful property

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here twice now, and the first time was in December 2010. Our first visit was with our 3 kids, and this time it was just my husband and me. We love this property and it's our first choice when in the Fort Davis/Alpine area. The home is spotless and has everything you could need. We cooked many meals in on both visits and never had that moment of reaching for something that was not there as can happen in VRBO properties. It is a nice quiet retreat. Yes, the owners are right next door. But honestly, I don't even think I knew that the first time we stayed there. The homes share a yard, but there is a little privacy fence/landscaping that blocks the view of their home. There are no windows on the casa that face their home. Truly, we never knew they were there or not, so don't let that keep you from reserving this great house! It is just so peaceful....everything we wanted on our get-away. And Tex and Tom are so kind if you do need to interact with them.

I want to mention one thing that may be something that summer travelers want to know. The home is cooled by an evaporative cooler. It's an odd thing, and not like a normal a/c. You can even have the windows open while it's running! The downside is that you can't get the house really "cold" if that is your thing. The temps were quite high (90s) when we were there right before July 4, and we returned mid-afternoon to find it was 81 degrees in the house, and we couldn't get it much cooler than that. This was not a deal-breaker for us, but for some who like it frigid indoors when it's hot outside, it might be. There are several oscillating fans in the home and those kept us perfectly comfortable. We love the house so much, I can't even take off a star in the review for this!

Book the casa! You'll love it!
