charming getaway

The house is clean, quiet and comfortable. It is the perfect low key weekend getaway destination. It is a great value for the price and we can't wait to return.

Beautiful Sunrises and Desert/Mountain Views

  • 3 of 5

We loved the views from the house, and enjoyed the peacefulness of the setting. The house itself is old and needs a lot of renovation. The bed is comfortable and the kitchen provided all of the essentials to make our meals. The road to the house is primarily dirt which becomes mud when it rains which takes days to dry creating a mess on vehicles.

Owner's Response: We always hope everyone has a delightful stay. Our Casa was built in the late 1990's and was originally just an artist studio. The bedrooms and breakfast room were added by the second owner. Our road is a ranch road since this property was part of a much larger ranch originally. We are in the high mountain desert and usually do not get much rain. This year has been a bit different. We just call it "West Texas"!

Fantastic Home and Views!

  • 5 of 5

Everything at this property was perfect for a long relaxing weekend.

The common areas are large airy and bright. With many large windows and sliding doors to show off the beautiful scenery. We took full use of a fantastic kitchen and prepared breakfasts and a dinner. The kitchen is clean, modern and user-friendly with some gourmet appliances.

The bedrooms are smaller but cozy. We only used the queen bed, which not only has marvelous views but also opened onto their serene backyard with sculptures, flowering vines and water features. The second bedroom has one full bed and one twin bed, fyi.

The location is just perfect for all sorts of activities. Ft Davis, McDonald Observatory (a must!), Marfa, Alpine and still a good launching pad for Big Bend. I highly recommend Davis Mtns State Park's hikes and viewpoints, the 70mile driving loop around the Davis Mtns and the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center, both its botanical gardens and the Canyon hike.

This is an area of Texas that all true Texans should experience and see for themselves at some point. The views and night skies are staggering, the people and towns are quintessential Texan...only a mile up in elevation!

We are excited to return to this rental as the price is reasonable, has great views and it's simply cozy and comfortable. Thank you so much Tex and Tom! Loved every minute.

Great private location, Nice owners, spacious living area, bedrooms/kitchen/bath fair

  • 4 of 5

For the price relative to other properties, this is a good value. The owners were super nice and friendly on arrival. My wife and I stayed in the room with the queen bed. This is not an upscale rental, but the pricing does reflect that. This property is clean and well kept. It does have the basics covered and nearby Ft Davis (8 miles). The views are great.

The pros: great location, quiet, lots of windows, outdoor patios, easy communication with owners, nice cookware, nice dining table/living area, games to play. The cons: bed is squeaky so you may find yourself waking when you or your partner turn over, the house obviously grew organically and has a bit of a cobbled feel. That said, it was clean and we were not lacking in any necessities.

Unlike others I would not rate it a 5 star property. I'm not overly picky but I reserve 5 stars for more luxurious accommodations. If I could give it a 3.5 I think that's probably the right number.

If you don't mind mix and match furnishings and looking for a value option near Marfa/Ft Davis, this is a good choice.

Owner's Response: We were quite embarrassed to learn that there was a squeaky bed. As of today, we have replaced the Queen Size Bed with a brand new Euro Model. We hope others will let us know such problems during their stay. Vacation time should always be stress free!

Definitely would love to go back!!

  • 5 of 5

My young teen two kids and I stayed here in AUG 16~21 2013 to see and enjoy the Marfa, and surrounding area, loved West Texas skies...Place was spacious and artfully decorated, The kitchen was fully stocked if you wanted to cook, and the bedrooms were cute and comfortable, enjoyed watching hummingbirds outside of garden.

night were cool and beautiful, very close to Marfa/Fort Davis for day time activity and dinning out.

Definitely would love to go back!
