|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
'This place is unbelievable. The pictures don't do it justice'.....a quote from recent and thrilled guests who were so excited that they cancelled their original wedding venue and got married on the hill behind the lodge.
'I have everything I need and want right here', said another guest, an avid Sportsman who described the Lodge and surrounding area perfectly. If you love the outdoors you will love staying with us.
If you haven't visited the Dolores area you haven't visited Colorado. There's something for everyone, no matter what season.
Spring: Beginning in late April and May the trees sprout their new leaves, elk and deer are everywhere (often with their babies) and the wildflowers bloom.
Summer: A great time for a family vacation with all the activities Southwest Colorado has to offer. The hummingbirds arrive and don't leave until September 1st. There's a 'swimming hole' in the Dolores River directly below the lodge for kids and adults alike to enjoy. Bring your fishing pole too!
The new firepit is perfect for an old fashioned campfire. Bring the marshmallows!
Fall: The BEST time of year. The weather is phenomenal, the hunting and fishing are in full swing, and the mountains are breathtaking when the aspens turn brilliant yellow. One couldn't ask for more outdoor opportunities or beauty.
Winter: Skiing, snowmobiling and just a great time to read a book near a cozy fire. Winter is an adventure at the Lodge.
Bear Creek Mountain Lodge is the perfect place any time of the year...whether you have a party of four or fourteen. The lodge is a beautiful spacious family-owned newly remodeled cabin on 14 acres bordered by National Forest. It is like having your own private National Park right outside the back door. You can hike, hunt and fish without using your vehicle. Our guests have loved the fact that they can get their nature 'fix' without leaving the property.... but with plenty of National Forest Access roads to hike, ATV or even drive in your family car (4-Wheel drive is not necessary). If you want more structured excitement, Telluride is up the road and Cortez (with Mesa Verde) and Durango (with rafting, train rides and more) are just down the road.
Bear Creek Mountain Lodge is a beautiful spacious family-owned newly remodeled cabin with six + bedrooms (3 on the main level and three upstairs; 3 kings, 2 queens, 4 twins, plus a large room with bunk beds) , 2 fully stocked kitchens, 3.5 baths including one with a whirlpool tub, an extremely comfortable living room with fireplace, a sunny dining room and family room along with a large mud room with wood burning stove. All the amenities you could want are here: Wireless and DSL internet, cable TV(s), two washers and dryers, a second story deck for viewing the elk and deer, games, books and so much more.
Why the Owner Chose Dolores: This has been our family home for forty years. When mom and dad left the house to us we wanted to be able to keep it in the family for future generations. The location is second to none. This is a uniquely beautiful environment. Every time we are there we feel like 'Heidi' in the classic children's story....it is that beautiful!
The Unique Benefits of this Lodge: The lodge is so comfortable and family friendly. We love going up on the deck at night with a spotlight and seeing elk and deer close by. There are wonderful hunting opportunities right up the hill from the house. It is very secluded with only another family member's house in view, but yet it is an easy drive to Telluride, Durango, Cortez, even Moab. The summer days are warm and the nights are cool. No air conditioning needed. And the stars....millions of them!!
I have been an interior designer for my entire career and loved remodeling and decorating the Lodge. It has a modern open feeling, but yet retains the 'Northwoods' character that appeals to our guests.
Carol Bradley purchased this lodge in 1969
The Lodge has been in our family since it was built over four decades ago. We spent wonderful summers and holidays here with our extended family (six siblings with their 14 kids and now 16 grandkids). We love the open living area with the separate bedrooms for peace and quiet when desired.
The setting is the most unique thing about the Lodge. It is set on 12 of the most beautiful, aweinspiring acres in the world (in our humble opinion). Since it is above the river valley, the views of the surrounding mountains are unobstructed. Wildlife abounds with nearly daily sightings of mule deer, elk, hummingbirds and chipmunks, even a bear or mountain lion depending on the season.
It is a place for families to gather and reconnect with nature. It is also centrally located so enjoying the activities of the surrounding areas like Telluride and Durango and Mesa Verde are easily accessible.
The house was great and my two aunts who are 88 were very comfortable. The hummingbirds were the highlight and Bill fussed constantly about keeping the feeder full of food. He must have filled the bottle at least two times each
day and even made a special trip to Dolores for sugar! And my other cousins took several hundred pictures of the hummingbirds. Puzzles kept one aunt busy for many hours at a time.
Above all, we were all content, happy and just had the best of time. It was the first time for all of us to take a trip together. I loved the fishing, cool weather and the birds.
It was a great stay and I do hope that we can return. Thank you. And you have been more than gracious with all your communications with me. And from my past experiences, highly unusual but very appreciated. Again, thank you and Vincenzo couldn't have been better....even bringing me a stick for walking and just in case the bear appeared. We loved it all.
I wish you the best.
The cabin is as described, rustic with nicely comfortable mountainous decor...and truly in a remote area where you will enjoy total peace and quiet and the beauty of untouched forest.
Barb and Carol who own the property were wonderful to work with. The manual that they put out is thorough and important to read as describes the location and the cabin size for the capabilities of a large party....as well as some of the challenges!
Sleeping accommodations are comfortable and depending on the size and number occupying the cabin ... The bathrooms may be a challenge.
Both kitchens were a huge plus for a large party! Both were fully stocked to cook for large parties!
We love the large dining table both for meals and for games. We loved the fire pit out back! We loved the perfectly placed Hummingbird feeder and the constant viewing of lots of hummingbirds all day long. The lookout balconies were large and very beautiful to view out into the forest and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Parking is ample.
Telluride is within an hours drive and several fishing lakes are nearby. Durango is not too far and a good days outing for the train and teenage activities.
The people living in the small town of Dolores are friendly and inviting. Lots of outdoor activities there and good eating in restaurants and coffee houses!
All in all a very nice week with our large family reunion!
Bear Creek Mountain Lodge (BCML) was perfect for our large family of 9 (7 children, ages 9 y to 20 y). There was plenty of room to spread out for some alone time, and come together for family meals and games. Sleeps 20-21 and has plenty of kitchen and dining room space to accommodate the same. We were able to sit around one table as a family! We hiked into the local mountains behind BCML, which is about 8,100 ft above sea level, and we hiked to 9,200 ft. There was more to go, but we were winded (We live at 650 ft). The scenery was stunning. Mesa Verde, Four Corners and Telluride are within reasonable driving distance. We loved the national park of Mesa Verde and rafting in Durango, and highly recommend Bar D Chuckwagon. After a long day of sightseeing, sinking into the comfy couches, chairs, and beds of BCML was so relaxing. AT&T and Verizon cell service was sketchy at best. So it was great to be able to hook into the provided WiFi or catch a movie on Netflix. We had a blast playing in the river across the street. Property owners, Barbara and Carol, were responsive to emails and always available, although we didn't have any real problems.
We joined all of our four sons and their wives for a wonderful week at Bear Creek Mountain Lodge. What impressed us the most were the spacious open rooms on the main level. We had so much room to spread out and do different activities. The beds were comfortable and the house was set up to accommodate all of our needs. There was quite a bit of snow on the ground when we arrived, and we had a full day of snowfall during the week. The kids all skied Telluride and Durango Mountain Resort, and we shopped and ate in both towns. We also found a few good places to eat in Cortez close by. Barb talked to us several times
before and during the trip to make our stay as pleasant as possible. It was a memorable trip, and we hope to return soon!
Our large family gathered here to celebrate our parents' 63rd wedding anniversary. This was a perfect location offering plenty of activities, splendid views, varied wildlife, and lots of room for great family times.
The hosts do a super job providing for every need. We had the best vacation we have ever spent together!
I can give Bear Creek Mountain Lodge *6* stars because that is how many hunters were in our party last November for an Elk hunt. The lodge was great, just as advertised, everything looked just like the pictures. I have hunted this area for many years but this is the first time I had stayed at the lodge, it will not be the last. The owners were great to deal with and the on site caretaker could not have been better. All six members of my party agreed that the lodge was a keeper and that they would be very happy to return when hunting this area in the future. Six happy hunter = SIX stars! That is as good as it gets.
THIS WAS THE BEST FAMILY REUNION THAT OUR FAMILY HAS HAD. ALL OUR KIDS SAID THAT THEY WANTED TO COME BACK. THE CABIN WAS NICE AND COZY WITH PLENTY OF ROOM FOR OUR PARTY OF 15. THERE WAS PLENTY OF ACTIVITIES IN THE AREA WITH THE DOLORES RIVER RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET. ALL THE GRANDKIDS CAUGHT FISH ON THE FIRST TRY! BARB AND VINCENZO WERE GREAT HOSTS AND EVEN INVITED US TO A NIGHT AT THE FIRE PIT. WE WILL BE BACK!
Bear Creek area. The incredible views of the San Juan Mountains with Aspen groves, Ponderosa pines and lots of wildlife outside the door make this the perfect getaway. The lodge overlooks the Dolores River where you can fish, swim or raft at one of the many public access points. There are many logging roads nearby that make great places to ATV, and you can hike directly from the back door.
The lodge is secluded for family fun (or perfect for corporate retreats) but with easy access to Telluride's summer festivals and all the natural, historic and entertainment options Southwest Colorado and Southeast Utah has to offer.
Other Activities: cross country skiing, wildlife viewing, fishing, hunting, zip line
Ski: World class skiing at Telluride 40 miles.
