Overview

About the property

4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Bathrooms, Convertible bed(s), Sleeps 12-13

Welcome to Miss Emma's house! This house offers a taste of history with the amenities of a modern home. Miss Emma, my great, great aunt bought the house in 1888 and the house has remained in the family since that time. Originally built in the 1860's, the house has been renovated, but retains the flavor of the original home. It is furnished throughout with many family antiques. Walk three blocks from the house and you will be in the heart of downtown Saugatuck. Restaurants, art galleries, shops and the harbor are all within walking distance. Saugatuck's Oval Beach, which has been listed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the country, is a short drive from the house. Or you may also take a ride across the river on the chain ferry and walk to the beach.

Enter the front hall and step into the original front parlour. Through the pocket doors you enter the family room with a dining area that overlooks the back yard.

A wood-burning fireplace adds to the cozy atmosphere of the room which also houses the TV, DVD player and the sleeper sofa. A new kitchen adjoins the family room and is fully furnished should you want to create a gourmet meal or cook up a quick treat. A washer, dryer and 1/2 bath line the back hall. On the back porch you will find a spray hose with warm water for a quick rinse after a trip to the beach.

Three bedrooms and a full bath are on the second floor. Two bedrooms are furnished with new, Queen-size reproduction beds and family antiques. The third bedroom is furnished with a double bed and the original Art Deco furniture of the 1920's (new mattress, of course).

The attached apartment is where the last bedroom and full bath are located as well as a fold out queen sofa, living room, spacious kitchen, and its own washer and dryer.

The apartment is conveniently all on one level. It does not have a ramp, but is handicap friendly with large doorways and a step in shower with grab bars.

Also please note that Frank's Apartment though connected to Emma's House, has its own two entrances and exits, parking area, heat and air conditioning and connecting door which can be locked or unlocked on either side for privacy.

*If you are interested in just renting the main 3 bedroom side of the house, please contact me here as well. It rents for $275/night $1700/week Memorial Weekend through Labor Day Weekend & $225/night $1300/week the rest of the year.

*If you are interested in renting Frank's Apartment only, please see our listing for that property #4683749 and/or contact us. It rents for $175/night Memorial Weekend through Labor Day Weekend & $150/night the rest of the year.

A true Saugatuk gem

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not do this beautiful historical home justice. It is in pristine condition (updated and immaculate), a very short walk into town and Aron was fabulous to deal with. Plenty of towels, clean linens, the water pressure was excellent, community pantry, board games, washer & dryer, etc.... We stayed here for a girls getaway and was impressed with the amentities, all the information provided on what there is to do around town and how much room there was to fit six people comfortably to chat together in each room. This was our first visit to Saugatuk and will not be our last. This is definitely the perfect place to stay!!!!

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you found everything you needed and had plenty of room for socializing. It really is ideally situated close to town but still in a quiet area with a nice backyard to socialize in too. I hope you at least got your feet in the water at the beach, it was such a hot weekend!

Saugatuck girls weekend

  • 5 of 5

The pictures don't do this house justice. The rooms are very spacious and stocked with everything you need. Everything was clean and bright. The neighborhood was quite and very close to downtown. This was a great place for our girls weekend and I would recommend it to anyone.

Wonder historical property

  • 5 of 5

This was a great house for our girls getaway weekend. So close to shopping and restaurants that the car was never needed. The property is very clean & has everything you need in a great quite neighboorhood. The beds are very comfortable and the shower has fantastic water pressure. We could not have found a better place to stay. We will stay here again next year for our getaway.

Vacation at Emma's House

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Emma's House very much. Everything was fine and efficient. We enjoyed the antique furnishings and lovely house. Our young adult grandchildren enjoyed the house and especially the apartment. The hydrangeas were beautiful!! We loved walking and riding bikes through the neighborhood and the village. Thank you for letting us stay!

My family (8 adults, 4 kids) had a great stay at this place. The house and apartment were well-equipped with everything you could ever need - it was clear they know what they're doing.
