We live on this property in a separate house and have a small 7 acre farm. We raise llamas, donkeys, and fruit and vegetables. We also have 2 horses, 6 laying hens, 2 dogs, 4 cats, and fish in the pond. This is a lovely rural community that is close enough to town to give you the best of both worlds.
The 'cottage' is a 1400 sq. ft. home built on a small hill with garage underneath it. Access to the home can be up the front stairs, up the inside stairway on foot or electric chair climber (250 lb. limit), or drive to the back door and enter up 2 steps.
We love the mountains of Western North Carolina and the lifestyle of living on a small farm, yet being close to the town of Waynesville and the city of Asheville. We feel that we have a responsibility to care for all of our animals and the land in a respectful manner. We make everyone welcome who visits here. We want them to love it as we do. Our mailing address is Sexton 383 Heath Retreat Rd., Waynesville, NC 28786
Tony and Linda Sexton purchased this cottage in 2005
It just happened, as we wanted this property to live on, and the second house was a bonus.
We are close to many recreation areas. Motorcycle riders enjoy the location being close to some of their favorite mountain roads. Fisherman enjoy casting in our pond, and taking a short ride to fish the Pigeon River for trout fishing. Birders can enjoy looking for the many different species of birds that migrate through our area. Folks who want peace and time to relax can lay in the hammock and read or sleep. Commune with the many animals here, horses, llamas, a donkey, chickens, dogs & cats. Deer and turkey often come down from the woods. Hoot owls can be heard every night. Hikers can walk the property, or head out to the Appalachian Trail near by. Almost anything you might want to do, you can find here, or very close by.
Very clean and comfortable, much more private than you would think. Beautiful farm setting, with pond, barn, and animals. Owners friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend for couple or small family. My wife and I and our son and daughter-in-law were very comfortable.
beautiful lake, stocked well. very well kept property. Nice people to talk to.
Tender Mercy Retreat was a home away from home, with its cozy setting, comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen which even included several staple supplies for home cooked meals.
The retreat location is just a short hop to down town cafés and shopping. Asheville, Cherokee, and many more attractions are just a little further down the road and what a beautiful drive it is.
Everything was perfect, from the llamas and horses, to the ducks by the pond and eggs from the chickens, down to the little friendly dog Poppy that was just happy for us to be there as we were. The hosts were great and available when needed, even supplying us with a little snow on the day we left.
Can't beat the value and would absolutely recommend!
I have rented several homes from Vacation Rental by Owner; the Sexton's home is by far the best. Upon our arrival we were met by Linda the owner. She was most helpful getting us settled. You could not ask for a nicer reception.
The view around the home is breathe taking. We could have spent our whole vacation there at the house. The home is located within a short drive to lots of attractions. It was so nice to come back after a long day of sightseeing and relax in such beauty.
I would recommend the Sexton's home to everyone. We had the most peaceful, restful vacation thanks to the Sextons.
We just returned from a week's stay at Tender Mercy Retreat, our second visit in a year. We will return. The home is clean, well-furnished, comfortable, and roomy, with lovely views all around. We brought our dog, Finnie, back again during this visit, and he enjoyed himself immensely! We like to visit downtown Waynesville, when we are here...very dog-friendly...and we also walk the lake that circles the Lake Junaluska Methodist Retreat. Tony and Linda have done an excellent job of making their guests feel as if they really are on a retreat. They are there if you need them, but you also feel a great deal of privacy. One of our favorite treats each morning was to eat breakfast on the screened porch and watch the world come alive around us. aaaahhh...such a great place. Thank you, Linda and Tony, for carving out a little piece of heaven for travelers like us who enjoy getting away from it all and being kids again!
We have just spent 10 days of the most restorative vacation we have had in a long time. The mountain air, beautiful days, and all the available sight-seeing are absolutely amazing. The home is just like being in your own home, so comfortable and furnished with everything you could need. We so enjoyed the animals and the fishing pond. Poppy came up to visit us almost everyday and Duval the cat also visited on his terms. Linda and Tony are wonderful hosts. Even got to help socialize some feral kittens.
Llama trekking on site, fishing on site, animal husbandry on site, gathering eggs from hen house on site. Nearby favorite motorcycle riding roads. Short drive to access to Pigeon River for water play, fishing. 30 minutes to Asheville with the Biltmore House, Riding Stables, French Broad River activities, and River District Art Lofts. Many shopping opportunities at Waynesville, and Asheville including many antique dealers.
