Come and enjoy the wonders of the Big Island while staying in the comfort of our home. The Fariways is a luxurious gated community in the renowned Mauna Lani Resort on the South Kohala Coast of Hawaii. The South Kohala Coast rests in the protection of the rain shadow of the Mauna Kea Volcano which, at 13,796 feet is the highest point on the Island. As a result, the South Kohala Coast enjoys the most sunshine and the least rain on the Big Island.

The Fairways is a short 5 minute walk in one direction from the beautiful Fairmont Orchid and in the other direction from the Shops at Mauna Lani. The Orchid offers elegant dining at Brown’s Beach House, or Norio’s Steakhouse and Sushi Bar or beautiful cocktails and sunsets as the conch is blown at the Luana Lounge. At the Shops you will find a gourmet grocery store and you can browse fanciful art galleries, purchase up-to-the-minute resort wear, or relax over a wonderful meal at Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Monstera Sushi or the restaurant/lounge on the balcony at Tommy Bahamas. A beach walk of 20 minutes will take you to the Mauna Lani Resort Hotel just up the coast, where their ocean-front Canoe House restaurant delivers meals and moments you won’t forget.

A 10 minute drive south down the highway will take you to Waikaloa Resort, where the King’s Shops and Queen’s Marketplace offer additional variety for golf, restaurants and shops, while Hapuna and Mauna Kea golf courses are just a 10 minute drive north, with the acclaimed Hapuna Beach a must stop.

The Mauna Lani resort area claims 2 championship golf courses, the North and South courses at the Francis H. I’i Brown Golf Club. When staying with us you are eligible for discounted green fees on either of these immaculate tracks. The welcoming staff will ensure you are well taken care of. Additionally there are acres of walking trails throughout the resort, wandering through lush gardens and black lava expanses. One can examine the Pualo petroglyphs left almost 300 years ago by ancient Hawaiians. The Honu (Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles) are numerous here and one can see them sunning themselves on almost any beach. The Mauna Lani Resort Hotel raises baby turtles in their saltwater ponds and releases them into the wild when they reach sufficient size, with appropriate pomp and ceremony, on Turtle Independence Day every July 4th. Also there are the Kalahuipua’a Fish Ponds evidencing the sophistication of the ancient Hawaiian aquaculture. Between December and March the Islands are visited by Humpback whales as they stop to deliver and raise calves on their journey between the hemispheres, and they present a show, breaching out of the blue waters between the Big Island and Maui. The resort is just down the road from Blue Hawaii who offer helicopter tours of the Kilauea volcano and the mountains, waterfalls and highlands of the Island.

As our guest, you will have access to the Mauna Lani Private Beach Club, just a 5 minute drive south within the resort. While the beach is not private (none are in Hawaii) this access entitles you to park and enjoy the lounge chairs and the canopied beach beds, as well as the Napua restaurant/lounge located there. The beach is a protected enclave of sugar white sand, and the snorkeling is amazing. All ocean gear can be rented just beside the beach.

Our 1900 square foot 3 bedroom, 2 ½ bath townhome has been furnished with guests in mind. The gourmet kitchen features stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and endless cupboard space stocked with everything one might need and bar stools by the kitchen bar allow those not creating magic within the kitchen to bear witness and socialize. Just off the kitchen is the laundry with full size washer and dryer.

The dining table is set for six, but will expand for more. Adjacent is the living room area with a 60” flat screen TV and Bose stereo system with docking station. The lanai looks out on the immaculate landscaping of the Fairways resort and the pool and is accessible from either the living room or the master bedroom. It is furnished with dining table and loungers, next to the built-in Viking grill and wet bar.

The master bedroom has a King size bed and 40” flat screen TV. Upstairs, the 2 bedrooms have 1 King size and 1 Queen size bed and a pull-out twin bed. The master ensuite boasts a dual vanity, an oversize jet tub with separate shower and walk-in closet.

Just down from our unit is the flawless pool area, equipped with a grilling cabana and kitchen for larger gatherings. Near the pool are landscaped areas with koi and water lily pools, waterfalls and a large hot tub. Overlooking the pool is the complementary Fairways gym and workout facility.

About Carolyn

My husband and I hail from the "north": Edmonton, Alberta Canada. As such we have been frequent flyers over the past decade to various warm locales. Until 2012, our most frequent destination was Maui and then on one trip there we took a puddle jumper over to The Big Island and our fate was sealed. We loved the Kohala Coast and purchased our condominium as the best amongst those properties that we saw available for sale in the area. For the first year the property had a long term tenant, who vacated in February 2014. We spent our next visits to the Island outfitting the condo for guests and eventually it was ready in the fall of 2014.

Our picture is not the most flattering, being a wind-blown selfie at the Beach Club, but it is typical of our enjoyment of practically everything we get to do while we are there!

Lovely and Comfortable

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The home is spacious, beautifully decorated and well-maintained. It's fully stocked with everything needed to make one’s stay comfortable, from kitchen supplies to beach towels. The owner, Carolyn, was easy to communicate with and we found her attentive to the needs of her guests. (Renters just prior to our visit had caused some problems and the cleaning staff worked diligently to address them. Carolyn called us during our stay to make sure everything was in good order.) She also provided plenty of information about the Kohala coast area, the Fairways complex and the unit itself. We’ve stayed in several rentals in the Mauna Lani resort and we think this is the best of them all.

Exquisite Condo & Great Location

This condo is beautifully appointed with locally themed artworks, which add to the high level at which it is cleaned and maintained. Everything seems to be in like-new condition, and this has to be the best supplied vacation property I've seen in terms of household needs- utensils and tools for any cooking or entertaining you want to do.

The Fairways complex is beautiful, and its location is fabulous. A short drive took us to great meals & shopping ( Waimea, Waikaloa Village, Kawaihae, and Waikaloa Beach Drive) as well as beaches ( Hapuna beach, among others). We also enjoyed being able to walk from the condo to some really beautiful resorts ( Fairmont Orchid & Mauna Bay Hotel). The Beach Club was really nice- one of the better beaches we saw, and restricted access.

The condo's location is also very convenient for a longer-term stay. You don't have to go through Kona to get to the airport, and Costco is an easy drive away. The shops just a short walk away from the condo have a lot of what you might need on a daily basis. There's even a really good coffee shop (Kimmobean) for cappuccino snobs (like me).

Everything to do with booking and staying in the condo was well-managed and easy- getting there and departure were both seamless. Also, there's lots of good information about the area and activities available at the condo once you get there.

We had a wonderful stay, and can't wait to go back!

Fantastic Condo

We had a great stay at this condo. The condo was even nicer than as shown in the pictures. The property was very clean and well maintained. The owner was very helpful in providing directions to the condo and the description of the Mauna Lani Resort area. I highly recommend this property. The beach club was only about a mile drive and it was beautiful. The water was so clear and we were able to snorkel there at the beach club. We would love to stay at this condo again on our return back to the Big Island!

Perfect Vacation Home

Everything about Carolyn's home on the Big Island was perfect. The photos do not do this condo justice. The downstairs was much larger than I expected. My wife and I stayed here for 9 days with our 2 adult daughters and their spouses. My son and his family of 4 stayed in a unit nearby and we all hung out here or had in-house meals here in-between forays out across the island. We have been to Hawaii twice before and stayed in Kona. This is a much better location. You can still visit Kona for the shops and big stores like Costco; Walmart; and Home Depot - but the best beaches are in this area. Hapuna has 2 beaches and you cannot beat your own access to Mauna Lani Club Beach for private swimming, snorkeling and lunch. Cabanas included! The house includes 4 nice beach chairs, beach towels, beach coolers and umbrellas. We even found a bag of spare golf balls (don't forget to leave a few)! From here you can easily visit the shops of Mauna Lani; Waikoloa Kings and Queens centers; travel North up Kohala coast to Hawi and Kapaau; and East to Waimea for the biggest island breakfast you will ever eat (or not eat). Saddle road is now paved making it easy to visit Mauna Kea or traverse over to Hilo for the water falls. All of this traveling is made easy because you will be working out of this comfortable home. Come home, get a good night's sleep and start fresh the next day. Or just stay home and relax at the private Condo pool. It all starts right here. You will love it and it will be my first choice when I return.

Beautiful accommodation for four people

We stayed at this beautifully appointed large condo for 1 week in March 2015 and loved it! It was perfect for 2 couples, with adequate space, comfort and privacy. Gorgeous furnishings and attention to detail throughout. Great access to the pool yet far enough away that pool noise was not an issue. Nice quiet garden lanai with total privacy (other than the pretty birds). You have to drive to shops, golf and fitness centre, and to the private beach club. The beach is very nice for swimming and snorkelling. Highly recommended.

Fantastic Retreat

The Fairways condo was a fantastic retreat and so well appointed for our 2 week vacation in paradise. We have used several VRBOs in our travels and have to say this is the best rental of all! The condo is very spacious and has all the amenities that a family or two needs. The kitchen has everything you could imagine and the unit is super organized and you get a real Hawaiian feel with the décor. It was great to have access to beach toys like boogie boards, sun umbrellas (really appreciated for our day at Hapuna Beach), beach chairs, snorkel gear too. The pool is really steps away for easy access but far enough so you aren't disturbed while sitting out on the lanai. The beach we have access to is a short 4-5 minute drive or you have so many other choices in short driving distances too. It is also just a short 7 - 10 minute walk to either the Fairmont Orchid or the Shops of Mauna Lani where the grocery store is. Try out the mochi's at the grocery store - a real tasty ice cream treat. The free hula & fire demonstration at the Shops was very entertaining. The Fairways is a great jumping off location if you are going north on the Kohala Coast toward Waimea or south done to Kailua-Kona. There is lots of info provided by the owners on things to do, restaurants to visit, golf courses to play - which we took advantage of. We stayed with some family and the condo is big enough that you can have some privacy too. We will definitely stay in the condo again which I hope to be real soon! Thanks Carolyn and John for all your help organizing our vacation - it was SPECTACULAR!
