Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 5

'Villa Playa Cabuya' is a true tropical paradise near the quiet fishing village of Cabuya. This spacious Mediterranean style home with artistic touch is located 40 meters of your small 'private' sandy beach with no direct neighbors. What make this place unique is the perfect mix of high quality ingredients. We believe than being alone on a quality beach (good and easy swim), bordering a wildlife* full garden, in a well build house equipped in a area full of activities is something rare. With the house we try to provide the best welcome service and numerous options*. Last but not least, there are few quality restaurants in the area.

* see below

Visit the vibrant beach town of Montezuma with it's nightlife, bars and restaurants only 7 km from here or ride to the endless beaches of Mal Pais and Santa Teresa, famous for their world class Surf and sunset.

Things to do around Cabuya: Being the gateway to the wonderful Cabo Blanco Reserve, Cabuya offers a wealth of natural sites to discover. It's great for hiking, beach combing and bird watching. The Rio Lajas with its natural swimming holes and Jacuzzis is ideal on the hot days and for a refreshing rinse-off after sunbathing. Cabuya Island with its cemetery is another place not to be missed especially if you are looking for a good snorkel spot.

There are a couple of real good restaurants in Cabuya, best choice of them is the bakery or 'Panaderia' on the road towards the park.

Getting around: There's a road from the intersection of Cabuya that leads you directly to Mal Pais and Santa Teresa with its beautiful never ending beaches and breathtaking sunsets. The road is usually good in the dry season but can become a problem after heavy rains as there's at least one river to cross. Best to go by 4x4 vehicle or quad.

Montezuma town: Montezuma lies just 7km from the house. The road passes at the surfer's beach Playa 'Los Cedros' and the beautiful Playa 'Las Manchas'. Montezuma offers a wide range of national and international restaurants, souvenir shops, bars and tour offices where you can choose between many attractive activities such as canopy, horse back riding, boat trips and more.

There's a farmers market at 10am every saturday in the park.

Guestbook comments from the manager

THE HOUSE WAS PERFECT! JO AND MARIA WERE VERY WELCOMING AND HELPFUL DURING MY STAY. THE HOUSE IS SITUATED ON BEAUTIFUL BEACH THAT LOOKS OUT ONTO CABUYA ISLAND, WHICH YOU CAN WALK OUT TO AT LOW TIDE. THE BACKYARD IS WONDERFULLY SHADY, WITH ALMOND AND MANGO TREES AND TWO HAMMOCKS THAT ALLOW YOU TO ENJOY THE SHADE THE PEACE AND THE OCEAN AT THE SAME TIME! THE HOUSE ITSELF IS BEAUTIFULLY CONSTRUCTED WITH A SPACIOUS PORCH, A LARGE KITCHEN AND LIVING ROOM, AND A BEAUTIFUL BATHROOM OFF THE MAIN BEDROOM. IT IS LOCATED ONLY A HALF OF A MILE FROM CABUYA, A QUIET FISHING VILLAGE WHERE THE FISH ARE SO FRESH. MONTEZUMA IS ONLY 3.5 MILES AWAY WHERE THE NIGHT LIFE AND BEACHES ARE SPECTACULAR. THE ONLY BAD THING ABOUT THIS VACATION WAS THAT IT HAD TO END. OLI IS A VERY KIND AND GRACIOUS LANDLORD AND HIS HOUSE MATCHES HIM PERFECTLY.

The perfect place for a truly relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently stayed in the beach house for three weeks. This was our 5th trip to Costa Rica (a different location each time) and have seen a lot of this gorgeous country and thus, we didn't feel the urge to run out everyday and be "tourists". Cabuya is small and quiet, and away from the craziness of Montezuma. This is the perfect spot to lay back and relax. Each morning we carried the chaise loungers down to the beach under the shade of the almond trees and spent hours watching the pelicans and herons feeding feeding out on the water. Or gaze up in the trees, and we could watsh numerous other birds, squirrels, and howler monkeys crossing the property. There were a lot of female monkeys with tiny babies on their backs - what a delight! One morning there were two rays caught in the tidal pool in front of the house. When the tide comes in, swimming or just plain lolling in the warm water is heaven. Oliver purchased several "pool noodles" for the house. Just wrap one under yourself and float listlessly in the water forever.

The house is very private with an empty lot next door on one side and a seldom used, little house on the other. Beyond that, is a small hotel but even though it was high season, we rarely saw anyone. I'll bet no more than a dozen people walked by on the beach on any given day. That said, we did make some great new friends there. The beach itself, is great for long beach walks - right out to the Island if you feel so inclined. We always rent a "fully equipped" place when we travel with the hopes of cooking most of our meals ourselves. More often than not, kitchens in rentals are poorly equipped or have a half size fridge and/or stove making meals very difficult. The opposite is true for this beach house - it has everything you need and all in good condition (great pots & pans, good utensils, mixing bowls, the works). With the local fisherman just down the road (fresh tuna, snapper, barracuda, shrimp, and more), plenty of fresh fruit, other necessities around, and a great kitchen, we were finally able to prepare the majority of our own wonderful meals. Bath and beach towels were newish, big and fluffy - another thing that does not seem to be common in rentals. A very comfortable place to stay! The only drawback when we were there was that it hadn't rained in a very long time and because the road is only gravel, it could be quite dusty. However, everything else was so wonderful, we just carried on and ignored this.

Hard to Beat Villa Playa Cabuya

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently stayed a week at Villa Playa Cabuya. The location of the house is perfect for whatever you have in mind. It is a great place to relax and watch monkeys play in the trees, and it is centrally located to explore Montezuma, Santa Teresa, or Mal Pais. Several restaurants, a fish market, and a beautiful river are all within walking distance of the house. Elik and Oliver were easy to work with and are gracious hosts. Their artistic touches are present throughout the property. The house is spacious and clean, and the yard is beautiful, private, and well maintained. If you are looking for a slice of local Costa Rican life, do not pass on this property. Pura Vida!

Beautiful backyard!

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I spent a wonderful week at this property. The privacy of the beach was just what we were looking for! The lack of air condition in the house didn't matter as much as we thought it would due to the ocean breezes and rain showers which cooled off the house especially during the night... my wife actually wanted a light blanket.

Keep on the lookout for monkeys and scorpions. Monkeys are a welcome sight but scorpions not so much... just remember to shake out your clothes, in our case towels. We only saw three during our whole stay so it really wasn't anything to be concerned about just an FYI.

I would recommend renting an ATV... the "rainy" season was just beginning during our stay and an ATV and poncho allowed us to explore the area waterfalls easily and at our own pace.

Owner's Response: Hello Jonathan, thank you for your review ! :) It was nice meeting and having you both here. I am glad you liked your stay. Yeah i know the small costa ricans scorpions can look scary at the first time. But they are very harmless and only show up during rainy season in the country. I'd be glad to see you back here guys ! Pura vida ! Elik.

beautiful & private :)

  • 5 of 5

our group of friends does an annual trip to costa rica to escape winter, and this was our favourite place we've stayed in the four years we've been going! the beach nearby is beautiful (though only swimmable at high tide, but we expected this & just plan our days around it) and we spent lots of time reading and working under the trees, out on the porch, and in the hammocks. cabuya is all about fresh fish every night; we barbequed shrimp in the yard, had fresh red snapper and then made the heads & bones into broth for another night's oyster & green banana stew, and baked catfish and made ceviche other nights. fish & seafood can be bought just down the beach. elik was really warm & sweet, and was available when we had questions. we may stay here again in the future! definitely recommended.

Almost didn't go home!

  • 5 of 5

We just loved this place there was a real get away from it all feel about the house and the location. Time could really pass you by if you didn't take advantage of all things to do.

Elik was a great host and very accommodating. We had issues with a previous accommodation a luckily Elik was able to prepare the property for us early. She helped us enquire about car rental, horse riding and surf lessons. Ideally we would have liked a pool for our girls but Elik advised that we would be able to use the pool in a hotel close by. This was great although we only visited twice as we did so much and the sea at the bottom of the garden was lovely to swim in.

The property was clean and well maintained with all the utilities you would need.

We enjoyed our early evening strolls into Cabuya to eat, but always took a taxi to Montezuma as its a bit too far to walk. We ate at El Castanho a number of times the food was lovely and freshly prepared. We also ate at El Coyote (bird watching lodge). They also did wonderful food freshly prepared and great Pina Coladas. Hotel Celaje was only 5 min walk from the accommodation food was good and the setting was great (pirate theme). We missed eating at Bakery Café which was highly recommended as they serve for lunch rather than dinner, however we did take pieces of chocolate cake home with us a number of times (yum yum).

Overall I would recommend this property to people who don't mind being a way from the main hub of things. A car would make things easier but we didn't get one and still managed to do activities and get about, thanks to making friends with a local taxi driver Miguel who gave us his number.

A big thank you to Elik for making our holiday a most memorable one. Ps checked out your YouTube video..... Go Girl!

Family vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely wonderful! So many words to describe this peaceful getaway! Steps to the ocean, days of exploring. Howler monkeys, mono monkeys, iguanas, lizards, hermit crabs right outsife our door. Exploring on the rocks and our teenage children found several blow fish! We hated to leave but know we know we'll be back. Elik was wonderful and always there to help!
