About Tom Sullivan

We are family of 5 who live in the Colorado mountains and love escaping to Caye Caulker for some warmth, sun and ocean during the winter months. We have been in the lodging business since the early 1990s owning and operating the Minturn Inn in Minturn Colorado for 10 years. Now we run Minturn rentals which specializes in vacation rentals in the Vail area. We pride ourselves in providing quality lodging at affordable prices.

Tom Sullivan purchased this house in 2010

Why Tom Sullivan chose Belize

We started to visit Caye Caulker about 9 years ago and fell in love with the island, its people and the easy way of life. The fact that there are no cars and bikes are the primary mode of transport had a large appeal to us. First we bought the lot and then we took the plunge and decided to build a home. One short coming of the island for our family was that there was no pool for our kids to swim in so we added one.

What makes this house unique

Weezie's Yellow Cottage is part of Weezie's Front Hotel and Garden Cottages There are 9 full time employees. Leo and Kiki Dominguez are the managers and reside at the hotel and do an excellent job taking care of the guests and properties. They are always around if you need assistance renting a bike, making a drink, suggesting a restaurant or fishing/ snorkel guide. Roberto and Danny are the handy man jack of all trades whose primary responsibility is to care for the Cottage guests and grounds. The guest of the cottage are allowed to use the beach and pier over at the Hotel. There are also 2 paddle boards, 2 kayaks and a canoe for the guests to use free of charge. We have bikes to rent for $5 per day or $25 for a week.

Great stay at Weezie's

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Weezie's yellow cabin as a group of 3 young women. We had a fantastic time, and the accommodations were perfect. We each had our own bedroom area (2 bedrooms and the loft, which has a steep ascent and takes a little more effort to air condition but is very do-able) in addition to the nice common space. Weezie's had everything we needed. We loved having the pool to swim in after a day of snorkeling or hanging out at the dock. Speaking of which, Caye Caulker does not really have much in terms of traditional beaches, but Weezie's hotel has a nice, large dock that's perfect for relaxing and then taking a swim in the ocean. The service was also excellent from the on-site manager, who accommodated our every need. The cabin was in perfect working order. We rented bikes from the hotel, which was a great choice. We enjoyed the location as being a bit away from the more heavily trafficked part of the Caye and wonderfully relaxing. Overall, we had a great stay, and I'd recommend Weezie's to my friends. Hopefully we can return!

Highly Recommend Weezie's Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I took our 4 children with us to Caye Caulker and Weezie's was a perfect fit for our family. There are two bedrooms and a loft that has 2 single beds. Our sons slept up in the loft and while the ladder is steep to get up there, my husband and I didn't have any trouble climbing up or down it.

It was nice having a full kitchen and large open dining area/living room. We ended up buying groceries and making breakfast & lunch every day at home and eating out at a local restaurant for dinner. We were happy to see the previous guests had left some spices and olive oil and we ended up adding to that spice collection as well as leaving coffee filters, too. The kitchen also has a water dispenser and when we ran out of water, the island caretaker, Bobbi, was quick to drop off another one. The kitchen is fully stocked with bowls, pots & pans, wine glasses, drinking glasses, plates, silverware, cooking utensils, ice cube trays, etc.

The beds all have sheets and light blankets and each room has a set of bath towels to use. There were a few beach towels in the closets, but we brought our own so used ours. The home also has interior model air conditioning units that work very well to cool the home down in a hurry. The only area that didn’t have air conditioning was the loft, but our sons didn’t seem to mind that it was a little warmer up there than the rest of the house. The home also has WiFi and a TV with numerous channels.

The best thing we enjoyed about Weezie’s was the pool and deck that surrounds it. We spent many hours swimming and because we knew it had a pool before we arrived, we brought along several floaties and blow up balls. Instead of packing them we decided to leave these behind so the next guests could enjoy them as well.

Weezie’s is located south of the “downtown” area and just north of the airstrip. It is in a quiet neighborhood and the property is patrolled by security. We have been to Caye Caulker before and have never experienced any trouble but it was nice have this extra peace of mind. The security guard would come around in early evening and walk around the yard and wave to us before leaving.

I would highly recommend Weezie's Cabin, especially if you are traveling with friends or family. If just a couple, I would recommend the purple cabin also listed on this site. Tom and Bobbi were great to work with and extremely hassle free ...exactly how a vacation should be!

A REALLY great place on a great island.

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from Caye Caulker where we stayed in Tom's yellow house. The place is amazingly comfortable. More like home than almost anyplace we've rented in over 20 years of traveling. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, glassware and utensils. The frig and stove were almost new. The beds were very comfortable. The a/c worked perfectly. (Most places on the island don't have a/c). And a pool is almost unheard of on Caye Caulker.

The street is quiet and set back from the crowded part of town, yet only 4 or 5 minutes on a bike. So if you are one of those night-crawler, bar loving, rock music at 3am digging tourists, you may want to look elsewhere.

Tom was very easy to deal with. His property manager (Bobbi) lives on the island and was a HUGE help finding the best places to grocery shop and eat out. She even set up a car to meet us at the airport to drive us to the ferry, then met us at the dock and took us to the house. It really couldn't have been easier.

One last thing, if you don't need such a large home, ask about the purple house. It's great.

Highly Recommended!

The house stays true to the pictures and description. It is set back from town, but you won't even notice it if you have a bike (around $25 per week). A few people in my party weren't comfortable on the bike, so we often walked to the split at the other end of town and it was no big deal. The house is clean, and the air conditioning and pool are a dream. Two things I should mention: 1) The "loft" is reached by a very steep ladder. There were five adults in my party and only one of us was brave enough to climb. The ladder is sturdy and the loft is nice enough (it can get hot) but we didn't realize it'd be that set up, so really the place only accomodates 4 adults who don't mind sharing a bed. 2) The bugs in Caye Caulker were pretty ferocious, and all of us got multiple bites. It's just the way it is, especially inland away from the ocean breeze. Don't think you're above bug spray, DEET is the only thing that provides you relief. The only bugs in the house are the bugs you let in, none of us saw any evidence of bedbugs. The property manager was responsive to my questions and it was a nice touch that they provide filtered water. The tap water smells pretty terrible, but we brushed our teeth with it and it was fine. I would definitely book this property for a future stay.

Don't Miss This House!

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect house for a relaxing Caye Caulker vacation. The house is new so everything is in great shape. It is very well maintained with comfortable beds and furniture, nice linens, huge windows that give off lots of light and island breezes from the many trees on the beautifully landscaped property, and high ceilings that make it feel extra roomy. There are very few pools on Caye Caulker, and you really want a pool. It's the perfect way to wake up or wind down after a day at the Split, or meandering around the cute shops and restaurants in town, or out snorkeling, scuba diving or searching for manatees! The owner of this house is very friendly and easy to deal with--everyone on the island knows and loves him! And, he has a great local property manager. Both are helpful and have lots of tips for the best restaurants, bars, and snorkeling and scuba trips. Most days we enjoyed the 10 minute walk to and from town, but we also used the owner's bikes to get around and explore the island. For larger groups, you can also rent Weezie's Cabin next door--all of the same amenities, just a bit smaller. A great way for two families to be together with a bit of separation and privacy. We loved both Caye Caulker and Weezie's Cabin and will be back soon!

Belize Get Away

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Weezie's for about a week and it was wonderful. The home is very nice with tasteful decorations. The owner and property manager were helpful and accomodating; they arranged for someone to meet us at the ferry which was nice after such a long day of traveling. Additionally the locals are extremely friendly and outgoing. The house is located a short distance from "town" but it is just a short bike ride.

Having a pool at home was a huge asset, as we spent many hours just relaxing by the pool watching and listening to the many birds in the area. If you are looking for a vaction the combines relaxing with a plethera of water related activities (scuba diving, snorkling, fishing, swimming, paddle boarding, wind surfing, sailing, and more) Caye Caulker is for you.
