Rustic but run down

  • 2 of 5

Although the setting was beautiful and Doug was very gracious, the cabin was a bit run down. It had a strong musty smell that I just couldn't get rid of. Quite unfortunately, the windows had no screens so we were unable to open them to air things out, or to enjoy the beautiful mountain air. Also, there was significant water damage on the ceiling (that might have led to the musty smell) and a large tear in the seam of the sofa cushion.

I do feel like the cabin offers a lot, such as tubes for the creek, plenty of pots and pans for cooking, as well as a large selection of cleaning supplies. Unfortunately, I don't believe that that the 'leave it as you found it' moto is working. The cabin could benefit from a cleaning service doing a once over every so often.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review Mayberry Canyon Cottage. We appreciate the constructive feedback as we always strive to ensure an enjoyable experience for all our guests. We are happy to report that since your stay there have been new windows installed, that do open, to allow the fresh mountain air to flow through the cottage. Another option to enjoy fresh air at the cottage is the large screened in porch patio on the back of the cottage. Guests are more than welcome to leave the door open from the porch into the house to allow the outside air into the house. We also do have professional cleaners come in several times throughout the year. Also after each guest leaves the owner comes over to make sure everything is clean and restocked for the next guest. We don't charge our guests a cleaning fee in order to minimize the per diem cost. Thank you for acknowledging the additional amenities that we do offer that families certainly love to enjoy. We strive to make our guests' stay as relaxing and memorable as possible. Thank you for your feedback and concern to make the Mayberry Canyon Cottage experience a positive one.

Cozy Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with the family for three nights as it was only 15 minutes from Knobels. It looks a little rough on the edges at first but the interior is great. The owner was super friendly and welcoming. There were plenty of kitchen utensils/pot pans/dish clothes for use which made it very easy to cook on the electric range and microwave. We slept 5 adults and 5 small kids for a night with no problem thanks to the fold out beds and cots that were provided in addition to the bedroom. The enclosed porch is great and I actually slept on it a few nights. There was also a TV with DirecTV and dvd player for when the kids needed to wind down at night.

The best part of this property is easily the outside. A nice large fire pit (wood was provided) sits right next to the creek with logs for seating and extra chairs can be brought down from under the porch area. I brought my own kayak, but there was also a canoe and tubes for use at the property. The creek is great and had a decent fishing including smallmouth, trout, suckers, and plenty of crayfish.

This will probably be our new yearly retreat for when we want to relax and go to Knobels. Our only regret is not staying longer and enjoying the cottage more.

3rd Time Staying Here. Great as Always!

  • 5 of 5

We love this cottage! 3rd year in a row staying here. So peaceful and the kids love it. As teens they can explore further down the creek on their own with the tubes and they found a great swimming area. Love being unplugged while here. We bring movies and games and do not miss wifi at all. Day trips to Knoebels and World End State Park and just relaxing at the cottage. Can't wait to come back next year!

This review is over due. We stayed here in August 2016. It was our second time staying here. We love this cottage. So peaceful and relaxing and so pretty by the creek. It has become our annual place to go. We have another trip planned for August 2017. Can't wait!
