About Alicia Kinney

We are two software engineers in the bay area. We bought a cabin because we loved snowboarding!

We love food and cooking at home, we have large family feasts when we go up there. We usually hike, snowboard and curl up.

We have been renting this place for about 7 years now and had the luxury of renting to repeat families that come annually. Families have started moving away and things change so we are opening this cabin up this year - to see how it works out.

The cabin is very lovingly maintained by a young couple that live in the area, loved by families who have been coming for many years now, before we had the privilege of owning it. We hope to attract people who will appreciate it as much as we have.

Alicia Kinney purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Alicia Kinney chose Soda Springs

We fell in love with this cabin - it is beautiful, unique, well-kept, warm (cozy but not small) and unassuming. Of all the ones we saw, we loved this one the most. It is serene where it is, yet easy to get to. We rarely get snowed in even if the pass does shut down (we are located before Donner pass), it permits us to beat the traffic in and out of Tahoe. It takes us exactly 3 hrs to get to the cabin from San Francisco. The residents and community is tight-knit, warm and family/community oriented.

What makes this cabin unique

Play space in the loft for kids, with a TV/DVD and videos for kids and adults! Cabin is stocked with novels and old maps and guides for the outdoor lover! Close to Soda Springs snow tubing area - particularly awesome for little kids!

Great choice for us!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our 6 day mid summer stay at this house with my son and his wife and 3 toddlers. We had a wonderful time in the summer and know other families would too. In our case, we took the downstairs bedrooms and, with child safety gates in tow, the kids had the upstairs bedrooms and loft. Our children loved looking down on us from above. The agent provided child safety locks which we used to help contain our crew. We loved the setting of Serene Lakes and having a canoe to use was fantastic! A few other things we needed were a kitchen sink stopper and a dust pan. With toddlers we were always washing dishes and trying to clean up the floor. We also had some mouse and spider problems which hopefully will get corrected because we would definitely like to come back again!

Owner's Response: Hi Tom, thank you for your review. We apologize for not having a drain stopper and have added a few stoppers since your stay. Surprised to hear about the mouse and spider issue as we have an exterminator treat our property regularly, but we will absolutely address theses issues with him, right away. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed our property overall.

Excellent location, lots of room and clean; would definitely return.

  • 4 of 5

Plenty of room for our large group because both floors had 2 bedrooms, full bathroom and own living room space. Large kitchen with lots of amenities and big table. Kid friendly! Laundry and plenty of parking. Comfortable and cozy, just like a lake cabin should be. We'd definitely go back.

Super Comfy House

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for two families. The fire was on when we arrived so it was cozy and the two bedrooms with king size beds were perfect....no fighting over the big rooms and the upstairs was perfect for all the children. The place was clean and had everything we needed. It was super close to sugar bowl and Donner ski resorts. It even had sleds for the children. I would definitely consider coming back.

A good place to stay. But we had a couple of problems

  • 4 of 5

The house was as advertised. Good location and overall a good space.

We had some problems with the fireplace (propane) going out and with the bathroom door lock failing.

Overall my impression is that the local contract manager does an excellent job but that this beautiful house is suffering from lack of ownership investment

Lovely and well appointed cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We had a very comfortable stay at your family cottage. We were 2 families of 4 and found that the adults could enjoy the living room and the kids could enjoy the loft/den after dinner. The beds are firm and comfortable and we loved all the snow and room to play and build snowmen behind the house!

Thank you!
